We finally got to go last night. I had been looking forward to it all
week, and holding off having any sushi for lunch in order to build the
anticipation.

Bisuteki has had, for quite some time, an AYCE special, for $21.95, so
this was what I wanted to check out. It is only available Monday through
Thursday nights, and Bisuteki is only open for dinner. I noted that they
have a small sushi bar, able to seat, at most, perhaps five patrons.
They also have a full liquor bar, hot sake, and Kirin beer. (I decided
to have green tea, which must have been included as I wasn't charged for
it.)

Soup and salad also came with my meal. The soup wasn't the typical miso
with a few chunks of tofu and some seaweed that you find at most
Japanese restaurants, this was a clear broth with lots of raw mushrooms,
and an onion flavor. It was good, not too filling, but I still prefer
the former. The salad was the typical iceberg with the orange colored
ginger dressing. I didn't fill up on salad or soup.

The waiter brought several sushi lists and a pen, and explained I could
only order five orders at a time. Well, it turned out that one order was
two pieces, so that amounted to 10 pieces at a time. (Such was the case
with nigiri sushi.. I never ordered any of the rolls).

I thought the selection was quite varied. There were lots of specialty
rolls, and plenty of nigiris. All said and done, I ate 26 pieces of
nigiri sushi, and none went to waste (except a few balls of rice toward
the end, about which nothing was said, nor was I charged).

I have to admit, I wasn't quite sure to know what to expect, this being
my first AYCE experience. But I was most pleasantly surprised. The
pieces of fish were nicely sized, a good ratio of fish to rice; the rice
not overly abundant in quality. The fish was definitely fresh, and the
salmon was some of the best I've had. The mackerel was great, too. I
would definitely recommend this as a possible outing for the Boston
Sushi Society. I just wish I could have eaten more. :)

BTW, this is what I had:

4 pieces sake (salmon)
2 ikura (salmon roe.. these were delicious, not overly salty, but
delicate)
4 sabe (mackerel)
2 hirame (flounder)
2 suzuki (sea bass)
2 masu (sea trout)
2 tobiko (flying fish roe, very crunchy)
2 unagi (eel)
2 tako (octopus, not overly chewy)
2 uni (sea urchin... I remembered trying this years ago and not liking
it, so I tried again... since it was included on the list, figured what
the hell... I wasn't crazy about it, the texture was strange, but I
still ate both pieces)
2 hotate (scallop, this was a first time thing, and they were delicious)

And then I rolled out of there. :) I'd like to go again soon... any
takers? Dan? :)

The only sushi item on the regular menu that was not on the AYCE list
was a shrimp tempura roll. Sadly, I didn't see Spider rolls anywhere.

Bisuteki is located in Revere at 407 Squire Road, in the Howard Johnson
hotel. Their phone number is (781) 284-7200.
