As a black male, or anyone else, the options are open to you. Ask
yourself *why* you want to be a Mason.

Is it to be part of the oldest and largest fraternity on earth? Then
you might want to look at mainstream Masonry, as PH is only recognized
in about 26 of the American jurisdictions and a handful of others,
although the list is growing. International is not recognized.

Is it to be a part of Masonry in the black community? Then PH is
surely the way to go, as Prince Hall Masonry is well known and
acknowledged therein.

Is it because your best friend and several of your pals are
International? Then you would probably do well to join their Lodge.

The differences are much like joining a youth oriented club.
You have Boy Scouts of America (mainstream Masonry) - huge, world-wide
network of organizations and units,

Y Indian Guides or Boy's and Girl's Clubs (PH Masonry) - big, not
huge, but big, group of orgs and units,

and 4H (International) - smaller, more localized.

Whatever you decide, good luck.

Unless there is racism in your part of the world it doesn't matter.
Prince Hall only operates in USA and some adjacent countries I
believe. In the rest of the world and in the majority of Lodges no-one
cares about your colour. You would have to get to know some of the
local members, from different lodges, and choose the ones you feel
most comfortable with.

Best wishes for your search.

Several reasons. Primarily because they have likely not applied for
recognition, or failed to meet the necessary criteria wherever they
have done so.

I was under the assumption, in this context, he meant "mainstream" masonry?

I don't think so. There is a recently-formed spin-off of Prince Hall
Masonry with "International" in their title. They are still pretty
small, but very aggressive.

Then I stand corrected.

In their promotion of their Masonry, in the form of putting it before
their target membership.
