UA#3. (Empty Ice Cave) & UA#4.
This cave has partially collapsed, at least by giant standards.
A large pathway still exists to UA#5 but the entrance to UA#4 is
completely collapsed. If the tons of rock and Ice are somehow removed
from both the UA#3 and UA#4 the frozen bodies of 5 winter wolves, long
dead will be found.
UA#5. (Ice Cavern)
This area is raltively unchanged and the description for it on
Pg#3 of module G2 is still accurate.
UA#6. (Ice provisions Cave)
This cave has been widened and is now fairly circular. A Young
White Dragon has made this her chamber. HD9, HP60, AC2, Breath Weapon
3d6+3, #At3, 1d6+3x2/2d8+3. Dragons are solitary creatures and this young
female has moved away from her mothers lair for some private space. She
is often away from the rift raiding and bringing back food. She resents
her mothers control but still feels the need to be around her.
She is very brave, and will be very hard to subdue. She has had
experience with combat and took part in the fight against the Frost
Giants at the mouth of the rift. If she is wounded below half of her hp
she will attempt to bowl over anyone before her and rach her Mothers
lair (UA#7 & UA#8). she has no treasure of her own.
She knows that her father a Dragon of legendary strength,beauty
and intelligence dwells in the rift but she has never seen him. She is
not
allowed in the lower levels and has heard stories about the Dragon Hag
which dwells below, a horrible blighted female dragon which has
ensorceled
or imprisoned her father. She is not allowed in the lower levels. She
knows that her father has human slaves ( the wizard and guardsman) who
she somtimes lets ride upon her back and the location of her mothers lair
and where her sibling lair on the UA.
UA#7. (Cavern)
This is the lair of Aurora, a mature adult female White Dragon.
HD14, HP99, AC-2, Breath Weapon dmg7d7+7, #At3 dmg1d6+7x2/2d8+7 MR15%
she knows no spells.
Aurora is the consort of Glacier the Ancient White Wyrm who
dwells
in the lower level. Crystal, Glaciers primary mate also dwells below and
is a deadly rival of Auroras.
This area also contains 4 very young White Dragons, her children.
2 are females and 2 are males3. HD7, HP40x4 AC3, Breath Weapon 1D6+1
#At3
dmg 1D6+2x2,2d8+2.
Aurora is very independant and has passed this along to all her
children. These 4 will fight side by side to protect their mother but
she is very protective of them. If they are injured she will push them
back and try to keep them from harm. She will try to drive them to
the south and into UA#8. If any are killed she will go beserk and cannot
be subdued. If the PCs are able to capture one of her children or
seriously threaten it she will be open to negotiations. She will promise
anything and answer any questions that the PCs have, but she will also
lie, feebly, shes not very intelligent and once her children are safe she
will not honor any of her promises. If she can she will try to contact
one
of the guardsman, such as Herv in UA#2 so that he can contact Glaciers
slaves (the winter wizard and guardsmen) for help.
She knows the location of the wizard, the guardsmen, Glacier and
Crystals lair. She will not give out any accurate information about where
her children lair. She will not allow any PCs to enter area UA#8 even at
the cost of her older childrens life.
UA#8. (South cavern)
Here is Auroras treasure. This huge empty cavern is home to
all of Auroras young. 15 hatchlings, these dragon babies are HD5, HP24
AC4, Breath Weapon 1d6+1, #At3 1d6+1x2/2d8+1. While still tiny
for dragons these man sized monsters are capable of devouring or
maiming the PCs out of hunger or curiousity.
UA#9. & UA#10. (Cavern Guard Complex)
UA#9 Is a the main route from the Upper Area to the Lower Area.
It has been swept clean by the passage of Dragons, especially Aurora who
has widened many of the tunnels in the Upper Area. Other than deep gouges
left by claws, winds and tails this area is empty.
UA#10 This is home one of Auroras oldest children, a juvenile
male
Dragon, HD11, HP75, AC1, Breath Weapon 4d6+4, #At3 1d6+5x2/2d8+5. This
Dragon will soon be leaving to establish his own nest. He is a
particularly petty and selfish Dragon, terribly spoiled by his mother.
He will flee if taking more than 20% damage and will surrender if he
takes more than 50% damage. He is a brute and a bully, a cowardly Dragon
at heart. He will be full of false courage and bravado at first and will
seek to toy with the PCs hoping to see them cower and cringe before
him. He will betray anyone including his mother and siblings to survive
and will fawn in a disgusting manner before the leader or strongest
appearing member of the PCs group. He will also seek to escape or betray
the party at the first opportunity. He knows the location of his mothers
and siblings lairs. He knows that some humans are serving his beastly
father, that they lair below near to his fathers grand chamber. His
father
has a gigantic hoard which he selfishly will not share with his children
and that an old hag of dragoness and her brood also dwell on the lower
level.
UA#11. (Cave of Bones)
The Dragons use this as a larder. The walls are lined with the
carcasses of many creatures. Frost giants are perhaps the most notable
bodies frozen to the walls. White Dragons eat their kills frozen solid
and about a dozen bodies have been recently set in place against the
walls. If the Wolf Iceclaw is with the party he will recognize the
headless bodies of his packmates and near the entrance to UA#12 will see
the body of its old master. All bodies have had their heads removed
but not equipment. Whileno hand held weapons are evident the Forst giants
are still in torn or shredded armor.
UA#12. (Lower Bone Cave)
THis room is also used as a larder by the Dragons and is
identical
to the contents of UA#11, except that at the South east corner of the
chamber there is a small pile of Dwarven bodies. About a dozen headless
corpsicles have been carelessly tossed at the feet of several Frost Giant
bodies. These appear to be the remains of Dwarven Warriors, each armored
in heavy chain. Three sets of which are magical.
Set #1 is +1 chainmail
Set #2 is +1 chainmail of sustenanc. The wearer of this armor
may do without a days worth of either water or food. If they choose to
do
without water they will need a double ration of food, a day without food
will need a triple ration of water.
Set #3 is +3 chainmail, bladebreaker armor, anytype of sword or
longbladed weapon striking this armor has a 25% chance of its blade
snapping. Magical weapons are unaffected by this enchantment.
If the PCs are familiar with the Mountain Dwarves living west of
the Strak Mounds they will recognize the markings and armor as belonging
to those Dwarves.
UA#13. (Ice Cavern)
This cavern was a guard post set up by the winter wizard but the
fleeing Frost Giants and yeti quickly overran it. The cavern shows signs
of a struggle, scattered bits of blood and shattered ice men littering
the ground.
UA#13a.
This cave was loaded with crates, boxes and chests. They
contained
blankets, clothing, tent clothes, and odds and ends. The Giants stayed
long enough to rip them to shreds. While all the boxes, crates, etc...
have been broken apart most of the material stored within is still in
perfect shape. If sorted through the PCs will find many servicable
blankets and tents, as well as clothing in their size both winter and
general wear.
UA#14. (Misty Ice Cave)
The guardsman have taken to throwing trash into this room. Its
description from modules G2 still applies with the addition of various
broken bits of trash and refuse scattered about.
UA#15. (Ice Cave)
Raided from the lands below, lengths of wood are stored in this
chamber. These planed and cut timbers have been stacked in like piles.
Lengths of Oak here and cuts of pine there. There is a good supply
and they have been tarped over to protect them from the ice.
UA#16. (Barracks Cavern complex)
This area was another guard sation and mustering area. It was
unfurnished and had a large complement of Ice Men now lying smashed and
the debris pushed against the walls of the cave. Now, 8 Fairly Healthy
Frost Giants are holed up here. Two are watching the righthand southern
entrance. The other six are sitting or lying around the center of the
cavern. HP (102) 98,(85) 76x7, These are the survivors from the ambush at
the mouth of the rift. They are the picked followers of Urheim who is in
area UA#18. Each is armored and carries a gaint axe or sword. The two at
the entrance carry spears and a pile of throwing boulders is near at
hand.
They are apt to attack first and ask questions later. They might
accept the PCs surrender but might then just bash them in the head just
to
make sure. In any case the two at the entrance will shout for the others
and one of the giants resting will head for area UA#18 to get Urheim.
They are members of the Varnag clan and have sworn allegiance to
Urheim. White dragons have been raiding their lands and they have set off
to the rift to do something about it. The were blinded by some sort of
light at the mouth of the rift and immediately set upon by a sky full of
Dragons. Many in the raiding party died and Urheim led the rest for the
path on the right hand side. The turned into the first cave mouth that
was on the ledge and were attacked by these little ice creatures. After
easily smashing them aside they set a guard at the door patched up
some wounds then gathered their courage under Urheims shouts and
harangues. They found a small chamber filled with crates but it contained
only piles of cloth much to the giants dissappointment. A small group of
scouts was pushed...volunteered and went out onto the ledge. They found
two small caves and a wide ledge face. When no Dragons attacked they sent
for the others. Deciding not to descend to the floor of the rift they
kept
going further till they found anoother large ledge over the rift. Urheim
led them into a cave entrance which split into several chambers and they
overwhelmed more of these ice creatures and killed some puny human who
was trying to escape through a passage to the south. Urheim set them hear
to guard the entrance and to rest. Each is a little shaken but still
determined to teach the Dragons a lesson.
UA#17. (Barracks cavern complex)
This was being used as a storage area for food supplies (human
variety) that the winter wizard had brought into the rift. Only ome small
scraps and broken crates are left. Atop these is the body of a Frost
Giant
missing an arm from the elbow down. He is quiet dead.
