Over in alt.folklore.urban, the question came up as to whether Jamie
Lee Curtis was "born a man." I seem to recall hearing that she was
a Kleinfelter female -- i.e. XXY genotype.

Can anybody corroborate this, esp. with references?

Thanks -- and please crosspost reply to alt.folklore.urban!

I'm not a TV or movie watcher, so I'm not sure who this Jamie Lee Curtis is,
but unless JLC performs in (>= medium)-core porn, how come you're so sure of
the _phenotype_? I mean, I guess you've seen JLC's breasts. What else?

Certainly not Klinefelter's Syndrome at least.

From "McGraw Hill Encyclopedia of Encyclopedia and Technology":

...
"When the sex chromosomes are involved, individuals may arise who are XXY or
XO (the latter having a single unpaired X chromosome) Abnormal males
with Klinefelter's syndrome (small testes, reduced expression ^^^^^
of male secondary sex characteristics, long limbs) have been found to
posess 47 chromonsomes...The conclusion is that these Klinefelter individuals
must have 2 X and 1 Y chromosome."

XO individuals are females, usually infertile with underdeveloped secondary
sexual characteristics (Turner's Syndrome)

Neither sound like Jamie Lee Curtis.

We don't need _that_ much corroboration.

I think she has Testicular Feminization (if memory serves). As I recall
Klinefelter's patients are also mentally retarded. I'll see if I can dig
up a journal article from the medical library on this and post my findings.

A friend of mine had Turner's Syndrome and became involved in the
national foundation for it. Some but *far from all* of the women with
this problem are retarded, and many are sexually immature. Another
characteristic is shortness (definitely not Jamie Lee Curtis!)
My friend was very bright, physically mature, somewhat round, and
stood 4'6". (She's still alive, as far as I know, we've just lost
touch.) She was VERY upset that parents who were receiving prenatal
diagnoses of this condition were being given such horror stories and
counselled to have abortions. Except for the retardation, which is
only the severe cases, most of the other symptoms (for lack of a
better word) are correctable with hormone therapy.
(there are some real tough questions there, about terminating a
pregnancy because of an increased percent chance of a non-fatal
problem...but they aren't alt.folklore material)
