They made DL, Greyhawk, that space thingy, the other space thingy and all
non-FR settings "open source". Maybe that should be public domain.
Basically they said to the fans set up a community webpage and write your
own rules and settings for these campaign rules using d20 ane we'll endorse
them, but not gonna support 'em. They still retain all the IP, they just
gave the fans the right to use and publish their trademarks.
Basically I think that WotC sees DL as a novel franchise, not gaming one.
This is probably because it did not do well, sales wise, towards the end of
TSR, especially after the introduction of the new (simpler?) rules using
those cards I think and the whole Dragons of Summer Flame drek.
