Hoorah! That's 200 fewer scapegoats for the rank & duplicitous French to
point their greasy fingers at in hatred. That's 200 fewer victims of the
inevitable pogroms that will sweep France in the near future. And that's
200 fewer Jews that will someday have to flee France in terror once the
(soon-to-be-majority) Muslims rise up and consume France in an orgy of
terror & genocide.

From CNN

http://edition.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/europe/07/29/france.sharon/

TEL AVIV, Israel -- Ten days after straining relations with Paris by
urging French Jews to move to Israel, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has
welcomed 200 immigrants from France to a new life.

At a welcoming ceremony at Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv on
Wednesday, Sharon tried to mend beleaguered ties with France.

He said that while anti-Semitism threatens the Western world, he praised
French President Jacques Chirac for efforts to combat it.

Sharon irked France when he said that French Jews should consider
immigrating to Israel because of the rise in anti-Semitic incidents in
France.

In a July 18 speech to visiting Jewish American leaders, Sharon told
them France was host to "the wildest anti-Semitism."

"If I have to advocate to our brothers in France, I will tell them one
thing: Move to Israel, as early as possible," he said.

France was quick to call Sharon's remarks "unacceptable," with officials
describing them as an "insult to France."

Chirac asked Sharon to explain his remarks and said that until he does,
he would not be welcome in France.

Sharon softened his stance on Wednesday saying: "Jews must come to
Israel not because of hatred or fear. Jews must immigrate because it is
their homeland."

Emerging from the plane, the immigrants sang "Heveinu Shalom Aleichem,"
or "we bring peace to you," a traditional Hebrew song of greeting,
according to The Associated Press.

A heavyset man with a beard, wearing a white shirt and skullcap, danced,
his arms above his head, AP reported.

"Welcome to Israel," Sharon said, "welcome home."

The group included 50 children and 55 university students, according to
the Jewish Agency, the body that deals with immigration to Israel.

About half of those who arrived on Wednesday's flight from Paris came
under an Israeli government program initiated a year ago bringing French
Jewish groups to Israel.

The other newcomers started planning to emigrate long before Sharon's
speech last week, immigration ministry officials said.

'Unprecedented hostility'

While leaders of some French Jewish groups said the Israeli prime
minister was not well-informed about events inside France, some French
Jews agreed with Sharon that anti-Semitism was increasing.

Roger Cukierman, president of the Jewish Community of France, said
French Jews were experiencing an unprecedented level of hostility.

"I was a child of four when the war started -- the Second World War. I
have some 'souvenirs' of that period," he said.

"I could have never imagined that being a Jew in France would be a
problem 60 years later."

More than 300 anti-Semitic attacks have been reported in France so far
this year, which is more than in all of 2003.

Almost all of those attacks, the government said, were carried out by
young, North African men.

Groups working to combat the problem say poor, jobless men from North
Africa often take out their anger on Jews.

France has the world's third-largest Jewish community, which makes up 1
percent of the French population.

Muslims and Jews often live side-by-side in and around Paris, but Jews
in France are outnumbered almost 10 to 1 by Muslims.

In 1980, a bomb outside a Paris synagogue killed four people. The then-
Prime Minister Raymond Barre remarked that "two innocent Frenchmen were
killed" -- implying the Jews killed were not French.

It was a slip of the tongue, but something the French Jewish community
has not forgotten.

But despite the increase of anti-Semitic threats and attacks, Jewish
leaders have expressed satisfaction with government efforts to mount
education programs to reduce anti-Semitism and boost security for
potential Jewish targets.

Curious name, Butcher boy. Are you a Islamic radical leading
Jews to the slaughter in the Middle East?

In the long run Israel will be more dangerous than France or the USA.

How many Israelis were killed in the last year in Israel by terrorists?
How many Jews were killed in Europe??

Yep. The Jews community are and always be welcomed in France. As you said,
France is a safer place for Jews.

Funny how Sharon told this just after that lady in France complaint about
been attacked by Muslims telling her that she was Jewish and all that crap.
We all know that this was a made up statement and that she is now paying for
it.

That is the worry of the Israeli Jews, which is why they are running
round trying to get people to come and grabbing more and more land
from the Arabs.

Israel currently has 19% Israeli Arabs, which is more than France or
any nation is Europe. It that population is not assimilated as are
some of our Arabs.

It has the people there so afraid that a majority of Israeli Jews are for
deporting their own Arab citizens out of their country.

What are you proposing, son, the Kahane solution of "Mort aux Arabes"?
These are the words of violence and Kahane paid for that, did he not?

Your only long run solution is peace with the Arabs and not killing them.
And vice-versa.

Think Gandhi, not Sharon. Otherwise you are on your way to become a

Well, he might be correct in assuming, at the very least, that you don't
know the difference between singular & plural. Ever see the movie

How many inches in a "feet"? Don't "Pussyfeet" around. Remember to put your

Lost Record of Vote in '02 Florida Race Raises '04 Concern
By ABBY GOODNOUGH

MIAMI, July 27 - Almost all the electronic records from the first widespread
use of touch-screen voting in Miami-Dade County have been lost, stoking
concerns that the machines are unreliable as the presidential election draws
near.

The records disappeared after two computer system crashes last year, county
elections officials said, leaving no audit trail for the 2002 gubernatorial
primary. A citizen's group uncovered the loss this month after requesting
all audit data from that election.

A county official said a new backup system would prevent electronic voting
data from being lost in the future. But members of the citizen's group, the
Miami-Dade Election Reform Coalition, said the malfunction underscored the
vulnerability of electronic voting records and wiped out data that might
have shed light on what problems, if any, still existed with touch-screen
machines here. The group supplied the results of its request to The New York
Times.

"This shows that unless we do something now - or it may very well be too
late - Florida is headed toward being the next Florida," said Lida
Rodriguez-Taseff, a lawyer who is the chairwoman of the coalition.

After the disputed 2000 presidential election eroded confidence in voting
machines nationwide, and in South Florida in particular, the state moved
quickly to adopt new technology, and in many places touch-screen machines.
Voters in 15 Florida counties - covering more than half the state's
electorate - will use the machines in November, but reports of mishaps and
lost votes in smaller elections over the last two years have cast doubt on
their reliability.

Like "black boxes" on airplanes, the electronic voting records on
touch-screen machines list everything that happens from boot-up to shutdown,
documenting in an "event log" when every ballot was cast. The records also
include "vote image reports" that show for whom each ballot was cast.
Elections officials have said that using this data for recounts is
unnecessary because touch-screen machines do not allow human error. But
several studies have suggested the machines themselves might err - for
instance, by failing to record some votes.

After the 2002 primary, between Democratic candidates Janet Reno and Bill
McBride, the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida conducted a study
that found that 8 percent of votes, or 1,544, were lost on touch-screen
machines in 31 precincts in Miami-Dade County. The group considered that
rate of what it called "lost votes" unusually high.

Voting problems plagued Miami-Dade and Broward Counties on that day, when
touch-screen machines took much longer than expected to boot up, dozens of
polling places opened late and poorly trained poll workers turned on and
shut down the machines incorrectly. A final vote tally - which narrowed the
margin first reported between the two candidates by more than 3,000 votes -
was delayed for a week.

Ms. Reno, who ultimately lost to Mr. McBride by just 4,794 votes statewide,
considered requesting a recount at the time but decided against it. Seth
Kaplan, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade elections division, said on Tuesday
that the office had put in place a daily backup procedure so that computer
crashes would not wipe out audit records in the future.

The news of the lost data comes two months after Miami-Dade elections
officials acknowledged a malfunction in the audit logs of touch-screen
machines. The elections office first noticed the problem in spring 2003, but
did not publicly discuss it until this past May.

The company that makes Miami-Dade's machines, Election Systems and Software
of Omaha, Neb., has provided corrective software to all nine Florida
counties that use its machines. One flaw occurred when the machines'
batteries ran low and an error in the program that reported the problem
caused corruption in the machine's event log, said Douglas W. Jones, a
computer science professor at the University of Iowa whom Miami-Dade County
hired to help solve the problem.

In a second flaw, the county's election system software was misreading the
serial numbers of the voting machines whose batteries had run low, he said.

The flaws would not have affected vote counts, he said - only the backup
data used for audits after an election. And because a new state rule
prohibits manual recounts in counties that use touch-screen voting machines
except in the event of a natural disaster, there would likely be no use for
the data anyway.

State officials have said that they created the rule because under state
law, the only reason for a manual recount is to determine "voter intent" in
close races when, for example, a voter appears to choose two presidential
candidates or none.

Touch-screen machines, officials say, are programmed not to record two
votes, and if no vote is recorded, they say, it means the voter did not cast
one.

But The Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale, in a recent analysis of the March
presidential primary, reported that voters in counties using touch-screen
machines were eight times as likely to record no vote as were voters in
counties using optical-scan machines, which read markings on paper ballots.

The A.C.L.U. of Florida and several other voting rights groups have sued to
overturn the recount rule, saying it creates unequal treatment of voters.
Counties that use optical-scan machines can conduct recounts, though only in
extremely close races.

Mr. Kaplan says that the system crashes had erased data from other elections
besides Ms. Reno's, the most recent being municipal elections in November
2003.

Under Florida law, ballot records from elections for state and local office
need be kept for only a year. For federal races, the records must be kept
for 22 months after an election is certified. It was not immediately clear
what the consequences might be of breaching that law.

Mr. Kaplan said the backup system was added last December.

An August 2002 report from Miami-Dade County auditors to David Leahy, then
the county elections supervisor, recommended that all data from touch-screen
machines be backed up on CD's or elsewhere. Professor Jones said it was an
obvious practice long considered essential in the corporate world.

"Any naďve observer who knows about computer system management and who knows
there is a requirement that all the records be stored for a period of
months," Professor Jones said, "would say you should obviously do that with
computerized voting systems."

Buddy Johnson, the elections supervisor in Hillsborough County, which is one
of the state's largest counties and which also uses touch-screen machines,
said his office still had its data from the 2002 elections on separate hard
drives.

Mr. Kaplan of the Miami-Dade elections office could not immediately explain
on Tuesday afternoon the system crashes in 2003. Martha Mahoney, a
University of Miami law professor and member of the election reform group,
said she requested the 2002 audit data because she had never heard an
explanation of the supposedly lost votes that the A.C.L.U. documented after
the Reno-McBride election.

"People can never be sure their vote was recorded the way it was cast, but
these are the best records we've got," she said. "And now they're not
there."

Stick to defending murderers and convicted drug smugglers at
alt.activism.death-penalty, Earl old boy. Considering that your mind has
already been crippled by encroaching senility, and that your intellectual
capacity was already embarrassingly diminutive even before you reached your
dotage, I'd advise you to limit making an ass of yourself to just one NG at

English is a more positive langue.

The simpleton French not only have to add an "s" to the plural, they
also have to add an "s" the the word describing the plural.

It is not"automobile" to "automobiles" but"la voiture" has to be
changed to "les voitures".

The French are so inefficient.

Ah no! young blade! That was a trifle short!
You might have said at least a hundred things
By varying the tone ... like this, suppose, ...
Aggressive: 'Sir, if I had such a nose
I'd amputate it!' Friendly: 'When you sup
It must annoy you, dipping in your cup;
You need a drinking-bowl of special shape!'
Descriptive: ''Tis a rock! ... a peak! ... a cape!
--A cape, forsooth! 'Tis a peninsular!'
Curious: 'How serves that oblong capsular?
For scissor-sheath? Or pot to hold your ink?'
Gracious: 'You love the little birds, I think?
I see you've managed with a fond research
To find their tiny claws a roomy perch!'
Truculent: 'When you smoke your pipe ... suppose
That the tobacco-smoke spouts from your nose--
Do not the neighbors, as the fumes rise higher,
Cry terror-struck: "The chimney is afire"?'
Considerate: 'Take care, ... your head bowed low
By such a weight ... lest head o'er heels you go!'
Tender: 'Pray get a small umbrella made,
Lest its bright color in the sun should fade!'
Pedantic: 'That beast Aristophanes
Names Hippocamelelephantoles
Must have possessed just such a solid lump
Of flesh and bone, beneath his forehead's bump!'
Cavalier: 'The last fashion, friend, that hook?
To hang your hat on? 'Tis a useful crook!'
Emphatic: 'No wind, O majestic nose,
Can give THEE cold!--save when the mistral blows!'
Dramatic: 'When it bleeds, what a Red Sea!'
Admiring: 'Sign for a perfumery!'
Lyric: 'Is this a conch? ... a Triton you?'
Simple: 'When is the monument on view?'
Rustic: 'That thing a nose? Marry-come-up!
'Tis a dwarf pumpkin, or a prize turnip!'
Military: 'Point against cavalry!'
Practical: 'Put it in a lottery!
Assuredly 'twould be the biggest prize!'
Or ... parodying Pyramus' sighs ...
'Behold the nose that mars the harmony
Of its master's phiz! blushing its treachery!'
--Such, my dear sir, is what you might have said,
Had you of wit or letters the least jot:
But, O most lamentable man!--of wit
You never had an atom, and of letters
You have three letters only!--they spell Ass!
And--had you had the necessary wit,
To serve me all the pleasantries I quote
Before this noble audience ... e'en so,
You would not have been let to utter one--
Nay, not the half or quarter of such jest!
I take them from myself all in good part,
But not from any other man that breathes!

(goodness, it's tea time).

Could anyone check these quick calculations ?
650 000 jews / 200 = 3000.

If it is 200 jews leaving France per day, they would be all gone to
Israël in 9 years (2013)
If it is 200 per week, it will take 62 1/2 years (2067)
If it is 200 per month, that's 271 years to go (2275)
If it is 200 per year, that's 3250 years ... (5254)

And it will take longer, of course, as they will continue to multiply in
the mean time.

Assuming Israël has not been replaced by a multilingual state, where
religion will not be recorded in statistics anymore than it is in France.

I have ran into this figure a few years back.

One figure I don't have and am curious about is the choice
of where to go when Jews left North Africa. Many already
had French citizenship, spoke French and we know a significant
number came to France. But what fraction opted for somewhere
else and in particular Israel.

From http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/vjw/France.html

(note first that France does not keep ethnic or racial statistics,
so all pre-war and post war statistics are approximate.

"It is estimated that 25 percent of French Jewry died in the Holocaust.

(the figures I have was a 10% loss among French Jews and 30% loss
among foreign Jews residing in France, Vichy policy was also xenophobic)

Post-Holocaust Era

France became a haven for postwar refugees and within 25 years its Jewish
population tripled. In 1945, 180,000 Jews were living in France, and, by
1951, the population reached 250,000. An influx of North African Jews
immigrated to France in the 1950's due to the decline of the French empire.
Subsequent waves of immigration followed the Six-Day War, when another
16,000 Moroccan and Tunisian Jews settled in France. Hence, by 1968,
Sephardic Jews were the majority in France. These new immigrants were
already culturally French and needed little time to adjust to French
society.

Today more than 600,000 Jews live in France, 375,000 live in Paris. There
are 230 Jewish communities, including Paris, Marseilles (70,000), Lyons
(25,000), Toulouse, Nice and Strasbourg.

Over 400 Jews Come Home Together
19:30 Jul 14, '04 / 25 Tammuz 5764

"There is definitely an Aliyah momentum in the air." So said a project
manager for Nefesh B'Nefesh today, as close to 450 Jews from North America
arrived on the first of this summer's three Nefesh B'Nefesh flights at Ben
Gurion Airport.

Hundreds of well-wishers, media representatives, and public officials
such as the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Absorption Minister, and the
Chairman of the Jewish Agency greeted the new Israelis in a festive and
often emotional welcoming ceremony.

Enhanced Absorption Ministry staff was on hand both on the plane and
in the airport to expedite the new immigrants' paperwork. About half of
today's immigrants are singles, and the others are members of some 55
families. Most of them will live in Beit Shemesh, Modiin and Jerusalem.
Some, such as Nachum and Peninah Eilberg and their four children, from
Baltimore, will be moving into the Yesha town of Kokhav Yaakov - and brought
along a Torah scroll that Nachum inherited from his grandparents.

Among the hundreds of people greeting the Jews on their first day in
their old-new homes were several who arrived only last year on a similar
Nefesh B'Nefesh flight. Edith Linden of Rehovot, originally from Oak Park,
Michigan, came to greet several good friends who followed in her family's
footsteps - and expressed great admiration for those who had made the move.
Asked to explain, with the benefit of a year's worth of hindsight, what
brought her to Israel, Mrs. Linden said, "It's where we belong - isn't that
enough? But to be even more specific, it's the best place to bring up Jewish
children."

This is the third consecutive year that Nefesh B'Nefesh is sponsoring
such a mass homecoming from North America, and each year the numbers
increase. The sole flight in 2002 brought 519 olim, while two planes last
year brought 1,000 new immigrants. This year, three and a half flights are
scheduled for a total of some 1,500 new Jews in the Land of Israel.

Nefesh B'Nefesh provides the new immigrants with grants of up to
$20,000 - depending on the size of the family and its economic status. It is
funded by the Jewish Federations in North America, the Jewish Agency, and
private donations. Olim who remain in Israel for at least three years need
not return the grants.

The new immigrants were led from the plane, accompanied by soldiers
who offered to carry their bags, as well as singing, cheering, and even
shofar-blowing well-wishers, into a large hangar, equipped with several
large fans working hard to offset the intense summer heat. Among the
speakers were Prime Minister Sharon, Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu,
Nefesh B'Nefesh founders Tony Gelbart and Rabbi Yehoshua Fass, and others.
Sharon said that though he could not greet each new immigrant individually,
he would be happy to arrive at the airport every month to greet a flight
like today's.

Netanyahu said, "So here's the difference. Until now, Israel was
dependent for its very existence on Aliyah [Jewish immigration] from
abroad - while today, the Jewish People is dependent for its existence on
the State of Israel." He explained that assimilation is so rampant that no
one abroad, "including Orthodox Jews," can be guaranteed that their children
or grandchildren will remain Jewish. Netanyahu expressed the hope that soon,
10,000 North American Jews would be making Aliyah each year.

One of today's new immigrants, Nathan Gessner, speaking before he
boarded the plane at JFK Airport in New York, said that his first act as an
Israeli will be to assume a new Hebrew name: Natan Gesher. "I'm making
Aliyah!" he declared with pride. "It feels like the weight of the world is
being lifted off of me. I'm becoming a real person!"
