Hello,

I am have enjoyed Sushi for a while now and want to take a crack at making
some at home (my wife bought me a "sushi making starter kit" for Christmas).
I am looking for a place to buy Sushi grade fish, in the St Paul area.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks,

I'd first try Coastal Seafoods. They have two locations: on Snelling
at Grand Ave., in St. Paul, and also in Minneapolis. (Can't remember
the exact location for the Mpls. branch, but you can look it up in the
phone book.) Tell them you intend on making sushi and they'll help you
out as best they can.

Some of fish Byerlys sells could also be considered sushi-quality. In
fact, there are a number of Byerlys stores now that sell prepared
sushi in-store. Relatively inexpensive, and of decent quality, but
nothing exotic (e.g. no spider rolls, etc.). (Better than the prepared
sushi I ate at a Yaohan in Singapore some years ago.) My wife and I
can stuff ourselves with Byerlys sushi for under $25.

The Minneapolis Costal Seafoods is on the corner of 24th and
Portland, right on the same street as United Noodle, 2015 E. 24th St, Mpls
(had their bus. card stuck on the memo board in front of me).

'Kay, fish at Coastal, sushi rice, mirin, nori, etc from United - all we
need
now is to find a local liquor distributor that sells the 5L bottles of sake
or
maybe the big Kirin Draft beers and we're all set.

Sorry, not 24th and Portland, 24th St E and Minnehaha - got the
address messed up for United Noodle too, read E. 24th instead
of 24th St E. (makes a difference of about 2-3 miles or so....

Sorry, sorry - it's a Monday....

Maybe Surdyk's or Haskell's? I've found sake at our local liquor store
-- they even have plum wine! -- but haven't had the courage to buy
from a place that also stock Mad Dog 20/20.
