My boyfriend realized that peeps are one of my PMS cures. When I get in
that bitchy mood he just gives me peeps and my mood get remarkable better.

Being the smart man that he is - he wanted to stock up on peeps to make it
through the rest of the year.

He bought 20 boxes and put them in the freezer. I had peeps all year long.
UNTIL - Hurricane George when we lost power for 4 days and all of the peeps
ruined. As you peep lovers can understand it was a very sad day.

Happy peep season - Angela

How were they ruined? Did they get water damage? The darn things
last forever, just on the *shelf*, so being un-frozed for a few
weeks shouldn't have caused them any permanent damage. I'm curious.

Alas, I didn't have enough will-power to freeze my super-stash, and
ended up eating most of them last spring.

I like eating them when they're still frozen; it somewhat simulates
the stale effect, though not completely.

I've found that if you put them, the unopened sealed boxes, in a tight
ziplock bag, with all the excess air squeezed out you can keep them
from one season to the next right at room temp. Right on the desk here
I've got a box of last year's yellow ones, and they are just a teeny
tiny bit firmer than this year's. Be sure that you don't open the
baggie until you're ready to eat.

aha, i see the problem here. <g> a difference in peep-eating styles.

I like them stale. as stale as humanly possible. I open the bag
at the earliest possible moment, and hold off eating until the
latest possible moment. Unfortunately, I have little willpower,
and they don't often last long enough to get stale enough...

If I found a package that had been around since last year I think
I'd piss myself from sheer delight. <bfg>

here's to peep season annie!

The Peeps were ruined because when the power went off we didn't open the
freezer at all hoping that if the power came back on in a few hours then
everything would still be ok. After 4 days we had to clean the freezer out.
Ice cream and everything else had melted onto my yellow and blue peeps -
they were completely gross.

At that point with no lights or water for 4 days a peep would have been
perfect.

It was a sad day in peepdom.
