An AGP version of a video card does indeed require a special slot.
Accelerated graphics ports are showing up on more higher end Pentiums and most
all PII's. The AGP slot itself is faster than a PCI slot but the video card
itself is the more important factor. But, one thing I have yet to see is
strong 3Dfx support heading towards the AGP.
I have a PII 350 with a Diamond Viper 330 sitting in the AGP slot and a
12MB Diamond Monster 2 in a PCI. The Monster is by far and away the better of
the two. My plan of attack is to install another M2 and then scrap the Viper
in place of one of the Canopus AGP cards with reverse pass through. This setup
will deliver outstanding 3Dfx performance on your choice of any size
television.
