Got problems with sticks.

Had a Flcs+Tqs+Rcs ( and it worked nice, just needed a new stick).

Changed the Flcs for a F22 Pro(keepin the same gear around) and there my
problems began.

Got the thing (F22) setup in Win98, calibrate it, went to AW, calibrate
it and flied it.

Offline, so far so good. Planes needs triming since nose go down or up
without touchin' stick, its not that bad, can manage..... BUT .. on
line.. help me, this thing goes wild, up.. down.. i need to trim it at
all time, cant fly steady, plane is always pitchin (up or down).

I tried everything, even went for a acm card from thrustmaster, no joy.

Funny thing is all my other sims got no problems at all (WWII fighters,
CFS, EAW, F15 etc.. ).

I dont usually post here but i need help, been flyin AW for last 5 years
and will like to keep on :).

For now i will reinstall my Flcs (f16) to keep flying.

Thanks for any help.

On the AW joystick calibration screen, there's a slider
in the top right called "deadzone" - try moving that to
the right. Let me know if that helps

If what moggy says doesnt help, try going to Control Panel - Game controllers -
advanced & uncheck "Poll with interupts".
Odds are when you changed sticks, that it added new directx drivers for the
stick & rechecked the above.

The problem is your plane is from C land! Even if you are Az or Bz some Cz

What is the issue here? I swear that Cz planes can do some impossible
things, like disappear in front of you (no dar, no vis) and then
reappear on your tail, 17s out dogfighting 109s, 38s out-diving d9s
(500 indicated), etc. I have filmed some of this, but you don't get
the same picture on the replay. I fly only Bz, never see this with
Az. What gives?

John,

It's a well-known fact that a certain group of Cz players (at least in RRE3)
are running cheats and exploiting bugs. Here's what we know so far:

1. "Zero-turn": The cheater's plane appears to stop in its place. The
graphic representing the plane will appear to be performing a vertical loop
as it flips over on its back until it is facing the opposite direction. No
gain or loss in altitude is noticed, inspite of the vertical looping motion
observed. All the while, the range counter increases only slightly or stays
the same. The plane is stationary in 3-dimensional space as it flips over
on its back to face you. The moment the "zero-turn" cheat is completed
(usually 1-3 seconds), the cheating player performs a 180-degree aileron
roll to level behind you and the range counter is now decreasing rapidly. I
have seen Cz P-51's perform this maneauver to put a 2nd bomb on a 2nd ack
target or the tower, though it is more common for them to use this maneauver
to meet you head-on, then at about 600-700 yards back, flip right over and
mark your tail, which is impossible to do without cheating when you're going
275-300. Remember they do this whole sequence without loss of energy or
altitude; they just flop right over in their place and boom they're going
the same way you are almost instantly and always faster.

"Zero-turn" is seen in the P-38J and the P-51D, although it's probable that
any plane can do it when properly patched. I speculate that the P-38 and
P-51 are chosen because they can carry two bombs and to use the P-47 would
make the cheat too obvious to be passed off with the wholesale explanation
that "all you're seeing is lag." That's funny, the Bz and Az never have
this "lag" problem enabling impossible maneauvers!!!!

2. "Zero-ping": This is kbear's favorite although numerous Cz seem to have
access to this cheat. Simply put, the offending player kills you dead
before you even see red tracers coming in behind you. All planes, including
the B-17 which can fly over two airbase acks for 15-20 seconds or longer,
die instantly when even the sloppiest of firing passes allows the tiniest
amount of gunfire to pass over your planes' shape. "Lag" can't explain this
one either because the offending player never warps during the approach and
[ESC]-[D], in my case, shows delay to fall between 300-450ms.

3. Long-range shells: This is the only cheat I've seen a non-Cz player
use. I was in a P-47D after a diving attack on acks at Twist Aerodrome.
About one minute later, a diving Pj caught up with me on the deck and closed
to about 1800 yards, slowly: 2300...2200...2100...etc. No jumps in range,
delay about 370. No lag or warping. Just hit about 2000 yards and started
firing. At first I thought "how rediculous, this guys' firing from 2000
yards out!" Then I saw pings, and just inside of 1800 yards range, I
exploded.

HOW DO YOU CHEAT?

Gamestorm "verifies" your software version. There's several ways around
this. Ask your neighborly firewall expert and they'll explain that using
clever programming, a firewall-like hack can easily "spoof" the Gamestorm
request for verification and allow the launch of a modified AIRWAR.EXE file.
Another alternative is creating a hack Gamestorm dropfile to launch
AIRWAR.EXE to your specs. Just some ideas; the point is that hacked
AIRWAR.EXE's are out there and something needs to be done about it.

Oh, for cods sake. Another rumor is ground out of the mill.

I'm not saying its absolutely impossible guys. I'm saying that its
highly unlikely, highly unethical, and downright doubtful. Personally,
in the 2+ years I've played this game, I've seen lots of whine about
cheaters, but never met one of them. Maybe I've been lucky, maybe its
the company I choose to keep <shrug>. If you *can* beyond an absolute
doubt prove someone is "cheating", film it and send it through the
proper chains at GS or Kesmai...I'm sure something will be done about
it.

Films generally don't lie. Films are just a copy of the data stream that comes
into your computer. If you have questionable footage it needs to be sent in for
review, otherwise no cheating occured.

I for one have been accused of cheating several times (AWClassic) and I always
encourage the frustrated player to send in the film.

Important is the lesson I learned from the movie "The Karate Kid":

Mr Miyagi: No matter how good karate, always someone better!

And the key on using the delay and variance to determine connection is the
history range (found in the parentheses). And I've seen the delay below 300 and
then checked the variance and seen it above 900.

I have seen the same thing with Bz planes, turning on a dime at 300+
IAS, blinking out, etc. I have asumed it is lag. Lately I have also
had a real problem with stalling during a basic turn at 200+ IAS
nothing fancy, just can't even initiate a turn quite often. I have
also been "blacked out" at an indicated G load of 3........

I posted to another message basically the same observations regarding
Bz I have come up against, but have attributed it to lag. Lately
though I have noticed that some odd things are going on, both with
planes I am up against, as well as the performance of my own, so I
can't help but wonder if there is a glitch somewhere that needs
addressed. I have observed the same "impossible" maneuvers by other
planes, and have had similar experiences.
I have also been plagued with stalls at moderate to high speeds, and
blackouts at low G. I am going to try and go through my settings, and
see if it might be there, and if all else fails try a reload of the
game. Both of these problems apear when I am online, but I can fly
offline just fine, performing the same maneuvers (offline setting is
"ace") but online there are a number of times when I can't even do a
basic turn without a low G blackout or stall. I would appreciate any
ideas or advice in this regard.
One point I would like to address as well is the painting of all Cz,
or any country for that matter, with a broad brush. We are all
individuals, hopefully flying in AW to have fun. There will always be
the bad apple here and there, but please don't lump all who fly for
one country or another (or squadron for that matter) together with
them. I may not be the best of pilots out there skill-wise (I am sure
I will improve with time) but I do my best to fly with honor.

Technically Casper is right, if AW3 does not use a strong cryptography
a plain checksum can be captured and later reinserted into the stream.
Since real cryptography would make things difficult due to stupid U.S.
export laws a challenge-response scheme may be substituted... We may only
speculate though.

Old AOL age cheats are well known and well patched (look up Bigweek
archives for "unlimited climb"). Also, AW is vast. For example, I met
a spinfiter _two_ times in 9 months. And that technique is very well
documented, easy to invoke, and not TOSable. What can you expect from
a real cheater, it is probably a highly treasured information.

And BTW, what Casper posted is unlikely to be a cheat.
I would go for better armament and armor since it is easier to fix.

BTW, network is a funny thing. Think Cuber - he complains about
blackouts for five months or so, inceasingly.

My prob is being shot down too often in a head-on situation.
So my question is, if the enm is a bit higher and shoots in your cockpit or
at other vital things, whether this is recorded as a hit.
I am not shure if this is permanent bad luck for me or a misunderstanding of
the settings.
I dont belive thats cheating .. but I wanna avoid these situations in the
future :)

Thank-you, Pete. I'm glad to find I'm not the only one who knows the
technical feasibility of coding a cheat into Air Warrior.

For a period of time, the Cz in RRE3 were cheating widespread and rampantly.
After a while though, they seemed to "put it on ice," playing on a level
playing field for a time. But the observable cheat techniques appear once
in a while even still, though for whatever reason occurances are fewer and
far between.

I need to address another comment that surfaced in the newsgroup. I am not
implicating all Cz fliers as cheaters. It just so happened that this clique
of cheaters where Cz fliers in RRE3. I'm Az there, and there's another Az
that I know for a fact pulls the zero-turn cheat in a Pj on a regular basis.
Other than that exception, it's Cz fliers in that arena passing the
knowledge of how to do it around. It's clearly an issue; ask any Az in this
arena because we've all seen in, inspite of Corvette's denial.

Hoohahahahah...

this is pretty funny stuff. I can't believe somebody went through all the work
to come up with pseudo technical explanations for this crap.

I've seen exactly the same stuff for..lemme see... about seven years now <G>

There are two REAL explanations:

1. You are an incredibly shitty pilot without a clue

and

2. You got a shitty connection.

You may want to consider kind of a blending of these two explanations.

Nothing personal, BTW. Many pilots started out from zero to become excellent
air warriors. It appears you may still be working your way up to zero at this
point though.

Dear JackASS,

I do have films. My favorite is following two 109G's in a turn fight on the
deck in a Spit. Both planes were plainly visible in the 8-5 view (front/up
view). The lead 109G opened fire, but I didn't know at what for about 15 or
20 seconds. So I kept following. Suddenly, I pinged once or twice and
died! Suckitude? Try JackASS ignorance. Cheats exist and bugs do, too.
Just wait for the next "readme" to come with the update. That'll confirm
the fact that bugs exist and they do give an advantage to those who guard
the secrets.

OK, I was wondering about this also, trying to figure out how two bogs
visible in front of my upper windscreen in turn fight shoot me down.
Nothing else around, they the only two visible on dar or from any
other view point, and using standard up hat I see them and am
narrowing the range to my sight. I notice tracers coming from them
and wonder what they are shooting at. Ping, shot down. I check who
killed me, re-up from base and do it again. Stayed head on and got a
lucky ping on one who started smoking. Finally killed him when
several other friendlies showed up. Same person. They took out three
of us in a turnfight the same way, we were all in 109f/gs. Hey VET,
is this lag or is vis out the canopy not that accurate? My delay is
typically 300-580 milleseconds. Frame rate is around 70. What am I

LOL ....... what an im-be-cil ........... what a maroon.

1: You obviously know squat about delay.

2: "ms" = 1/1000 of a second

3: 450ms = .45 seconds

4: If you have a delay of .45 seconds, you can bet
the other guy may very well have a delay that
may be similar.

5: 450 ms + 450 ms = .9 seconds (almost a full second).

6: Each plane being a half second off in the server's
ability to report their positions makes their positions
different from what you SEE when you play (AND
when you film - duh!).

7: A plane (or in this case a SIMulated plane) can move
a long ways in a second.

8: Bullets (and even more so - shells) can do ALOT
of damage in a second.

9: None of this makes sense to you.

10: You seem to enjoy whining much more than
the game itself.

Cheats? Hacks? Sure there's a slim possibility in all games
(and other applications). Don't make a cheat out of
nothing though.

Next time you feel the overwhelming desire to "help"
the community by reporting "cheats" or "hacks" and
to expound on your theories on how they're accomplished,
try hopping up from your computer and running around the
room a few times, flapping your arms and shouting, "The
sky is falling! The sky is falling!". Hopefully that will get
rid of the urge .... and (believe it or not) the community
would be better off for it.

Thanks Doc,
Bugs

Did kbear hear his name mentioned?

2. "Zero-ping": This is kbear's favorite although numerous Cz seem to have
access to this cheat. Simply put, the offending player kills you dead
before you even see red tracers coming in behind you.

And numerous Cz players have been accusing Ouz of doing the "zero-ping cheat,"
leading me to believe that this is nothing more than network delays. The host
computer has decided that you are dead and tells you that fact before your own
front end reacts and plays the ping message. Tops has been accused of the
"zero-turn" cheat by getting his Bf-109G turned around to kill a faster moving
attacker diving in on him, but he seems to do it in a horizontal plane, not the
vertical loops and rolls you describe. In this situation, a faster moving
Spitfire has actually maneuvered himself into Tops' killing zone because he
didn't throttle back on the attack. Tops constantly asks why an enema on his
six does not warp, but an enema in front of him does warp like crazy. The only
question I can think of about your "zero-turn cheat" is whether the guy that
supposedly uses this technique is co-alt with you or several thousand feet
above you. If he is several thousand feet above, I
refuse to explain his maneuvers, it's not a cheat.

>All planes, including the B-17 which can fly over two airbase acks for 15-20
seconds or longer, die instantly when even the sloppiest of firing passes
allows the tiniest amount of gunfire to pass over your planes' shape. <

This really is one of kbear's favorite moves.
Saddle up on a B-17G from a higher altitude
and drill his butt while approaching at 500 knots. The host computer rewards
this tactic
by adding the defender's energy to the energy of the cannon shells, and also
rewards the approach from the rear, while an evading B-17G is hardly hurt by
the same explosive 20-mm cannon shells in a head on pass. Go figure. And why is
it that the acks at an airfield
can kill an approaching T-34 instantly at 9000
yards, but a B-17G can fly over the same acks at 500 feet for a couple of
passes and survive?
Maybe the Cods at Kesmai decreed this dichotomy.

>3. Long-range shells: This is the only cheat I've seen a non-Cz player
use.

Ouz came up to 40k hunting me the other day, and Grmpy asked me to drag him
down so we could all play pattycake together. I dove under Ouz and the host
told me that Ouz was
5k yards, nearly three miles, when he started pinging me. Grmpy says that the
host loses planes diving at high speeds, and I was going over 500 knots...

Doesn't it seem more logical that if a player has the expertise to decompile,
hack, and recompile airwar3d.exe, maybe he is getting paid big bucks as a
computer programmer somewhere, and doesn't have the time to cheat

After a couple of years of playing, I have found that one country does indeed

big difference between bugs and cheats. My guess is that you are often
the victim of network problems and your own ineptitude. instead of
trying to improve your own connection, and helping others who's
connections need improving, it's easier for you to assume that you are

If the Cz in RRE3 have any cheats, they sure never shared any of them with me.
The arena was a pleasant place to while away an hour or so in the morning and a
couple of hours at night. The Widowmakers enjoyed morning dogfights, and there
wasn't a great deal of
sandbagging going on. To define "sandbagging," that is the practice of
capturing
as many enemy bases as possible immediately after the game resets in the early
hours of the morning. In order to sandbag a base rapidly, it
must be porked, and the sandbaggers land their planes at the base they just
bombed, so they can get another load of bombs rapidly. The WM's went to another
arena, so there was very little left to do in the mornings except sandbag
bases. Many times the weAZels would wake up to find that the Cz's had
sandbagged
most of weAZelland. So the weAZels began
getting up early to sandbag C-land and hold it all day until they could get
enough people to gangbang the rest of C-land in the afternoon. One big weAZel,
Tops, changed over to B-land to agitate the Lamerz over there to capture all of
C-land before the regular players came on line in any numbers.
kbear's squad decided to change arenas rather than face sandbagging in the
morning followed by gangbanging at night. Accusations of cheating ran rampant.
Insults flew like rice at weddings, but sandbagging and gangbanging continue.
The simplest suggestion to stop sandbagging is to reset the arenas twice a day,
or change the reset time to benefit the majority of North American players, but
Mage doesn't seem to want to do that, preferring to wait until the new Europe
maps come out with the next patch. In the meantime, kbear will play in the
Allies vs. Axis arena. With 50 bases available in Festung Europa, there is no
way the sandbaggers can affect the fun for the ones who want to fly fighters.
If Casper stays with his gangbangers in RRE3, he won't have
kbear to accuse of cheating anymore. And it
will do Casper no good to accuse kbear of being a gangbanger too. kbear's role
in the
Rebels Without Cause was "hired killer,"
executing the bombers and runstangs which just happen to be Casper's favorite
planes.
kbear only got into furballs when it looked like a weAZel might be able to run
away from the
fight he picked with the noble defenders of
C-land...kbear really doesn't care to fly that low anyway because the ground is
too hard.

the cheats. Let me help you out with some of your other questions before

> How does Windows verify any software version when you highlight a file,

The vendor's name, the version number, and other little tidbits of
information are some elements of a generic data set used by Windows, as a
[pseudo]multi-tasking operating system, to identify applications. This is
different from the Gamestorm version verification. I'll get to that next.

> >Another alternative is creating a hack Gamestorm dropfile to launch
AIRWAR.EXE
> to your specs.
>
> What is a "dropfile," anyhow?

Dropfiles act as a go-between that allows your browser (and the web data it
has collected from Gamestorm's website) to pass along certain vital
information to Gamestorm's universal software launchpad, LAUNCHER.EXE. It
allows Gamestorm to use one installed executable to launch a wide variety of
gaming applications without inundating your Windows with thousands of
filetypes. It contains information like this:

[Package45]
Name=main
Variant=default
Description=Air Warrior III Online
URL=/airwar3/main_pkg
CRC=3108778487
ManifestSize=1095
PackageSize=2778828
WindowsVersion=Windows 95
KeyFileName=airwar3d.exe
PostReadMeFile=qwikstrt.txt
WinHelpFile=airwar3d.hlp
PreReadMeFile=/airwar3/default/install.txt
LicenseFile=/airwar3/default/tlicens.txt
UpdateReadMeFile=/airwar3/default/update.txt

This dropfile tells Gamestorm's LAUNCHER.EXE application which game you want
to play. The CRC means "cyclic redundancy check." It's how LAUNCHER.EXE
knows if you've got the intact version of AIRWAR3D.EXE that Kesmai WANTS you
to have (and not one with "slightly" modified aircraft performance). Of
course, a liaison application to "intercept" your browser's request to
execute LAUNCHER.EXE can easily be arranged. Such a "go-between" app would
simply make the necessary changes to this dropfile (ie, putting in the
correct CRC values as required to spoof the REAL LAUNCHER.EXE), then spawn
the real LAUNCHER.EXE which finishes the hacker's dirty work, without
Gamestorm's server even knowing!

> > Just some ideas; the point is that hacked AIRWAR.EXE's are out there and

Ever since the first computer powered up, "hackers" have looked for ways to
beat the system just because THEY CAN! For them, it's fun. It's a
challenge. And it's very, very easy.

Then there's the rest of us: We love aviation history. We love World War
II aircraft because in the entropy of prop-driven aircraft, the Warbirds
were among the finest machines ever built in history, either in this age or
the past. We're airshow buffs and we live the fantasy of being World War II
pilots through Air Warrior 3. While there's no such thing as a perfect
aviation game, kbear, Air Warrior is a lot of fun as long as everyone is
playing on a level field. It's a shame that some people (you and I have
both seen them) can't respect that and have to ruin the value of the
historic fantasy of the game by ruining it for everyone; by cheating.

As an aside, would you find it humourous if I modified a Stuka to fly faster
than a P-47, corner as well as the Spit IX (except with no wing failure and
no compression), have ten times the bombload of a B-17, and have the hit
points of 255 B-17's?

Enjoy your holiday, everyone! =)

Back up a second. You accused practically all of the Cz in your arena
of cheating by hacking the program (or sharing info on a hack). You
also accused Kbear of being part of such a "conspiracy". You seem to
think the game is compromised to such a degree that any 12 yr old
hack can cheat without being caught by anyone but you (and maybe
a few others you've talked into being as paranoid as you). I'm sure
you have yourself convinced that this is a fact. Unfortunately, it's
not all that convincing to me (and perhaps many others here).

While it's true that the vast majority of AirWarriors detest cheating,
it's also true that a "friendly complaint in the NG about cheating
running rampant" is just as harmful. If you have evidence of a player
cheating inform Kesmai support and let them handle it. If the suspense
of what they're doing is killing you ...... take up a second hobby to
occupy your time (and save us some) while you wait.

Hate to break it to ya bub, a Stuka out trns a spit, hands down, just yank
stick+ dropflap = dead spit ( just keep him in the horizontal, & no prob) on

No sir. In RR I had no trouble getting my share of kills. True that controlling
plane w. mouse is not as accurate as w. a stick, and there are lots of shots I
miss coz of that (following a plane in vertical manouvres and trying to get a
shot for example), but of course my opponents don't know that. ;)

In FR is impossible. I keep pulling too many G's, blackouts, low/hig speed
stalls
etc. Then again, I don't fly FR. Except for that time I flew as zeke pilot in
Guadalcanal scenario and got 4 kills :)

And finally I do know what flyin usign a stick is like. I used to have one, but
got tired of having to replace the damn springs (Thrustmaster products...). I
miss my peddals, though. Especially when flyin the P38. :)

The software is verified upon start up don't think it is when you exit
to look at the help menu, the game just starts right up at this point
you might be able to change a file that has been doctored. One thing I
have noticed is that when Gamestorm has a heavy load the game play will
slowly get worst, I Play in full realism and when there are over 120
people on line everybody will warp no matter of delay and variance (my
usual delay is 100 to 200 variance is 20 to 48 I have a ADSL
connection). I have never seen the turns you all are talking about but a
former Squad member has complained about it so it seems the problem may
be your end not the cheat's. But still think cheats are possible. I know
for sure that the CZ's in full realism were using a cheat to uncloke as
we called it to bomb airfields it is a bug they used, what they did is
challenge someone to a duel which was accepted then they took off the
other guy did not they then flew over the based and hit a certain key
to come out and bomb the base it worked tried it to see. If you have to
cheat then go play duke nukem.

A player's admission? Yes, I've gotten one of those from each of two
different players.

This isn't an effort to undermine GameStorm's efforts to keep the game fair
and fun for everyone to play. It's an effort to make them wake up and smell
the coffee and acknowledge that there are problems, not deny them. Here's
two more for ya:

(1.) Turn on VOX and start tapping the [Q] (talk) key to invoke warps.
Works like a charm for low-bandwidth connects (33.6 and slower).

(2.) If you're really in trouble during combat, press
[ALT]-[CTRL]-[DELETE]. It halts your computer completely. Click [CANCEL]
before you get booted and if your enemy was right behind you and flying a
little faster, abra cadabra! Now he's right in front of you! This method
is far more reliable than the [Q] talk key trick.

If you have any doubts about my use of cheats, go look at my scores in any
of the arenas I play.

I want fair. And fair means everyone gets to cheat, or no one gets to
cheat. These select few who do exploit bugs and who do cheat are ruining
the fun for everybody.

I reiterate:

Then there's the rest of us: We love aviation history. We love World War

The vast majority do detest cheating and it infuriates those of us who play
fair to see a cheater in action. GameStorm knows there's "issues" and I'm
sure they're doing something about it. I'm looking forward to the next
update, because nothing beats a fair fight.

Actually we *have* had this problem. It took me a while, but I
finally learned that if I'm looking directly overhead into another
plane's canopy, I'm about to get shot.

It's all about network delays, but this yahoo would rather believe
that he doesn't merely suck.

>A player's admission? Yes, I've gotten one of those from each of two
different players.

If a player types, "I use the zero-turn cheat,"
into the text window, how can you tell if he
is serious? Maybe a couple of guys were teasing you because you take getting
killed so seriously. Then you take the teasing seriously.

These Air Warrior games are the only multiplayer online games I have ever
played,
so I cannot speak about general conditions of
gaming. But Air Warrior seems to be a game
based upon inequalities. Players have different ISP's, different computers, and
different skill levels, making some of them unequal compared to others. And the
Large
Europe arena maps have always favored one country, the one which winds up with
the most
players anyway. Inequalities breed resentment. At some point, the unequal
player
begins to ask, "Why did that guy kill me,"
instead of "How did that guy kill me?" The
game becomes driven by notions of revenge instead of desire to improve one's
own game.
And, since the enemy is anonymous until his
name appears on the defeated one's scoreboard, he is part of the faceless
persecution of the unequal player, who can whine and complain to the nameless,
faceless text buffer or to the impersonal bulletin boards to no avail. The
point that I am trying to make is to learn how to improve your game so there
will be less wondering about how, and none at all about why.

>We love aviation history. We love World War II aircraft because in the
entropy of prop-driven aircraft, the Warbirds were among the finest machines

Entropy, meaning chaos, disorganization, or randomness? Do you think that the
aircraft
industry operated randomly or chaotically to produce tens of thousands of
flyable weapons? And, do you think that you are the
only "true believer" who appreciates these
historical aircraft? Don't kid yourself, we go to
air museums and airshows every chance we get, too. There is only just so much
that Kesmai Studios and Gamestorm can do to recreate the
vicarious experience for you, then you are on your own to cover your ass while
on line, and then wipe away the tears from defeat under the guns of smarter or
more skilled players.
A Luftwaffe ace once said, "Why should I fight you on equal terms? I am smarter
than you, after all..."

Oh, yes. Winning that fight is much more satisfying than participating in the
fair fight.
Trust me on that one. And going in with an
advantage of speed or altitude or skill is even more satisfying than winning a
co-alt, co-energy fight. It is when the winner becomes complacent in his
expectation of easy victory that someone comes along and teaches
him something new to think about. Why do you suppose Zapa and Ouz began hunting
for
kbear at 30K over RRE3? Shouldn't they have been satisfied with their lawnmower
man victories?

Depending on the size of your HD, 1% fragmented could mean a lot. It also
makes a BIG difference on where your HD is fragmented. Odds are the
fragmentation will be on the programs you use most. If you play AW a lot & you

Same here, I have a very low lag tolerance, fostered by offline play
I think... It may be helpful to imagine that you drag a target cone
on a cable which is as long as your and his delay is. If he hits the
target cone then you are hit. On the other hand what you see is in
fact his target cone on a rope, not the airplane itself.

I am told they get to play in virtually lagless LAN environment at
the Con which is an altogether different expirience.

If Casper can see a Gustav in his 8-5 view, shooting, then their drone
cables are VERY long. I suggest to check D.

You've hit the nail on the head, Casper!

There are tons of other cheats being utilized by the evil green men as well
......

- "Ruin everyone's connect" : Any player who knows this
can, on command, ruin everyone's connection to GS
(except his). The easiest way to know when they've
done this is to check your connection (alt d) and if it's
over 400ms the cheat has been activated. It is exclusively
used by the Cz so be sure to only yell at them when you
notice this.

- "Winsock opponent": It is well known that GS has eliminated
all possibility of winsocks (except for this hack) - so if you
ever get winsocked, it's because a Cz has just inacted
"winsock opponent" on you. They can do it to you from any-
where in the arena and even from one arena to another as
long as they know your CPID.

- "Charge your account $9.99 per month": One of the worst ones
yet. The evil Cz have figured out how to have your credit card
charged $9.99 per month for Gamestorm!

- "Cause marital strife": The Cz have found a way to cause high
frequency subliminal messages to be emitted from the speakers
on your PC which cause your spouse to resent the time you spend
online playing AirWarrior.

- "Assimilate": The Cz have developed a rather nasty version of
"Cause marital strife" which, instead of causing you spouse to
resent you, causes you to desire to switch sides to Cz.

GAMESTORM WAKE UP! YOU SHOULD REPORT EVERY PLAYER
THAT FLYS FOR Cz TO THE FBI (specifically Mulder), CIA, DEA,
AFL/CIO, ASPCA AND NASA!

says...

Hey ghost-boy, you've got some GLARING logic flaws in your "arguments"
and "facts".

1) How can you be sure that the user-readable CRC in the launch file is
the one that the Air Warrior host uses? As any experienced player knows,
the Gamestorm web servers and the Air Warrior (or other GameStorm game)
game servers are separate animals. The Launch file is to get your
computer to fire up the correct FE and then connect with the game host.
The CRC comes FROM GameStorm TO the user's CPU in the Launch file--not
the other way around. Air Warrior has been around LONG before GameStorm
and has been playable on many MANY online services that didn't use the
web launch system. The probability that the CRC in the launch file is the
one the game host checks is extremely low.

2) You're assuming that the "real" CRC is user-readable or user-
interceptable. How can your "firewall expert" know what to mirror when
he/she/it has no idea when the CRC is sent or in what format it is
transmitted?

2) You're assuming that the CRC is only sent once and that you know when
it is sent. It's just as easy (and more logical) to assume that the CRC
is requested/sent/checked numerous times while you are connected so as to
prevent the very basic attack/cheat that you are saying happens. To think
that you are smarter than game developers who have been doing graphical
multiplayer client-server based games since 1988 is pretty arogant imho.

3) You can't modify your plane's characteristics to be an uberplane. It
can't be done. Those basic Cheat-o-matic or Hack-o-matic programs that
scan memory for a known variable value and then push a new value into
that memory location don't work with Kesmai games. They instituted
measures to stop those sorts of brute-force attacks long ago.

And just HOW do you propose that Kesmai circumvents a low-level operating
system function? There isn't any handy-dandy Win32API call named
DISABLE_TASKMAN(). There also isn't any magical way for Air Warrior to be
able to get such low level access to the hardware as to be able to
intercept and stop a ctrl-alt-del action. To try and clasify that as a
shortcoming in ANY game just shows how clueless you are about all of
this.

First off, you have to understand what headons are. A headon shot is a head
to head pass at the straight on merge. Contrary to what most people say in
the arena, headons are not lethal. Infact I have never died from a headon.
After a straight merge all bets are off, especially in loop fites and what
may appear as a headon is not.

Now, with a good connect you are pretty safe if you have the bandit in your
UPFWD view. If he is in your UP view I would start to panic, you might as
well flip a coin.

With bad connects a bandit in your UPFWD view can actually be dangeous and
if you see him in your UP view, you're dead. This is all due to delay.

As soon as I have someone in my UP view I start looking for other manuevers
because to keep him there only invites trouble.

There's an old rule of thumb in AW..if he ain't in your FWD view, you're in
trouble.

Nope, we connected via the internet just as everyone else at the last Con.
As a matter of fact, it is quite interesting to see the effects of lag in
person. Two folks flying in the arena, against each other, sitting right
