Q: What are your favorite fast-food items and at which restaurant? (I
think we can include pizza delivery in here or a sub place - even if they
may or may not have a drive-thru - we know, at least in the U.S. many places
like these are nationwide.)
Wow, good question, kili, I'm glad you asked. Here are my favorites:
*Beef Burger:* Hardee's/Carl's Jr. Mushroom "N" Swiss Thickburger with
added bacon, lettuce, tomato - hold the mayo. It's not cheap, but it's at
least 2 - 3 meals for me and it's messy, but it's good. (My second choice
would be a Jack in the Box Jumbo Jack with cheese and bacon, but we don't
have one of those around here.)
*Chicken Sandwich:* - Hardee's/Carl's Jr. Chicken Club Sandwich. It's
loaded with good stuff. I don't quite get the fried parts patty on a wonder
bun slathered with oil/margerine and a couple of pickles thrown in. Weird.
*Fish Sandwich:* - Hardee's/Carl's Jr. beats Burger King's because they put
a tomato on the sandwich and their bun is better. McDonald's fish has too
much tartar sauce, no lettuce and a wedge of American cheese; that's just
kid's stuff.
*Fried Chicken:* - ??? Haven't had much experience, here. I know KFC is
overpriced and that's about it.
*Taco:* - Jack in the Box tacos. They beat Taco Bell to shame. Again, I
wish we had one here. Sigh. Oh, or Rubio's for a fish taco, but we don't
have those here, either.
*Burrito:* - Chipotle Mexican Grill. You can get your choice of beans,
meat, and toppings.
*Subs:* - I'd say Publix grocery store, but they're only in the South, so
I'll have to pick Subway next. Quizno's is too overpriced for their
portions.
*Pizza:* - U.S., Nationally, we've got Pizza Hut, Domino's, Little Caesers,
CiCi's, Papa John's, Chuck E Cheese, Round Table, Shakey's, Hungry Howie's,
and Godfather's, for the largest chains. Personally, I'd skip them all for
a mom & pop place, but in a pinch, I'd have to get Pizza Hut.
*Sides:* - ???? The only side I usually get is a side salad. Help me out,
here. Who's got the best sides?
Anything else we should include?

Beef Burger - Hands down Wendy's 1/2 lb double. 2nd place, JitB and
Hardee's sourdough burgers. Honorable mention, McD's Big Mac, BK.
Taco - I agree that JitB's taco's are much better then TB but there are
no JitB's up here.
Subs - Schlotzsky's (None of those up here either...I'm starting to miss
Austin a lot now:( 2nd, Quizno's.
Chicken - I prefer chicken strips since I'm not a big fan of chicken
with bones (OMG! Jerry and I have something in common.) so it's Popeye's
spicy strips.
Sides - I think you know the answer to that. 2nd place, KFC.
Pizza - I starting to get tire of the major chains but Papa John's (best
sauce and cheese) is the best of them. I'm starting to get into more of
the mom and pop's too. Side note: It must be nice to have a Shakey's
nearby! When I was kid living in So Cal my parents would take me there
for my birthday. Every since I moved away I've been wanting their pizza
so bad.

I miss Shakey's, too. I hear they're starting to make a come-back, though,
so we'll see.

The spicy chicken sandwich from Rally's. It came as a "club" sandwich,
too, but I was always too cheap to order that :)

The aforemetioned red beans and rice from Popeyes. Cheese curds at A&W,
Wendy's baked potato, McDonald's fries, the potato chips at Quiznos and
Jimmy Johns, root beer floats at A&W.
I think damn near everything I've had at an A&W has been a tasty value,
in fact :)

Haven't had a beef burger in a while, but I remember the Whopper and
it's added grill flavoring being rather tasty. Not much to choose from
around here. Rule of thumb: if you're in NJ, any local place with the
name "White ____" (fill in the blank, so long as it's not "Castle")
makes a good, trashy burger.
Never ate chicken sandwiches I didn't prepare myself. Seen too many of
my friends get salmonella/food poisoning from eating FF chicken patties.
Tacos/Burritos - gotta give it to Q'doba. Good value, fresh components,
although the tacos can get messy. Their burritos are pretty dman big.
Plus they use whole, unmashed black beans. There's Baja Fresh around
here too, but I've yet to visit one. The only other option is TB. Yep...
But honestly, I make the best tacos and burritos around here, right in
my kitchen. And fast!
Subs - Subway veggie delight for me. Everything on it. Lots of hot
mustard and vinaigrette. Their restaurants really don't smell as bad as
they used to. Maybe they read Usenet?
Pizza... ughhh. Most chain pizza is abominable when compared with even a
half-decent local pizzeria, and we have lots of great local places here.
When I see a Domino's delivery car in my neighborhood I wonder who the
tasteless fool is who ordered that crap. When I'm on the road I'll eat
at a Sbarro's. It's not too bad. But the worldwide proliferation of
major chain "pizza" is a great tragedy.
Also been eating at Panera occasionally, with all the yuppie lunch crowd
scum. Some of their stuff is pretty good, but a little pricey. I like
their Mediterranean sandwich. The hummus is well spiced for chain fare.

feeling......enchiladas. Me thinks me wants some pork enchiladas. I've got

Arby's Chicken Cordon bleu, CRISPY CRISPY CRISPY, don't ever make the

I'm not suggesting that you're wrong, Jerry, I'm just saying that I'm
surprised considering their competition, unless McD's has really pushed to
go "lean".
What I mean about competition is take a look at what other fast-food burger
joints are serving. McD's needs to up their ante a bit!

I've only had the crispy Chicken Cordon Bleu as well. Even when I make
Chicken Cordon Bleu at home, I bread and sautee the chicken.

They did used to have them. I don't know if they still do. The tacos
aren't listed on their website. I, personally have never tried BK's tacos,
but always wanted to give them a shot. I've looked up Taco John's and it
looks "okay", if a little limited. I think I'd choose Taco Bell over Taco
John's. (Not that it matters, the closest Taco John's is 47 miles away.)

I'm going to get a pizza tonight, gosh darn it. I've got to get another
blood test today, so after the test I'm going to treat myself to a pizza.
I'm going to go local, though. There's a decent place in town called
Manolo's that has a brick, wood-fired pizza oven. I'm still contemplating
my toppings. :-D (I plan in advance.)

Yeah, Culvers is basically Midwestern, although there are a few in Texas and
Arizona, believe it or not. I think McD's fries have gone downhill since
they switched to a non-trans fat for their frying oil, but that's just me.
I like seasoned curly fries, myself. Oh, and if anyone knows of a place
that has a real onion ring, and I mean *not* concentrated dehydrated onions
shaped into a ring and battered and fried, then I'd be up for a suggestion
on where to go. (We can make decent ones at home, but it sure makes a
mess!)

Best value? Taco Bell maybe? They've got 10 value items on their menu.
McDonald's has 8 items, but the double-cheeseburger, the side salad, and the
McChicken are the only main food items. Similarly, Burger King has only 8
items - if you don't count breakfast.

Kiss my ass you Jerry wannabe. Your cryptic scribblings don't change
the fact there is only 2 sizes of burger patties used by McD's, as is
evidient by their legally binding nutritional statements.
They may have changed size over the years - which is what your kiddie
scriblings are trying to point out, I think, but the patties used for
the Big Mac and hamburger have always been the same size. Same with the
QP, Big 'n Nasty, and the McD-LT.
Don't try and pull these 'Jerry Proofs' on me. Even Jerry will tell you
that there's only two sizes of burgers.

That was you? I worked at the Lake Placid Olympics, plowing and hauling
snow. Listened to the radio for 16 hours a day, 6 days a week. Got so sick
of that commercial, I swore I would find that little fucker and shove him
down a toilet! But, time has mellowed me. I now focus my rage on Jerry.
