My husband and myself have been living in this apartment for just over a
month now, and it is truely a wonderful place (discounting roaches & the
problem with parking) because not only can we afford it, the back stairs
of the building lead right down to the beach. When I first saw the old
brick building, circa 1922, I laughed and said that it looked like
something out of a Stephen King novel. Luckily, our experiences have
been much less traumatic than anything you will find in a King novel.
It started the day we really moved in, the day we had all of the
furniture delivered. I kept seeing a pale lady standing in the lobby of
the building, looking out the window into the distance. I would glance
at the window, glance away, and then when I looked back she would be
gone. This happened twice that morning. At the time, I was over tired
and stressed and wrote it off as such. I have a habit of seeing and
hearing things when I get in such a state, but more on that later.
The apartment is set up oddly, but it is very comfortable. The main
problem I have had has been a dark (dark as in not light, not "darkly
ominous") thin figure that we have only seen in the doorway that leads
from the kitchen to the bedroom. I first noticed it when I was alone
and preparing a snack for myself. I noticed it out of the cornor of my
eye, and it stayed put as I turned to face it. As I faced it fully it
faded away. At other times, the figure would dart back and forth across
the doorway. This would happen at various times during the day and
evening, with a variety of lightings.
I was willing to write all of this off as "one of those things..." until
my husband called me at work one day to tell me a boxed pack of tarot
cards had been "thrown" from a shelf in the bedroom. The box had broke
open and several cards had fallen face up, most relating to a woman,
loss, and sorrow. I finally told him about what I had been seeing to
which he replied, with a big sigh of relief, he had been seeing the same
thing when he was working in the kitchen.
The most dramitic thing so far was the incident with the latch on the
window. Because one of the windows in the front room opens on to a fire
escape the landlord installed a special lock on the window that requires
a key to open. The lock is new, stiff and takes a bit of work to get
open. One evening, we were just sitting down to watch tv, after
discussing what had been happening about the apartment. My husband had
made some joke about whatever was here had better damn well start
thinking about helping with the rent, when the bolt popped out of the
lock with a very distinctive CLACK. I DO NOT like to be startled
(people who learn quickly usualy only startle me once). With out really
thinking I yelled "You can stay if you like, but tricks like that will
have you out on the street!" I re-locked the lock and it hasn't moved
since. Actually, niether one of us has seen the figure in the doorway
since that evening, but the cats still stare occaisionally at that area.
Compared to some of the other experiences I have read here, it is rather
tame, but still interesting.

It takes on a whole new meaning when someone else also admits to
experiencing things too. Sounds like you have a least one resident
ghost.
Thanks for a really interesting post and do keep us posted on any
further events, past or present. :)

Nothing's tame when it comes to seeing things that aren't
supposed to be there. Glad you had another there to see it
too.
Welcome! You can sit by me over here. :) Every little bit
though, I run off and go chasing things that can never be
caught. Hee hee!
