PRO-INTERNET SENATOR KILLED IN PLANE CRASH

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (ADMS) - One of the most vocal critics of the
Communications Deceny Act, and other draconian Internet bills of the 1990s,
Paul Wellstone, has been killed in an airplane crash. Wellstone, his wife,
and daughter were also killed in the aircraft.
The plane, with 8 people on board, went down in freezing rain in
Eveleth, about 280 north of Minneapolis. There were no survivors of the
crash. Wellstone's daughter Marcia, and wife Sheila were among the 8 people
killed on board the plane.
Wellstone was well known for being a vocal critic in the Senate of the
now-defunct Communications Decency Act. He also received the scorn of the
Religious Right, because of his vocal criticism of the bill. He was one of
the 16 senators who stood up to the American Nazi Party (a.k.a. the Religious
Right), and voted against the bill on 8th June 1994. Wellstone also voted
against other Net-censorship bills, such as the Hyde-Blyley Act, and the
Digital Millenium Copyright Act.
Wellstone was first elected to the United States Senate in 1990, beating
incumbent Republican Rudy Boschwitz. He was also a political science
professor who earned his PhD from the University of North Carolina, in 1969.
Wellstone was a great left-wing socialist who will be sorely missed. This
could, unfortunately, give the Religious Right, and the kronies in the
Republican party a good chance of taking the Senate, as well as the House, in
the elections, which are just a little over a week away in the United States.

TOTOMIANA/MARININ WIN SKATE AMERICA PAIRS TITLE

SPOKANE, Washington (AAMS) - The first medals have been awarded at Skate
America. Totomiama and Marinin have the gold medal at Skate America. They
continue the Russian domiance in the Pairs event.
The Russian couple were the only ones who got what you could really call
high technical marks in the long program. The new computerised scoring system
gave them marks ranging from 5.5 to 5.7 for the techical part of the program.
Despite questionable judging in the past, the Russians have the best pairs
skating program in the world. It is built on the Russian tradition of classical
ballet dancing.
A surprising seconfd place finish is the Canadian team of Langlois and
Archetto, who were given scores of 5.4 to 5.7 by the computer. Canadian pairs
skating has been given a boost, since 2001, when Sale and Pelletier won
Canada's first pairs world title, since 1962. Canada seems to be the real
challenger to the Russian juggernaut in pairs skating.
The Chinese team of Pang and Tong finished 3rd here at Skate America. Last
season, they captured China's first EVER world title in ANY figure skating
discipline. The Chinese skating program is a work in progress. China though
could become a major figure skating power in the future. The socialist countries
do turn out the better athletes. You only need to look at the records of
Russia, Cuba, and the former East Germany to see their impressive records
in skating. In the 1980s, Cuba dominated womens figure skating with Catarina
Witt and Debi Tomas.
