Hi,

I am playing SoA as an Undead Hunter (paladin LG) and am dating
Viconia. But at one point of the game (after killing the vampires in
the cemetary district for Aran Livail), Viconia starts saying that we
shouldn't be together because she serves me like a male Drow would to a
female Drow, that I should find someone more suited for me, etc...(you
get the picture) and then the dialogue options don't give me any chance
at all to keep her. What can I do to keep her as my mate?

Thanks.

Axel

The Viconia romance has a "bad" ending no matter what you do. That
is, you sleep with her, and she then decides to break up with you.
Nothing you can do about it, really. It should also be noted that
Viconia sleeps with you really fast, then treats you bad before
giving in to you once more.

Viconia may have some real problems with Lawful Good paladin types,
but that's just a guess.

You can't keep her as your mate. You can, however, ask her to stay with
you until your quest is completed because you need her.

A Lawful Good paladin shouldn't have pressurised her into having sex when
she didn't want to. Tsk! Serves you right that the romance failed!

Viconia will romance any alignment. Amendment: ANY romance option will
romance any alignment, assuming you don't lose them another way (be rude
to them, chase them out of the party with a Reputation they don't
like...)

You're thinking of Aerie. Or something. You're certainly not thinking
of SoA Viconia.

Except that, if she remains in the party after this "bad" ending,
there is a chance that you'll get back together again. The SoA part of
the romance ends on a break-up, but I'm told that you get back together
again in ToB provided that she's stayed in the party after you chose a
certain specific dialogue option.

And in ToB...(end spoilers)

You wind up finding out that she was right after all, that it could
never work for you to be together.

Viconia says something like, "I'm really tired and need rest but I suppose
you expect sex."

If you demand sex, even though she's not up for it, the romance peters out
for the time being (although Bodhi will still kidnap her) as she complains
that she is being treated as a male drow sex slave.

I never got that dialogue option. I've heard of it, but only in ToB,
not SoA.

Eh? That happens in the Viconia romance in SoA! Have you ever got the dark
elven chain and mace of the handmaiden? I suspect that you've never
actually completed the Viconia romance! Sex is only the beginning when one
is courting a drow.

Yes. They were strictly inferior to what she already had by then, and
so I sold them.

Let's make a deal. :-) If you won't be offended that I suspect the last
time you completed the Viconia romance was so long ago you're forgetting
which bits come in SoA and which are in ToB, I won't be offended you
suspect I've never completed the SoA section of the romance. (It's true
that I haven't completed the /full/ romance: My current game is in ToB
still...but I /have/ completed the SoA section of all the romances by
now.)

Sorry, but I just did the Viconia romance 2 minutes before I posted. It's
possible that you didn't notice this possible pitfall (demanding sex when
Viconia isn't up to it) so you simply did the right thing without thinking
about it. You wouldn't have got the equipment if you had made Axel's error.

Geez, talk about failure of communications. Cool it, you two. FWIW,
Mike Hall's memory is not faulty. For the record, in the "holding her" dialog
in SOA, Viconia says as follows (IMS):

"We are to stop and rest now, are we? That is good because I am just
ready to drop. Come then, my m'rann dsinns, let us get our coupling over with
quickly."

The PC then can say "If you're tired then there's no need for us to lie
together" and "we can just hold each other." That's the "good" option and will
continue the romance to the point where you encounter the drow handmaiden.

Alternatively, the PC, can be a horny git (or just stupid thinking he has
to go along with sex anyway though he may not care for it himself) and just
reply "Let's get to it." In this case, Viconia will tell him the morning after
that she "submits to him like a Drow male would to a Drow female" and that she
is too proud to put up with it, and thus the romance is terminated then and
there in SOA.

It's possible that the conversation only happens if you rest during the
sexual part of your relationship with her while she's fatigued, and I
missed it that way.

I wonder if the same situation shows up in ToB (again), or if I was
misinformed about that.

Thanks for that option. I'll start the game again just before that (Thank God I
saved and kept my games!!!!)

Thx, all.

Axel.
