Does anyone know what prints a painter file on canvas simulating an oil
painting?

Not sure if this is the answer you're looking for, but I've seen canvas
available at office supply stores in the printer paper section. It's the
standard printer paper size, so theoretically, you could buy some of this
and try printing out your images onto canvas from your desktop printer.
There are also services that will print images onto canvas. You might ask
at Kinko's or places like that.

Have you thought of trying heat transfer or is this too small to try?

I just bought some transfer paper just to try it.

Although I can;t recall any specific information, there is a group (in
Chicago?) that has a printer which will print REAL OIL PAINT (including
texture) onto canvas, it is however VERY (and let me re-emphasize that V E R
Y) expensive to do a print with such a system.

To get the best quality out of a computer print some of the best work I've
seen has been printed out of an IRIS printer onto museum quality archival
papers (about 15-200$ per sheet depending on what kind of paper you want to
use)

Anyone who saw the fine art exhibit at Siggraph in '97 knows what I'm
talking about.

As far as a cost effective way to do it, you can go to kinkos, have a heat
transfer color copy made from a computer print out then iron it onto the
canvas, however this is not archival quality and will begin to fade color
after about 2 years, paint on top of it will also probably flake off if that
is your intent.

The best way to make an oil painting is to "make an oil painting" just my
two cents

Hi all,
I have a Novajet Pro 42e that's just begging to be used. My price for
printing on canvas is $12.50 a square foot. (i.e., a 24" x 36" has 6 sq.
ft.)
If you're interested, email me back. Hope this helps.
