I just bought Animalcrossing for my son - it is a previously used copy I
got from Blockbuster and it did not come with the memory card.
My son loves the game, but we cannot save the game. We have a Mad
Catz 1019 memory card with only 3 other saved games on it so there should
be room. After going through the Animalcrossing startup sequence our
Gyroid will only respond :
"Welcome home Link. I am currently processing data for Link.
Good Luck with your part-time job."
I suspect the memory card is not configured to save the game, but do not
see anything in the initial sequence to configure it.
Can anyone point us in the right direction? Does the game require the
original memory card which was distributed with the game, but missing from
the copy we bought?
Thanks,
Michael & Jared.

I'm no expert, and haven't fired up my GameCube in months. Last game I
played was Animal Crossing, and took days to clean up all the weeds in my
town. A year of neglect.
At any rate, the memory card is nothing special except that it comes with
two "free gifts" already on it that could easily be deleted on purpose or
by accident. I only stick with Nintendo memory cards, but your card should
have more than enough memory to save an Animal Crossing town on. Remember,
only one town per card. I suspect there may be something wrong with the
card, or, you did not have the card in the GCN when you started the game
up.
I use mainly the original 59-block cards for AC, but I do have a larger
Nintendo card that has an AC town on it along with other goodies. My main
town is on the card that came with the game. I have at least 3 other towns
somewhere. My organization of my GC stuff is rather chaotic at the moment.
Worse case, buy a new Nintendo card, erase anything on it, then start
over. I know, it must stink with all those things you have to do just to
get started, but that might be what it takes. Start up the game with the
memory card already plugged in to the port on the left.

i am not the expert, but several of my friends who still do gamecube
(i recently purchased an Xbox 360) always only use the animal crossing
memory card. i have never seen them use the other ones, especially not
the madcatz card, and i suspect that your problem is product related.
That is to say, there may be something wrong with your discs.
Happy gaming. Peace out.
In order to activate the save feature in AC, you have to finish all
your "jobs" at Nook's Cranny. This can take upwards of an hour or so,
depending on how fast you work. Once you are no longer working for
Nook, you can save your game.
