I found this one on some website. don't know how close it is. (your
recipe sounds closer, with the 1000 island dressing.)

1 tablespoon Mayonnaise
1/8 teaspoon Lemon Juice
Dash of onion powder

That's the onion-mayo sauce, totally different from the Secret Sauce.

Two different sauces.

Jack's has a secret sauce? What burgers/items
is it used on? I always thought it was basic
mayo.

And this is Jack in the Box we're talking about?

Jack's Secret Sauce has been around for over 30 years. Well, not the same
batch :-) but that's how long its been available.

It used be the condiment used on the Bonus Jack (the answer to the Big Mac)
and was also used on the basic cheeseburger and the Jumbo Jack up until
about um five or so years ago.

Then, based on "market research" Jack determined that customers prefer
mustard and ketchup on the cheeseburger and mayo on the Jumbo Jack. Thus, no
more Secret Sauce except on request.

The Bonus Jack (sadly) was discontinued around the time that they dropped
the clown image :-(

I'm still waging a secret war with Jack, trying to convince him to bring
back the Bonus Jack, and Secret Sauce as the condiment on cheesburgers /
Jumbo Jack.

The Secret Sauce is not the same as the mayo-onion sauce. Two different
critters.

You have to ask for Secret Sauce, at least the last time I went to JITB they
still had it, but only on request.

Jack refuses to sell me a gallon of the Secret Sauce, because of his fears
that I will reverse-engineer the recipe.

Despite my best efforts he has also resisted bringing back the Bonus Jack.

He even changed his email addy so my campaign is snailmail and voicemail
now.

But, I shall prevail.....someday.

Viv la Bonus Jack!!!!!!

Try mayonnaise with french dressing, add enough french dressing to color/flaver the sauce but try not add to much to make it watery.

First off lets examine the ingredients below as listed on the little packets of the sauce itself.

SECRET SAUCE Water, soybean oil, tomato paste, high fructose corn syrup, mustard (water, distilled vinegar, mustard seed, salt, turmeric, spices), distilled vinegar, dehydrated onion, egg yolk, salt, contains less than 2% of the following, A-1(R) Steak Sauce (water, distilled vinegar, tomato paste, corn syrup, raisins, salt, herbs and spices, orange base, orange peel, dehydrated garlic, caramel color, dehydrated onion), xanthan gum, Tabasco(R) Sauce (vinegar, red pepper, salt), sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate as preservatives, spices, Worcestershire(R) Sauce (distilled vinegar, molasses, corn syrup, water, salt, caramel color, garlic sugar, spices, tamarind, natural flavor and sulfiting agents), natural flavor, oleoresin paprika

The first five ingredients Water, soybean oil, tomato paste, high fructose corn syrup sound really familiar together. Yup you guessed it -that's ketchup (minus vinegar, onion powder, salt, and spice) . They spell out mustard next. Then is vinegar-that belongs to ketchup. Now comes dehydrated onion which is typical in many of the fast food burger chains. Next ingredient- egg yolk????? Well I' get to that later. Next is salt, that belongs to the ketchup list.

Now comes a key factor in duplicating this sauce from its rather formidable list of ingredients. Contains less than 2% of the following. Simply put we have already examined MORE than 98% of what makes up the sauce. The rest of the list boils down A-1 Steak Sauce, Tabasco Sauce, and Worcestershire Sauce.

Back to the egg yolk for a second. The egg yolk is used to bind the sauce together much like a custard or hollandaise sauce does. Thats what I did. it was indistinguishable form the real stuff.

On the double boiler
Jack In The Box Secret Sauce

1 cup ketchup

1/2 cup yellow mustard

2 heaping Tbls dehydrated chopped onions re-hydrated in warm water and drained

1/4 teas. A-1 Steak Sauce

2 or 3 drops Tabasco Pepper Sauce

1/8 teas Lea & Perrin's Worcestershire Sauce

1/2 cup water

two egg yolks stirred to break up the yolks

Combine all ingredients in the top of a double boiler and slowly heat over a medium flame stirring constantly. Stir until sauce thickens to the correct consistence-like a mayonnaise. Be careful to not allow the sauce to boil or the eggs will curdle.

I always thought that it was ketchup and mustard mixed to a certain proportion. I always try to get that proportion. It's mostly mustard. All this talk about French dressing? I don't think there's a drop of it in there. And French dressing is ketchup and mayo. I don't know. It's still a secret.

I think D Coffey is right. I haven't tried this, but I remember the mayo onion sauce. It was terrific with their old chicken sandwich. But I have to agree with the question - Jack has a "secret sauce"? Maybe on their Jumbo Jack, but I don't remember it on anything.

There was a 1/4 hamburger in the late 80s or early 90s that was basically the meat, bun, pickle, and this white sauce with onion in it. What was the name of that burger? Can you still get it made that way? Customize the jumbo jack to have only pickle, onion, and that white sauce stuff? I been craving this, please advise thanks!

I enjoyed reading this! Thank you! However, I've always made my own....Mustard, Ketchup and Mayonnaise. Add DILL Relish. Still not good as "Secret Sauce" however, to me its better than the 4 condiments separate!

The onion mayo was used on the "hot ham and cheese". They should bring that sandwich back!!!

THe only "hot ham and cheese" I tasted was Hardee's, but I really wish they
used cheddar sheese instead of that white flavor they have.

BURGERDUDE'S CLONE OF JACK-IN-THE-BOX SECRET SAUCE

1 T dried minced onions
1 Tbsp corn syrup
1 Tbsp ketchup
2 Tbsp mayo
1 Tbsp prepared yellow mustard
1/8 tsp worcestershire sauce
1/8 tsp A1 steak sauce
1 tsp white vinegar
4 drops of Tabasco sauce

Soak the onions in enough hot water to cover them for 5 minutes, and drain. Mix onions and all the other ingredients together.

Makes 1/2 cup.

Like I said, I think this needs a little adjustment, but I got tired and hungry and this is close. It was cheeseburgers for dinner last night for me (yeah, life's rough, but someone has to do it)!

-=BurgerDude

This is the stuff they used to put on Bonus Jack burgers.

I worked at J in B in 1966 when the menu was very small. Cheese burgers, hamburgers, tacos, onion rings, french fries and a Chicken dinner (Chicken thigh and fries) and Shrimp Dinner ( Butterfly Shrimp and fries). That's it. The secret sauce came in big Beer Keg like containers and was near the Bobs Big boy taste. Not quite 1000 island . I loved it.

I also worked at JIB in the early 80’s. Secret sauce was on the hamburger, cheeseburger, and Bonus Jack. The Jumbo Jack had a different sauce that was more like the thousand island and mayo previously mentioned. JIB still has the secret sauce in packets; you just need to ask for it (and ask for a couple extra packs when you take your food). ; )
