Is www.eternal-september.org still in operation?

The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or
application.

Yes, the reason for that is the load on the system for spam filtering,
look at the discussions in eternal-september.*.

Definitely not. The message above is for a HTTPS connection and it's
issued by the ISP's web proxy. And the spamfilter is running on a
separate server (it has to handle the entire load from the Google
sewer).

Thanks, it's accessible again now.

I love that Wolfgang allows us to post for free, and I greatly appreciate
his largesse. I just want to say sometimes I get a delay of hours per
message, where there's no indication that the message failed.

Here's one from today that appears to have gone through hours later...

Here's another that had the same problem, posted at similar times today.

This is _not_ a complaint, as I love and adore that Ray allows us
to use his server to post our messages to the text newsgroups for free.

I'll use Ivo's server to ensure that this arrives in a timely manner,
thanks to the bofh team for their kindness in using their server too.

There has been an outage at E-S; the feeder server went unresponsive
and the hosters were slow to fix it. See e-s.support.

Thanks for informing me as lately every free news no-registration server
has had problems of one type or another (e.g., Steve Crook's privacy server
died, and Paolo Amaroso's no-registration privacy server died too).

Yes. I know. Spam. Spam. Spam. I get it. But Ivo Gandolfo seems to manage
spam so it can be done - but at great effort - which is why I especially
appreciate his server (although you have to add Wolfgang's server too
because you can't always rely on bofh due to his stringent filtering).

Anyway, Wolfgang's server seems to be better today so that's the good news.

mixrelay.mixmin.net, news.mixmin.net, etc., all working fine; and the
"http://mixmin.net/active" list (2.03 MB) shows 39,385 "y", 5,936 "m";
using 40tude Dialog, Omnimix, and Tor Browser to connect with servers
