An aerial curiosity...

Google earth: 35° 56.598' N 97° 49.306' W

WHAT ARE THEY DOING ON THE LAND AT THE ABOVE LOCATION?

You can scroll through some historical images, if that helps <g>

I will put forward my guess as soon as I see anyone respond.

Not a clue, other than the gang disk at the bottom left. But it is
Oklahoma, so it could be aliens.

Marshalling yard for a pipeline, Keystone, perhaps.

Don,

Below is a copy of the thread from the old SAF-news, now forestry
focus public. Not too many folks played. Sorry, you need to read it
backwards <g>

Way Cool, Lee!

Us OG can figure ways to engage those who don't get it. I have
another quiz in mind. I call it "the freckled land". I'll post it in
a while. Let's see who picks up on the last one.

Larry –

I am looking forward to playing this game again and will send
something to the group the next time I go exploring.

Here at AFOA we are considering the possibility of using this sort of
exercise to engage forest landowners in observing and speculating on
the forestland management of others.

Thanks.

Lee,

I sent this to Bill Samal today:

Bill,

What caught my eye was the curious tillage pattern on the 80 ac. (if I
have my scale correct). I found it looking around Cushing, OK which
is supposed to be the largest oil depot in the U.S.

The 160 to the west is very rocky as is the land south to the stream.
The stream clearly has a huge flood plain. I guessed that the dis-
contiguous tillage pattern might relate to harvesting commercial
decorative rock and that the pad on the north property line was for
storage and loading.

I now think Lee is correct that the tillage is part of a range or
forage improvement project. Lee correctly spotted the tractor and
harrow (SW corner) as well as the oil well and storage tanks w/
containment dike (adj. to road near E p-line).

Following Lee's observation(s), I'm thinking the very improved road to
the pad on the north property line must have been a staging area for
the multiple wells in the neighborhood.

I think the pond was for the disposal of fracking fluid but could be
related to livestock as lee suggests...

Oh! The obvious oil activity was a "red herring", in my mind for this
quiz, in that I was focused on the grading pattern relative to the
apparent lack of anyone living there...? Thanks Lee!

Other observations/theories encouraged...

Larry, what are you looking at? I looked it up and only saw some
scattered
trees and what appeared to be a sewage treatment pond.

Bill

Larry --

I can see a tractor with a disk leaving the field with the disk lines
at the
southwest corner. There are oil wells scattered about, but they
probably aren't
related to the confined feeding operation west of the tractor (but
maybe the oil
income allows the farmer to buy cattle and the tractor). My guess is
the disking
has something to do with providing hay and spreading manure.

What say you?

By the way, I ask myself questions like this every time I tour a spot
on the
globe, even places right here at home.

Thanks. I am looking forward to reading other reports.
