Hi,
Yesterday I came across something called ling (link?) gok at a large
grocery outlet. It is hard and nut-like, dark brown, and shaped like
a Texas longhorn head, that is, it has two sharp horn-like
projections. It is two to three inches across the 'horns'. Split in
half, each half looks like the claw of an eagle. Inside is a very
white, fairly brittle meat. There's not much taste to it, and it's a
bit woody in texture. Does anyone have any information about these
things - what they are, how to cook them and so on?

I believe it is from a water caltrop, it grows in the water like pond.
similar like lotus, water lily.

When I was growing up, my grandmother used to boil them in the water with
the shell on. We eat them as a snack in the afternoon back from school.

I never like it myself, it is just like what you said, tastless...

Strung point to point they make a really wonderful haloween-style

As for eating them, don't bother.
