Why, thank ya sir! That was our first, and only time out, so you can imagine
how thrilled we were to do as well as we did! We ended up placing 5th over
all. Floated home afterwards...<G> Unfortunately, that is the only sanctioned
cookoff in all of Colorado, so our chances to compete are not as often as we'd
like. But we're hoping to get more in the state, and also have the time and
money to travel to some of the closer cookoffs in neighboring states.
Hopefully this summer we'll make at least 3 others.
I take it that you compete also? What team?
Thanks for the "Congrats!"

Pig In! Pig Out!
The job I used to have required me to work 6-7 days a week. No time for
competition. The job I have now seems to be able to "allow" me to take weekends
off. If I can find a sponsor to off set the costs I could probably talk my
partner into trying it. We attended one this summer just to check it out and we
both agreed we could do better ribs then some we tasted. That doesn't mean we
would be competetive! It seemed to us there was too much attention paid to the
presentation and not enough to the product. We have talked about organizing
something on our own in conjunction with some of the surrounding small towns
festivals in the summer. Maybe that will be our start? See you in the Bull
Sheet.......... Hogrster

From what I understand, the reason that so much attention is paid to the
presentation is to make sure that no entry has any distinguishable marks or
style, so as to make it identifiable to a judge as belonging to a certain
contestant. That way, all entries are completely anonymous, and no favoritism
can take place. Even the box that is submitted can have no finger prints,
smudges, or scratches on it. If it does, then it's automatically disqualified.
As far as having the lettuce in the box, that is an option, and not a
requirement. But, how a dish, or meal, is presented, can affect the overall
perception of the food. Food that looks good, tastes good! <G>
Good luck in organizing a cookoff in your area. In fact, I don't know if
you're aware of the upcoming NBBQA Conference & Trade Show in Arlington, TX in
February, but they are offering a seminar on organizing a cookoff. This would
probably be a good seminar for you to attend.
Have a Q-licious Day!
