It's there only for the *player* being a Druid. Once he reaches level
14, he can challenge for the leadership of the Grove: it is the Druid
stronghold, in the same way that the Planar Sphere for mages and
Nalia's keep for Fighters are their strongholds, i.e. it gets you
extra quests, and a little bit of extra treasure which may or may not
include a magical item not otherwise available in the game (or, in the
case of the paladin stronghold, a magical item which otherwise is only
usable by one specific NPC who you may not want, and who has a
tendency to fight with at least two other NPCs who may join the
party.)

So Jaheira can't challenge--okay. Why does it say in my notebook that
"Someone else" will have to go back and challenge (hint, hint, nudge,
nudge)? This seems like it's trying to tell me SOMEthing, but if I can't
challenge, what's the point?
Even so, there are still some nasty things going on in there. What's a NG
player to do? Should I just go in there and mop the floor with the baddies
and hope the next level 14 druid to happen along will be better? Isn't
something required in this area to finish the Trademeet quest?
Bill
It depends on what stage the grove is at - any druid can challenge
Faldorn (which is the part required to finish the trademeet quest), and
at any level.
The level 14 restriction is on challenging for the leadership of the
grove (which you can only do after defeating Faldorn), which only the
protaganist can do.
You've found out and killed the real baddie (Faldorn). She can be
defeated in single combat (only), by a Druid - either Cernd, Jaheira
or a PC druid. Once she is dead, the quest is complete: talk to the
interim head of the grove (he should initiate conversation anyway). If
you yourself are not a Druid, it is assumed that he remains head for
the rest of the game, in the absence of a credible challenger (Cernd
and Jaheira do not want to be Head of the Druids, they would rather
continue adventuring): in any case, the quest is completed when
Faldorn is dead.
Jonathan.
