Is there any good wine shop there ? Any wine worth watching out for ?
I know this might sound like wishful thinking, but will Bordeaux wine
cost less in Paris than, say, in the US at the duty-free level ?
Thanks in advance for any input !

Before you buy.
I was in Paris in summer 1999. You will find a free duty store at Charles
De Gaule airport. Just before took my flight to Canada, I bought a Bordeaux
St-Emilion Grand Cru 1995. The price $25 Cnd. But you can find a cheaper
bottle. This bottle is sell here for about $75. So I think don't hesitate
and buy 1 or 2 bottles.

Depends on whether you are at CDG 1 (long-haul) or at CDG 2 (Europe).
There should be a decent shop at CDG 1, but I have never seen it, only
heard about it, as I have never been there.
On CDG 2, remeber that the EU-European zone is not duty-free anymore.
Besides, I never was amazed by the offers of the shops even in duty free
times. Lots of Mouton-Cadet an the like. In Burgundy, the best on offer
would have been a minor Côte de Beaune (something like Jadot's Savigny-
lès-Beaune, but village, not 1er Cru), in claret a few classed growths
in less-than good vintages, but all rather on the expensive side. The
only decent choice I encountered was in champagne (a dozen or so of the
Grandes Marques), but then again not really on the cheap side.
Sorry, but Paris looses hands down compared to Heathrow with its
sometimes excellent choice in Sherry, Port, Madeira and classed growth
claret...

The tax on wine, particularly on still wine is not all that great. Duty
free is not synonyous with low price. it only means that neither local nor
US tax is charged. The savings on spirits can be much greater than on wine.
If you are your way into Europe, you won't have access to duty free
products. If you're on an international flight headed outside the EU, you
will.
From what I've seen you can do better in NYC or Paris in terms of wine,
although you may always find the odd bottle. Duty free shops generally
don't have an interesting selection. Duty free shops at airports do a
pretty brisk business in items that have no duty fees, and which sell for a
lot less in the city. Tourists mistakenly think they're getting a bargain
and some just realize it's their last chance to buy a gift for someone
they've forgotten. Others just figure the loose change in local currency is
useless once they leave.

new offer for car rental and leasing in Europe

As I understand you'll be better off buying the same wine in the U.S. than
in France. And you won't have to worry about carrying it home. Less
romantic, I know, but I think it makes sense.
On a more positive note, I suggest that you get in touch with some Champagne
producers if you have time to research them AND visit. They'll be brilliant
and supportive if you can :-)
All the best. Roger (nick)
I got a very nice veuve cliquot 1991 there for a v good price; 91 in
general is a terrible year in champagne as far as i remeber, but this wine
was quite enjoyable and worth the price
