I didn't find anything in the Painter 7 User Guide to instruct how to
add brushes you've downloaded or traded, so here's what I got to work:
1) Download the brush(es) by holding the Option key while clicking on
the link. Once you have the file, open ResEdit (don't be scared, it's
not so bad). Use "Get File/Folder Info" to change the Type to ttxt and
the Creator to FSX3.
{You can use any File Type/Creator editor you find handy. ResEdit is
free, get it at http://www.resexcellence.com/resedit.shtml}
2) Copy the brush file to the appropriate folder within the "Painter
Brushes" folder...if it's watercolor, put it in the Watercolor brush
folder.
These are individual brushes, so "Import Brush Library" doesn't work!
Best of all, you don't need to quit Painter in order to add new
brushes...just switch brush type to something other than WC, then switch
back, and voila! The new variant appears!
As for getting ResEdit from ResExcellence...you ought to be able to
download it directly from Apple, but I couldn't find the link even using
their search page. Feh.
Regards,
Typpi
Mac users should not have to use ResEdit or change Painter 7 brushes to
.TXT files.
The Painter 7 Custom Water Color Brushes on my site are, as all Painter
7 brushes are, .XML files and useable across platforms. You should be
able to use them just as they are.
If you had trouble using them as .XML files, there's something wrong so
please let me know. Others have downloaded and used them across both
platforms without a problem.
