Archer Kit cannot use Composite Long Bow?

Hi all,

I just started BGII and chose a half/elf Ranger w/Archer Kit. I am just a
few minutes into the game and found a Composite Long Bow for loot. How come
I cannot use it? The bow is red/out, it seems only Minsc can use it.

Have I made a character creation mistake?

You need an 18+ strength to use a composite longbow. Normal longbows (and
just about every magical longbow) doesn't require as much strength. It'll
say in the item description if you read it carefully.

Funny thing too, those comp. longbows are used by goblins. :-)

Look at the strength requirement, my elf archer used an ordinary long bow
until, well find out for yourself.
