Gambling with Aesgareth

I've been trying to win a round with The Deck of Many Things but haven't had
much luck. I read in Dan Simpon's FAQ that it *was* possible but I've tried
at least 10 times with different characters and every time I either get
"Strife" or "Plague" and Aesgareth gets "Triumph" or "Construct". Either way
I lose.

I know I get the Portal Gem either way but I gather I get more experience
and a +4 Long Sword if I win. Any suggestions or do I just need to keep
trying?

I've found that stats have a part in what card you get. So buff up the char
you're going to use with all the stat-enchancing spells you have. Drink any
spare potions of str/int you have. Cast the spell "luck" on the same
character. This is how I beat Asgaereth....

Try changing the stakes.

Strife will beat Triumph.
