I recently bought a flute in second hand shop for not very much money. It is
marked
Ida Maria Grassi-Made In Italy, silver plated with a few minor dints and
scratches that only showed up when I polished it. Has anyone heard of this
brand and is it worth spending money on to have it repadded (it needs a
firmer pressure to stop leaks on some keys).
It is a much better instrument than the nickel plated Dolfin that I used to
play about ten years ago (but so was a tin whistle).
At the very least it got me playing again and I'm still very bad.

It depends on your repairman. I've been some places that would charge
you $30 for a repad and $25 for the spring and rod adjustments. But
then, the place I go now wouldn't charge for the adjustments at all,
maybe charge $7 for the repad, and add a chemical dip for free.
So, is it worth it? Depends on how much they charge you. I would say
probably.
