So I tried one. It actually tasted very good in my opinion. I got the
cheese and peppers mix as well
for an extra 80 cents. hot with bite, liked the peppers (the receipt calls
it a relish)
I don't think the claim that girl makes in the radio ad that it maybe the
best beef in the city is true.
Also they claim to make it fresh which is bs because my sandwich was still
frozen in a penny sized spot.
All in all I liked it though and I had another one about 4 hours later
that wasn't frozen.
The color looked like normal roast beef so the ads i saw may have been a
little wacked.

I'll give it a shot if it ever shows up here. Sounds pretty good and a
nice departure from all of those burgers.

OK, I'll try one and judge it against Johnnies.

It's gotta suck worse than Brown's Chicken's attempt.

A beef sandwich that is good is a delicate kinda thang. Once off the
fulcrum of good and behind acceptable is shit like what a compnay brings
into a luncheon for 40 employees. Chewy shit on Gonnella with sides of
salty sweet peppers and some jarred hot peppers that have no flavor.

I take a few bites and usually say "at least they tried cause it's
Gonnella....."

I haven't tried one yet but will report back when I do, I'm leary about
their claims also.

On a related note dealing with fast food burger joints, one recommendation I
have is with a place I rarely step into, Burger King. Personally I can't
stand the thought of walking into one and any specialty sandwich they've had
in the last 10 years has been poor in my opinion.

Except for now.

After a few samplings this past month I do have to say the item they refer
to as the "steakburger" is definetly not traditional for Burger King, it's
really a pretty good sandwich and doesn't taste like their other burgers at
all. It's almost out of place.

Maybe it's just the splash of A1 sauce on it but it's almost addicting in
flavor and freshness.

Just wish they would do something about their fries.

I don't think our BK has tacos, but I'm not sure. I went to the BK website
and tacos aren't listed on the main menu, so it may be a regional thing???

but it sucks. The Wendy's by me doesn't have anyone that speaks fluent
english, so you're screwed if you want something that's not a button on the

screw up your order.

I'm better off grilling steaks at home.

Same with me, which is why BK is not part of my fast food rotation. But
the steakburger does sounds good. You got me thinking about trying one
today after work (no I don't want fries with that.)

As to the comparison with tacos at Taco Bell, I don't see the
comparison. Taco Bell has no similar product.

Now Jack in the Box, that's another matter. They serve a very similar
product (and have for at least 50 years, as I was eating them in 1958).

The BK tacos are slightly better than the JitB versions.

I think most fast food places do a regional thing. The Chicago area has a
very large hispanic population, ergo...tacos.

Here in the south, we donn't have many hispanics in my area, and the BK's
don't serve tacos.

However, you can get fried chicken from McDonalds, and they have grits and
biscuits & gravy on the breakfast menu.

I'd kill for *one* taqueria around here. What mexican restaurants we have,
owned by mexicans, ran by them, with mexican staff, admit they tone down the
spicing for gringo tastes.

My impression is that they were the same: corn tort. and ralston-
purina "beef filling".

You have crappy taste. BK's tacos are a knock off of JitB's. Pieces
of shit with process American cheese. Taco Bell is nowhere near
*that* crappy.

They are competing in some markets for White trash clientele who would
otherwise go to Jack in the Box for their White trash "tacos."

Why would ANYONE who lives in a city replete with GREAT mom&pop
burrito joints order a BK taco? You are worthy to be slopped like a
pig.

Civilized Chicagolanders opt for one of the many fine taquerias, a few
of which are right there on Milwaukee.

Holey Mackerel. I had my first Jack taco about 7 years ago?
It was the first and last one I ever bought. Do they still put whatever the
hell that shit was in the taco shell? What the hell was that shit? Damn
they could have at least filled it up with lettuce

I always wondered WTF was "grill flavor". Once a month, all the
employees at the Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate plant bring in their weber
grill grill's, and they scrape them into some big vat?

I've always wondered where the meat from both JitB and BK tacos
comes from. I'm guessing it is from hamburger meat that has been
in their warmers too long to be served to customers, in the same
way Wendy's takes the meat that has been sitting on the grill too
long and makes chili with it.

I know for a fact (because an unfortunate friend of mine got a job at JitB
and told me) that JitB purees their ground beef with beans which is why it's
slop. Probably more beans than meat, whatever, but it comes pre-mixed,
pre-seasoned, is frozen and then defrosted. They slap the cold meat mixture
in a corn tortilla, add in a little cheese, deep fry it all in a big tub of
lard, take it out when it's crispy, and then toss on some lettuce, tomato
and a sprinkling of cheese on the top to make it "pretty". JitB has to have
the greasiest tacos I've ever had, but when you're on a drunken binge, they
sure taste good. LOL.

Huh, I watched JitB tacos being made on Maui and I saw them slap the slop in
the shell and fry them, but maybe different places do things differently.

I always only used one packet of sauce per taco, but that's just me. :~)

I also see a lot of Mexicans in my area now, near Santa Cruz, inhaling

turkey breast, al fresco style" are utterly inauthentic.

And pureeing the ground beef with beans instead of with dog is a step
up from muy autentico Tijuana taco cart tacos. A lot of the Mexicans
living in America probably have pet dogs now, so not having to have muy
autentico dogmeat in their tacos is probably a win for them as well for
us.

Thanks, Bryan, but way ahead of you on that one.

Nothing close to me, but I did locate a chicken processer about 40 miles
away, and, yes, they have mexicans, and there is a mexican grocery store
there, but no taquerias.

I'm just going to knuckle down and learn authentic cooking, I think.
