I asked earlier...and nobody replied, which I thoght meant nobody knew....so
I hit the websites.

I went through ALL The websites off the links from www.bgchronicles.com and
found no answers...which is surprising to me, because I found some websites
with VERY Detailed information on maps. Since all the websites didn't
mention this...I thought then maybe nobody knew about it.

Anyway, if you have access to the City of Baldur's Gate, check this out!!!!

In the Splurging Sturgeon, go upstairs.

There is a mysterious man in the east room (Mr Shade) that thinks you are
his 'friend' and is ready to go do some horrible deed. However, I haven't
found the right combination of responses for him to disclose his intentions.
Anyone able to figure it out!!??

Also, there is a chest in the middle southern room that can NOT be opened by
the Knock spell or high Lockpicking abilities....Anyone know how to open
that chest?!?!?!

Been there, done that. I think he's just an in-game joke, like Larry,
Darrel & Darrel...

I just tried that and nothing different happened. You can't wear them or
use them as far as I know, and the conversation wasn't any different if I
had them in my inventory or not.

You get them from some guy in the FAI, he thinks you are a servant and wants
you to wash them

Keep trying--I do not remember the exact sequence. There is a
combination of responses that eventually causes Mr. Shade to
say/do something noticeably different.

BTW, you might not like it--can't say weren't warned... :)

After the Shade-and-pantaloons episode, one might conclude that
"programmer's humor" is an oxymoron.

You know..like "military music," "military justice," etc. (some,
not I, dare to say "feminine logic").
