Can't you folks start new threads instead of piggybacking on the "Starving"
thread? Is that so hard? I'm sure some of you folks are saying interesting
things but the "Starving" thread turned me off so much I skip right through it
now.

Well, yes. That's why I decided to make this suggestion. My newsreader also
ignores it, but it shows that there were initially over 300 posts last time I
looked at this newsgroup -- all had been blocked because they had "Starving"
in the title.

Well then wouldn't this thread (that you originated) be blocked as well?

All these posts with "Starving" in the Subject line are making me hungry

AFU has had quite a number of these protean (or, in this case,
protein) threads through the years. The trouble with changing the
Subject line is that not everybody thinking about the new topic will
follow along (though some threading news clients will piece it all
together in some useful way); and the trouble with starting a
genuinely new thread is that not everyone who's interested will pick
it up, or see the antecedents of what you're writing.

Google Groups (yeah, yeah, I know...) is doing something even less
helpful and doubtless quite interesting at a technical level: for the
most part it isn't threading the "Starving" discussion at all, but
instead has spewed it out as so many individual postings.

Google Groups seems to be threading other discussions in AFU and
elsewhere just fine; not sure why this discussion, and only it, went
all nothing can go wrong go wrong go wrong on us.

For various reasons I keep an archive, unfiltered, of this group. It
currently has 6664 posts. Blame Keith F. Lynch who cross-posted it to
rec.arts.sf.written in the 6th post of the thread.

Mea culpa. It seemed like a good idea at the time. A query was
posted in afu indicating that the question had been asked in rasfw.
So I crossposted the answer to both groups.

If it's any consolation, the majority of posts in the thread(s) are no
longer being crossposted.
