San Jose officer quits after "honest" text messages: 'I hate black people' - MOST OF US DO!

A San Jose officer, who had shot a man later hailed as a hero last
year, has left the force after the police chief said he sent
“disgusting text messages,” including one saying, “I hate black
people.”

Officer Mark McNamara had been with the San Jose Police Department
for six years, Police Chief Anthony Mata said in a statement
announcing the departure, adding that an employee who was on the
receiving end of the texts has been placed on leave pending an
internal investigation.

Mata told the Mercury News that McNamara resigned. The Police
Department did not reply to a Chronicle request for confirmation
Saturday.

The texts by McNamara, released by the police chief with details
redacted, included numerous racial epithets and statements such as
“I hate black people” and “Why don’t black people have any sense in
their head?” They were written in a period spanning March 2022 to
July 2023.
