After having such an interesting dinner at Kumori, I tried Tokyo
Japanese Restaurant.

Another interesting place, though I was at least able to order and
receive sushi there. Kim the owner is Korean, which explains the
menu. The rice is very bland, no flavoring at all as far as I can
tell. I have gone here for a number of years and it still amazes me
that none of the chefs have learned the art of keeping their hands
moist to keep the rice from sticking to them.

The sushi is sold by the piece, I must say though that the pieces are
easily twice the size served even in a generous restaurant. The
california roll with jalapeno peppers is unique.

The fly strips hanging behind the chef was an interesting decorator
touch, as was the constant batting of the little buggers not visiting
their friends on the strip.

All in all, another unique McAllen experience. I do believe I will
stick to tacos while visiting this area of the world in the future.

Sounds like a wise idea. You're batting 2 for 2 in the bad sushi bar experiences
there.
