Hello!

If anybody is wondering why Mixmin isn't accessible anymore:
The host Hetzner shut it down because it has been abused by spammers,
especially in the hierarchy de.*.

The operator didn't do something against it and didn't answer to abuse
mails.

Hetzner first just blocked IPv6 port 119 and 563 incoming.
Now they blocked IPv4 and IPv6 completely for the IP addresses, so
all Mixmin services cannot be used.

Please see Follow-Up!

This can only be done by Hetzner, but I don't think they will do it
until posting without authentication is disabled.

The dork behind the sock you replied to demands that it
is fixed. Doesn't matter that Steve Crook can't do it, he
still demands it. That's what he does.

I'm amazed that Hetzner disabled the hosting of a fee paying customer. I always thought that as long as the customer continues paying the monthly charges based on the amount of data consumed then what has Hetzner got to do with it? Users of that hosting can boycott that particular hosting and in the case of newsgroups, other servers can filter out everything from Mixmin. There was no need to block Steve Crook from hosting his pet project. I'm sure there are many hosting providers who would allow Steve to have his servers on their platform. Azure, GCP and AWS are another options and these big corporations are more reliable then German Nazi hosting providers.

Lets face it Hetzner are Nazi like Adidas and Puma were. I don't even mention that idiot from banana republic!! who has blocked my posts because I pointed out that he was showing signs of a person suffering from small penis syndrome.Β  These nazi don't like to hear the truth.

Angela Merkel blocked Ukraine from joining the NATO when she was a dictator in Germany. this has now escalated to an extent that we are all paying the price for Angela's mistake. If Ukraine was in NATO, Russia would have stayed away from invading it. <https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20220404-merkel-defends-2008-decision-to-block-ukraine-from-nato>

Unacceptable.

For months now, you and several others have participated in an orchestrated
campaign to shut off kensi's access to Usenet, despite the fact that she
has done nothing to warrant this. Your actions are morally wrong and you
must undo whatever you did. If you will not do so otherwise, then kensi and
I will pursue every available legal avenue to force you and your co-
conspirators to do so, including this "Hetzner", which neither of us had
even heard of, let alone interacted with, and which therefore would have no
quarrel with kensi unless one or more of you influenced them.

A further moral wrong arising from your actions is that free access to
Usenet, and thus access by any person who doesn't have access to Western
banking and credit cards, is now apparently a monopoly under the control of
Ray Banana, and while I have not had any problem with him or his
administration of E-S, I *do* have a problem with anyone, however
apparently benevolent, being vested with so much power. Power corrupts.

More generally, diversity is preferable to a monoculture, but you and your
co-conspirators have been whittling away at the diversity of free usenet
servers until there are virtually none left. One of you (Sn!pe) has accused
both me and kensi at various times of "destroying" this newsgroup (whilst
their trollish behavior, paranoid rants, and thread derailments did far
more damage than anything either of us ever could have managed), but the
greatest threat to this newsgroup is that its subject matter is an
endangered species brought to the brink of extinction by ... you.

I hereby charge you with the obligation of reversing the damage that you
have done over the past few months. In particular, you are to restore both
mixmin *and* AIOE to normal, and once you have done so you are to post a
public apology in this very newsgroup for your attempts to destroy this
newsgroup's subject matter. After that, you are to function as normal,
ordinary usenet kooks, not supervillains, taking your various spanks as
you earn them and ceasing to take money from the fossil fuel industry to
silence kensi.

Failure to comply is ... not recommended.

I don't know her and the reason was trolling in the German de.*
hierarchy.

I didn't block Mixmin, it was blocked by the server provider Hetzner in
Germany.

The contact the Hetzner company in Germany. They were running the
machine Mixmin was running on.

There are other free usenet servers available, e.g. solani.org,
szaf.org, nntp4.net and others. Feel free to use them.

Mixmin has been abused and the operator didn't care for years.

According to the rumor mill, the disk at aioe failed. After that the
information occured that the operator is seriously ill. We haven't hear
from him for months.

I have to agree with Nadegda here. The proper process for debating and implementing a UDP was not followed. Instead some dickhead with an axe to grind acted unilaterally. If entire Usenet servers can now be subjected to a heckler's veto then it isn't Usenet anymore.

I think you should restore both of the servers named and then submit proposals through the proper channels to have them UDP'd. And then accept it when you lose.

Trolling is not a valid reason for a UDP. Only permitting spam is.

At, apparently, your behest, or that of a group consisting of you, Stickers, Snipe, and Kerman who have decided *unilaterally* to forbid no-registration usenet servers from operating. Four people attempting to impose their authoritarian vision on the entire populace, unasked-for. That is about as hostile to the spirit of Usenet as I can conceive.

> Mixmin has been abused and the operator didn't care for years.

a) Do you have any proof of that? (Remember, "abuse" and "someone did something I personally don't like" are *not* synonymous.)
b) Unless it constituted spamming, with the tacit or explicit support of the server operator, it is still not valid grounds for a UDP.

So, we're to believe that the deaths, one by one, of every no-registration free server over the past few months, after they'd been fixtures of the net for *decades*, is just coincidence and not a systematic assassination campaign?

Methinks you forgot that a key ingredient in plausible deniability is, well, *plausibility*.

Sure, sure, it's just *coincidence* that you and your little cabal have
systematically eradicated every server she's ever posted through.

It's amazing how fast you flip-flopped from gloating about it to denying
having had anything to do with it. With mental gymnastics skills like
those you could probably make a career of it. Fox "News" is probably
hiring -- they'll need a replacement for Fucker Carlson. I've a sneaking
suspicion you'd fit right in there.

<snicker>

I'm happy with E-S. I assume kensi has good reasons for not using those
(possibly including some of them being read-only).

So you claim. Please supply proof that it was a source of abuse OF the
net (not just abuse ON the net) or retract your accusations, Mr. Koock.
(That would include sending a letter to this Hetzner entity withdrawing
your prior complaints to them, on behalf of yourself *and* all of your
co-conspirators.)

On second thought I don't think you'd do so well at Fox. Your plausible

Five. I think Jen Dershmender is in on it as well, sad to say.

Oh, I don't know, I think *one* person imposing an authoritarian vision on
all of Usenet would be even more so. :/

Point: Twisted One. Also, the procedure for deciding and, if agreed, imposing
a UDP was not followed. Which makes Kerman's involvement in this whole affair
rather hypocritical on his part, given how much of a stickler he usually is
for the following of proper Usenet procedures in such matters.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

SPANKY-SPANKY! on Koock and friends.

And now that they have been thoroughly spanked, they have 48 hours to get
at least one of the servers they've attacked restored to normal operation,
or dire consequences will ensue. I won't even need to do more than sit on
the sidelines munching popcorn, because if they want a war, kensi will give
them a war!

Excessive trolling, including mail and name forgeries in certain
newsgroups, is spam and abusive.

It is what Hetzner did. They can read all the messages that came from
Mixmin to get an idea of what happened.
Just look at de.talk.tagesgeschehen and look at the many posts by
forged From: addresses and names, mostly just to annoy people. Often
these posts were crossposted to other groups where they were off-topic.

The operators of Mixmin (Steven Crook) didn't care about it, so the VPS
hoster blocked access to it with the firewall.

It spreaded spam, because mail and name forgeries and bullshit content
are mostly considered spam.

You can try to contact Paolo (IIRC with was the name of the aioe

It was Hetzner (the VPS operator) that closed it. So ask them.
Just writing an abuse message isn't enough. They also ask the person
who rents the VPS, IIRC.

I cannot restore them. I don't run them, I don't have access to the

That's simply untrue. kensi stink, and stinks bad. All of your

You aren't a person. Neither is kensi. This would be why you don't have

Confession recorded.

Now contact them again and retract your complaint, as kensi has work
to do and your recent shenanigans are wrongfully obstructing her from
doing it.

All I see here is abuse ON the net. And nothing even approaching a BI of
20.

> Just look at the Form header. Such posts appeared for years from that
> server.

How fascinating. Some usenet posters are trolls. What a groundbreaking
discovery you have made.

But also clearly just an excuse and not the actual *reason* or you
would have launched this attack years ago. These posts weren't the
real reason for this; kensi was. Other people (probably paid shills of
Big Oil) have had a bee in their bonnet for years about kensi, and it
seems they recruited you to find some way to get the servers she uses
shut down.

I hope they paid you well. It would be a shame if you only got a pittance
in return for enduring what you are soon to endure at the hands of kensi.
(For reference, look up what happened to other people who unwisely decided
to tangle with her in the past. People like Fred Hall, AB, murphy, K-man,
Aratzio, and oh, so many more usenetters who, to the last one, are no
longer with us. Most of them lost their net access ... permanently. Many
were driven mad. Basket weaving is murphy's primary hobby now, whereas it
was morphing and harassment before he had the misfortune to try his shit
on kensi.)

> And no posts from him in aioe.*. I assume he at least cannot use
> internet anymore.

Frankly unbelievable, in this day and age, unless he's been kidnapped and
is being held incommunicado. In which case kensi will be the least of your
problems. Interpol will make kensi's wrath seem like a nice sunny day by
comparison.

There have been several occasions in the past few months where millions of
identical messages were posted from news.mixmin.net in less than 24-hours.
Does that reach your bullshit threshold?

Proof, kook?

Even so, unless you can prove that this alleged spam came from kensi, it
doesn't constitute grounds for revoking kensi's usenet access.

I went to https://szaf.org/ & http://nntp4.net/ but both are in German.

Is there an English language translation URL for each site?
I pasted their text into https://translate.google.com/

There's nothing on the szaf.org home page about how to get a free account.
Where is the information for obtaining a free account for szaf.org?

On the nntp4.net site there is a register link

No.

You have to contact the administrator.
https://szaf.org/impressum/

You can also just use
https://register.tota-refugium.de/wizard/index.php?instance=reg_usenet_user&mode=new
IIRC Thomas Hochstein operates both.

Maybe your IP area is blocked. Contact them, so they unblock it.

127.0.0.1 can't be your public IPv4.

They block TOR access because many people use it to post spam.

You cannot come from localhost. ::1/128 and 127.0.0.0/8 aren't routed
at all.

You can also use open-news-network:

You know what those head-in-the-clouds academic types such as
Professor Kensi are like. They have no idea about what money is,
nor how it works. Astrophysicists are above all that sort of thing.

And yet, starting this spring there has been a powerful, orchestrated effort

I don't know German so I looked up what "impressum" means in English.
https://translate.google.com/?sl=auto&tl=en&text=impressum&op=translate

Apparently it means "imprint" in English, but that doesn't mean much in
this context of a contact to the web administrator, does it?

Translating that "imprint" web page, we get the contact information though.

"Responsible for the content of these websites

right

operator, unless otherwise indicated, and are subject to copyright law,
i.e. they may not be distributed or duplicated without prior consent."

I guess a question is what does "name" mean in this context.
Presumably "name" translates to "szaf.org", is that correct?
See below that "name" might be "news.tota-refugium.de" instead?
Or (see below) does "name" translate to "freedyn.de" instead?

That's better! Thank you for that link which comes up in German.
But which site is that for? szaf.org? nntp4.net?

Anyway, here's what that translates to in English.

That looks good as it seems to be a contact form that should work.
Translated, this is what it says in English.

Tell me about it.
That's why I asked others to see if they got the same thing.

I happened to try it at a nearby hotspot down the street.
At the hotspot it gave me the IP address of the hotspot.
But it still wouldn't let me register.

Likewise, I walked over to the parking lot of the public library.
That time it gave me the 127.0.0.1 instead of the library IP address.

But none of those three tests allowed me to create the account.
Which is why I asked if it allowed anyone else here to create it.

Understood. They also block my IP address, a hotspot and the library.

Tell me about it.
The web page is probably running something that failed.

That comes up with a web page in German which translates to this.
"Open News Network registration

E-mail address:
real name:
I have read the terms of use and agree to them by saving my data.

Before I sign up for any or all of them, I'm confused so may I ask a
question that you seem to know the answer to but I don't know it yet.

Are these four different servers or the same one?

The person in the impress is the operator IIRC.

Read the RFCs about IPv4 and IPv6 address types. Localhost (127.0.0.0/8
and ::1/128 are onyl for communication inside your computer. You cannot
connect to other computers using that address.

Which one did it gave to you?

Wrong, you cannot use 127.0.0.0/8 to connect to other computers.

My IPv6 network (hurricane electric IPv6 in IPv4 tunnel) is also
blocked.

What is that IP address?

Thanks for responding as on this newsgroup, probably 100 out of 101
suggestions for "free news servers" turns out to not be the case when you
actually try them.

Thanks. I see below that it's four different servers. None of which worked
yet but I'll try them (but I suspect none will actually work when tried).

Thanks. I'll try all four but I don't think any will work because I've been
down this road where 100 out of 101 listed "free" news servers don't work.

I know that. You know that. Everyone knows that. We all know that.
It's a bug in the script on the web page that "thinks" I'm on localhost.

It was the hotspot of the IP address. I didn't write it down.
But I ran a curl reported the correct hotspot IP address.
curl icanhazip.com

It's the web page which is bad.

I know that. You know that. Everyone knows that. We all know that.
It's a bug in the script on the web page that "thinks" I'm on localhost.

I'm not. A curl reports the correct IP address.
curl ifconfig.me

The web page is bad.

What it may be doing is blocking all non-German IP addresses perhaps?

The web page is giving the wrong error message.
The real IP address is given by a curl command.
curl ichanzip.com
curl ifconfig.me

He probably knows this since EVERY attempt fails.
I suspect he's blocking everything that isn't coming from Germany.
But I have no way of knowing that. I just know I tried 3 ISPs.
All three failed.

Thanks. Generally 100 out of 101 suggested "free" servers doesn't work.
But maybe we can get one of those four to work. I'll keep trying.

Thank you for your kind help!

The German word "Impressum" mean "Legal Notice" in the context of web
sites. Such information is compulsory for business web sites.

AFAIR szaf.org is not a public news server, it's a closed community of
people who consider themselves to be "szafe" ("Schafe"/sheep as
pronounced by people with a lisp).

Proof, kook? I'm not aware that kensi has ever been diagnosed with anything
of the sort, and if she has she sure as hell wouldn't have shared it with
*you*, or posted it publicly anywhere. Also, she's not imaginary and she's
no friend of Kerman's.

Thank you Mr. Weyand for that expert explanation as it didn't make sense to
me from the Google translation - but your explanation does make sense.

Ah. Thank you again for explaining that as I've been on this newsgroup for,
oh, I don't know, decades, where 100 out of 101 suggestions don't work.

I'll try the other three suggestions kindly proposed by Mr. Moock.

Is it really online open for these people?
Doesn't Thomas Hochstein accept every user that can behave?
I remember that I read that in the past.

Can you confirm that your friend Professor "kensi" Kensington is an
astrophysicist currently working in Finland at a university there?

That is what you have told us before; is it true or not? It's a simple
question but I'll wager that you can't answer without prevarication.

Not as far as I know. And I know at least one person who was begging and
pleading to be admitted, but to no avail.

Maybe you are confusing szaf.org with tota-refugium.de, the t-online.de
memorial site?

Please do not misrepresent my position, Paul. kensi is not a person and
is an "it", not female. It does not exist. Similarly, Nadegda is not a
person and is an "it", not female. It does not exist.

Your thousands of sockpuppets are "its", Paul. And they all desperately

Where'd he go? Has he run away ~again?~ I suppose that's proof
enough that "kensi" is just yet another figment of Paul Derbyshire's

But when attempting to post it seems to always reply that you're

It was nothing to do with "Hetzner Online GmbH" blocking Steve Crook. Whoever was spreading that rumour should be ashamed of himself.

MixMin is still hosted on German Nazi servers (IP 144.76.182.167) and there is no way they can block a fee paying customer. The customer is paying by the by the band-width consumed (I imagine) so why should German Nazi worry about spam. They get paid for everything so they should just shut up and let the customer run his newsgroups. It's easy money for any hosts because they have no need to worry about support costs. Customer manages his own servers and the only time he needs to contact them is when there is catastrophic fault because of some hacker managed to penetrate the firewall. Putin's Wagner army is disbanded so that's not a problem now for us but it might be a problem for the dictator.

IPv6 is still blocked.

IPv4 port 119 works, but I cannot post to de.test.

IPv4 port 563 denies posting at all.

Thanks for that information. I can't find the szaf.org admin address, but
even with it, from what is being said, there's no chance of obtaining a new
free account from them anyway.

Unfortunately, as so often happens when people kindly suggest "free" news
servers on this newsgroup, the other three also failed spectacularly.

https://i.postimg.cc/fRykCwZz/nntp4com.jpg
"Benutzerrigistrierung nicht verfugbar!!
ihre IP-Address 127.0.0.1 stammt aus einem IP-Netz, welches in der

https://i.postimg.cc/5y9ft324/totacom.jpg
"An error occurred during execution of your request. Please try again
later. Please contact ro...@weretis.net if the problem persists."

They each failed probably due to a variety of different reasons, where the
only one that looked like it was going to work never send the confirmation
email (after waiting for 2 days for that confirmation - it never came).

Out of the five suggestions, only solani worked, which fits that out of 101
free newsserver suggestions offered on this newsgroup, only one ever works.

It isn't really a matter of not caring. I like to think that the
users of Usenet are sufficiently mature to:-
a) Not abuse the service they enjoy
b) Use their reader of choice to filter out what they don't want to read.

Unfortunately I'm, seemingly, wrong on both counts and September really
is eternal. On this occasion I've apologised to Hetzner and explained
that I've blocked posting to Usenet. That begs the question why I'm
bothering to spend $70 a month renting a server that people can't use.

Steve,

Have you thought of changing the hosts to Contabo? They seem to be quite reasonable and the prices are disclosed up front.

<https://contabo.com/en>

$70.00 per month is a rip off IMO and you are financing their Nazi activities. I wouldn't waste time on hetzner. Alternative is to use Azure, GCP, AWS or Oracle. I am using Oracle Free Tier for websites but you can also run news-servers as well.

I, for one, commend you for having allowed people to post privately for
years and for standing your ground on principle alone for most of us.

Looking in my logs which date back to at least twenty years, these existed.
freenews.netfront.net:119 [blank/blank]
news.dizum.net:119 [blank/blank]
news.mixmin.net:119 [blank/blank]
news.neodome.net:119 [blank/blank]
news.tambov.ru:119 [blank/blank]
paganini.bofh.team:119 [blank/blank]
reader.albasani.net:119 [readonly/readonly]

One by one, the spammers have been aiming to destroy the truly free (as in
freedom for privacy) news servers that have been suggested on this group.

I don't know how Ivo manages to not require pre registration, but you've
gone the way that Paolo and Alex and others had to go, unfortunately.

I am eternally grateful to you for having stood up for your principles.

And while you'll likely only reap scorn on this newsgroup, you have the
gratitude of many others who will not reply (or even see this message).

Thank you for valiantly trying to preserve our privacy on Usenet.

Not possible. Many trolls came via Mixmin to post a lot of bullshit
with continuously changing names and mail addresses.

Then some other people answer to these posts from other servers and
complain.

That would easily be addressed by limiting the number of distinct from
emails from a single IP within a certain time interval. Say, max five in
one day. (That would effectively kill Tor support though, and use from
public hotspots.)

Too much.

Additionally, it is easy to get another IP address.
A normal IPv6 network has 2^64 addresses.

It's easy: I run a very "strong" filter's, that can help me to
auto-manage the server. And when an abuser found a bug or something, and
I found them (or user's report to me), I adjust them to work prly and
continue ;)

Actually I'm working to add SSL and an .onion andress to paganini, to
help tor and other user's to play better... Stay tuned for update...

Privacy is important in a news server (as Steve Crook knows rather well).

Given Steve had to, finally, give up... I appreciate that you are literally
the last survivor of the privacy breed who have been maintaining a privacy
based server. None of the others afford the privacy that you do, although
Steve was the previous one and Paolo the penultimate of the stated group.

Even though I never spam, I've hit your filters a few times. There are
workarounds for each (e.g., don't reply to a thread whose newsgroup list is
greater than three for one example - or remove groups until it is three).

Once in a while I get a badword even though there are no bad words.
I also get forbidden URLs even though there's seemingly nothing wrong.

But that's the price we pay for our privacy - which is an OK tradeoff.
And, like you said, you respond to users' suggestions (as does RetroGuy).

Thank you and Steve and Paolo and Alex and Roman and Jesse and Steen and
Wolfgang and Daniel and Monika and Benjamin and any I've missed offhand who
provide us, the user, with free news servers (only yours of which is still
able to be private so you're doing a lot of work to keep spammers away).

I don't know your percentages but I hope the spammers are less than 1% of
your posters - where that would mean 99% of your customers are good guys
who simply desire a modicum of privacy when they're posting to Usenet.

The original complaint was about shit posted on de.* so the easiest solution was to remove de.* from MixMin so nobody can post anything on nazi newsgroups. Who is so stupid in the English speaking world to waste time on de.* newsgroups? I don't and just to check what is going on, I subscribed to de.test newsgroup but there is hardly anything on it that needs to be reported. It's a test newsgroup so anything on it is about testing so everything should be allowed on it. alt.test is full of crap that has posts every 4 minutes by a bot but nobody has complained about it. I liked MixMin because it never censored any of my posts and it also allowed me to post images when I wanted to solve somebody's Windows 10 or Windows 11 problem. All other servers administered by neo-nazi administrators have censored my posts and they have not been able to provide any evidence that my posts have spammed anything. The links I provide are to the official websites of Microsoft, Google, Oracle or Adobe. These are top-notch corporations and if people don't like them then they can always stop using the products and also stop subscribing to Windows newsgroups. I don't post anything on Linux newsgroups because I don't use it on my desktop. The nearest I come across Ubuntu is when I am using Oracle Cloud, Azure, AWS or GCP to manage websites I am paid for.

Another way to weed out spammers and trolls is to charge a one-off fee for registration. Just a small amount like Β£3.50 (GBP) and this gives them a username/password and if they breach the T&C then their account is terminated with no right to a a refund. Of course they should be given a warning (perhaps two) but on the 3rd breach they go.!!

If you see this particular newsgroup (alt.free.newsservers) the trolls are using black-September which requires free registration but the trolls are still here. The reason is because the administrator is less mindful of them as long as he/she has got their email address.

It’s been glaringly obvious since the 1990s that that is not true.

The issue here (or at least the one I’m aware of) was content-free

That's called a VPN machine gun.

I don't know if you're aware, how many open and abuse-able VPNs
exist, suited to sending a few USENET messages and then shutting down.

This allows an abuser, to have a pool of IP addresses to work with,
which makes it difficult for a USENET server operator to filter them off.

There is also a defense for that, but it costs money. There is
a subscription service that tracks open VPNs, and delivers the
list of filterable IP addresses. (That's because at least some of
these open VPNs are at fixed addresses or don't reboot that often.)
Firms like Netflix, subscribe to lists like that.

So you can "harden" a USENET server against VPN machine guns,
but it costs money (to get a subscription to the list).

The number of free, low bandwidth, abuse-able facilities,
is at least 1200.

There is at least one USENETter who is known to possess such a
machine gun.

There had been a criterion: It was injected through mixmin. Despite what
Steve Crook claims to believe, almost nothing worth reading was posted
through his server, except by someone whose regular server was off line.
Normally, if it was posted through mixmin, one assumed that the user was
being forged, given how common it was.

Steve Crook is an intelligent man. He expressed wishful thinking but in
practice, I don't believe for a moment that he was unaware of the amount
of Usenet abuse being committed through his server.

The only non-registering server that had some worthwhile content was
AIOE, and even that had significant abuse. At one point, I had to tell
Paolo to reject articles with my email address as I was being forged.

Primarily by the same two turds who ruined albasani, freenews, neodome and
aioe, one of whom is now trolling from motzarella. Neither one of them is
the character who went after the de.* groups. That one was lurking in
apas trying to get qsl working for a while. Yes we helped him.

There's free speech and countering viewpoints that some torpid
participants consider abusive. It doesn't take much effort to filter
those out or poke the author(s) with a sharp stick.

No one else has ever found it necessary to hide behind layers of

Time to trigger the right-wing snowflakes again. Melt, snowflakes, melt!
A normal user doesn't. A normal user has one, and *may* be able to get
another one if they turn their router off for 10 minutes or so and then
back on again. Not really compatible with mass flood/spam attacks. Not if
they have to do it after every five posts (if they want to morph with every
post to avoid being killfiled).
