The golems are easy enough to kill, just use the sirines' arrows,
usually only takes a couple successful poisons to kill a golem. The
sirines can be killed similarly, the hard part is in killing that first
sirine, and to save enough arrows for the golems....

No, they are not. Not for a level 1 party anyway.

I don't see why not. With those arrows of biting, I killed the sirines
and golems alone with a level 4 thief. Take a level 1 warrior type
(i.e. Kivan), with ** in bows and a composite bow, and it should be
easier.

The poison from arrows of biting causes 1 damage every second,
interrupting those spells. Not only that, but that poison also seems to
slow down their movement, making it easier to get out of sight after
successfully poisoning the target. Not only that, but if they manage to
get the dire charm cast, with no other characters anywhere near by, you
could just wait for it to wear off.

Ah, oops. That's true.
I want another

However, Jaheira can provide you with a potion of invisibility, and I'm
pretty sure Safana's only interested in the treasure, not the monsters?

Have you forgotten about dire charm? Anyway, I'm trying to get to
Coran with as low experience as possible. Killing Sirines and
Golems at this stage seems to defeat the purpose. I want another
thief/mage dual class char, that's why I'm going for Safana at
this point. No Safana can't dual class yet, but after reading
a tome, she can be dualed. If Safana won't stay unless I do the
treasure hunting for her first, I guess I'll have to scrap the
idea.

Yes, you definately want her before level 4, to be able to assign proper
weapon proficiency for her. I have managed to get her at level 2 twice
now.
If you have Imoen or a thief or ranger as main character you can use
stealth to get her treasure. If you have given Imoen 20% more stealth
when she levelled up to level 2, she will have 80% stealth with Boots of
Stealth, otherwise 60%, which is just about enough.
Get the Boots of Stealth from the hobgoblins on the map south of
Beregost.
Talk to Safana and take her into the party.
Equip the character that is going to do the treasure-misson with Boots
of Stealth, Jaheira´s Potion of Invisibility and Imoen´s and Montaron´s
Oils of Speed.
Make sure it is nighttime.
Approach the cave with the character, hiding in shadows. If hiding
fails, quickly move out of sight of any enemies and Hide again.
Enter the cave. Now is the time to drink an oil of speed if you have
one.
Hide in Shadows.
Start picking up the treasure. When the golem approaches you, run around
the corner and Hide again. If you fail, keep running across the second
golem. Make you way around the cave and pick up the rest of the
treasure.
Put on Cloak of the Wolf and make your way to the cave entrance,
avoiding the golems.
Activate Cloak of the Wolf. Hide in Shadows.
Get out of the cave and run like the wind back to your party.

Heh, problem solved, guys. Thanks for the answer.s Safana definitely
sticks around no matter how long it takes to get her treasure. I
made a beeline for the lighthouse map, get Safana and got the hell
back to Beregost. After some 30 game days (rest a lot), she
complained once about the treasure, but otherwise wouldn't leave.
She definitely has a thing for Kivan. Strangely enough she
couldn't care less about Coran. So, a seductress doesn't like
a womanizer.

It's been awhile, but Imoen can do it. Have her go in the cave
solo, and the first thing you should do is sneak. If you fail,
keep doing it, because none of the golems will notice you at
first. Once you succeed, slowly sneak your way to the treasure
cache. Take the left path, I believe. Now's the tough part: get
the stuff. The game's paused while you're looting. As soon as
you close, RUN LIKE HELL. Took me one or two tries but it's
possible.
