I don't know of a source. But, I did taste some fresh wasabi when I lived
in Hawaii. It was delicious. It has a much stronger kick than the
reconstituted kind.

Supposedly it's illegal to export the roots and cuttings from Japan, but

The green stuff you get with sushi and sashimi is Japanese horseradish and
it doesn't kill anything except your tastebuds if you are unusually
sensitive to hot foods. But wasabi, mixed with a little very good quality
shoyu (soy sauce) is indispensible to your enjoyment of raw fish.
