"'At the time [May 1973] he was working for the Flower Ranch (north of
Sweetwater [Texas] in Marlboro country), breaking a new horse their foreman
couldn't handle,' Kent said. Bigun decided to ride the new horse until it
broke. The horse was troublesome, and that night Bigun did not come back."
He and the horse were found under water in a stock tank; "Bigun had hoof prints
on one eye and behind his ear. The blows by the horse could have killed him",
or he could have drowned.
P.S. The Marlboro cowboy smoked Kools except when being photographed for the
famous Marlboro TV commercials.

Hold on, here, you mean there really *is* a Texas A & M?

Surgeon General's Warning: Smoke cigarettes and you *may* get trampled
to death by a horse.
Steve "causal link" Austin
His son Kent is clueless. There was more than one Marlboro cowboy, and
at least one *did* die of lung cancer.

There have been quite a number of Marlboro men. At least one of
them died from emphysema -- if you want to spend a rainy weekend
finger-grepping the newspaper archives, look in the 1986-87 range
(for other reasons, I vividly remember where I was when I read
the article, and can figure out roughly when that must have been).
I'm not a doctor, and don't even play one on TV, but I think of
emphysema as so highly correlated with smoking that you're lucky
if the patient doesn't light up in the oxygen tent and blow the
roof off.
One of the more recent ones, Christian Herron (sp?), has caught
some kind of the never-get-overs and goes around to schools,
lecturing against various life-truncating pleasures to which
teenagers are especially vulnerable. Haven't heard him myself,
but the kid says it's quite a riveting experience.

+ The Marlboro Man smoked Kools and named his son Kent. Perfect.
He probably had a Chesterfield, smoked for a Lark, and had a relative
in the old country who was a Viceroy.

Sounds like being the Marlboro Man is dangerous to your health (that
is, if you inhale...If you don't, you can run for President).

This has gone around before but part of the confusion may come from the fact
that there were/are several Marlboro men. Bigun may have been one of the more
photogenic cowboys but he wasn't the only one.
Hans
Christian Herron, a homosexual, has AIDS and lectures high schoolers on
the practice of safe sex. He was the Marlboro man during the seventies
His lectures are indeed riveting and he is to be commended for his
efforts. Don't believe he gives anti-smoking talks though...

First they came for the fourth amendment, but I said nothing since I wasn't a drug dealer.
Then they came for the second amendment, but I said nothing because I'm not a gun owner.
Then they came for the sixth amendment, but I kept quiet since I knew I wasn't guilty.
Finally they came for the first amendment, and by then it was too late to say anything at all.

Perhaps Kent knows more than hes letting on. Perhaps he called more than
one Marlborough man father...
