Somebody asked last week I think, where could one buy Japanese
foodstuffs etc in London.
Well this is the place
Yaohan Plaza, Colingdale (That's near Hendon)
I went over there on Sunday for the first time, had Sushi for
breakfast and spend a fortune in the supermarket.
They have boxes of Kirin Ichiban for about 13 UK Pounds.
There is a large food hall with chinese and Japanese restaurants
and the supermarket seemed to have absolutely everything.
I have searched high and low in London for some of the things I
used to love to eat in Tokyo, they have Obagi cakes !
Actually there's also a Japanese sweet shop there and what looked
like the biggest Nihongo book shop that I've seen on London.
Anyway I'll get back to business ;-)

The best place in central London for a variety of Japanese products (and
not just foodstuffs) is:
Japan Centre
212 Piccadilly
It's a minute's walk from Piccadilly Circus (where Eros is), and
diagonally across from Tower Records.
There you can find:
* a travel agency, "Japan Travel Centre", and a Bureau de Change.
* a bookshop, "Japan Centre Bookshop", with the largest collection of
books in Japanese and about Japan in Europe (if somebody knows otherwise,
I'd be interested to know about it). There's also videos for rent.
* a Japanese foodstore, "Japan Natural House", which specialises in
Japanese foods and organic foods (e.g. they sell free-range eggs, and alot
of the stuff in their freezers is organically produced). There's also a
selection of Bento lunches, and you can get *great* Japanese style curry,
freshly made and served hot! They also make their own Onigiri, which is
delicious, "homestyle" and much nicer (I think) than the Onigiri you get
where you have to peel away plastic and put the nori on yourself.
* a noticeboard, which is beside the counter at the foodstore (on the
bottom level) which contains lots of information about accommodation and
things for sale and language exchange etc.
There's also:
* an educational consultancy (for Japanese wishing to study in
London/England), which I forget the name of, and a
* a real estate agency, "Centre Properties"
which are located at the head office, five minutes walk away.
Sushi and more! Lots more!
I regularly shop at both the Japanese Centre in Piccadilly and more
recently Yaohan plaza in Colindale.
Yaohan has alot more food selection, it also has a large bookstore, larger
than the Japan Centre one, I think the Japan Centre bookstore may have more
Study books but for general / magazines etc I would try Yaohan plaza.
I could not believe they charge something like 7 Uk Pounds for a copy of
Tokyo magazine !!!! (At the Japan Centre)
Also if it's Japanese videos you are after I think you should try Daruma San
on Regents park road in Finchley, definately the biggest that I have seen
in London.
And if you go on Wednesdays you can eat in Daruma San restaurant for 1 UKP
a piece, probably my favourite Sushi bar in London.
The Japan Centre _is_ good and it's also very handy being right in the centre
of town, the notice board it good, the information desk is also excellent,
they have pointed me in the right direction a few times, once for Kana / Romaji
business cards and last Saturday when I asked for information on somewhere
in London to study for the Nihongo noryoku shiken.
Incidentally if you are at the JC and want to go for sushi, you could try
Ten Ten Ten on Brewer street, the sushi is not bad but the set lunches are
great value (10 UK pounds) and they have some nice favourites like Niku Jaga.
P.S Does anyone here like Japanese movies, have you seen Sonantine ?
