Enter a house just inside the Friendly Arm wall, to the left. The door
faces east.

I met Coran on the bridge in Cloakwood. He wants to join my party and go on
a quest to kill a Wyvern. He is chaotic good which is fine, so is my hero.
But I like everyone in my current party better than him. Is this quest
necessary?

No quest is really necessary (excluding the ones that end the
chapters), if you want to hunt Wyverns and earn some money go ahead
and take him. Ask yourself what your characters would want to do.

Nope.

SPOILER AHEAD

The *only* necessary quests are:

* Get the 2nd letter from the chest in the room where Mulahey is, at
the bottom of the Nashkel mines.

* Get the 2nd letter from the chest in the main tent in the bandit camp.

* Flood the mines.

* Get the incriminating letters from the Iron Throne and see Duke Eltan

* Go to the top storey of the library in Candlekeep and get arrested.

* Confront Sarevok

* Kill Sarevok

The rest is scenery. You will bump into some quests and happenings
that will be hard NOT to solve, but they shouldn't be necessary. For
example, it should be possible to run away immediately when you see
Elminster, so he won't tell you about your heritage. And kill Scar
when he first approaches you on the bridge (he's *tough*).

Do what i do. Be chaotic evil, get the ring, sell the ring, feel no pity for
the woman. And for extra brownie points with your chaotic god, kill her.

You don't have to take him to get the quest money I don't think. I took
him - looked at him - and then dumped him - and still got the quest money
from the wyverns later.

Joia is in the first or second house on the left,just inside the gate to the
Friendly Arm inn...if you have her ring already,talk to her twice,once to
get the quest,second to hand it over

Nope it's not, but tell you what, IMHO Coran is the best NPC in the game.
Certainly is the best archer period
