Psychiatrist Arrested On Medicaid Fraud Charges
MIAMI -- A psychiatrist practicing in North Miami Beach has been arrested on
charges of defrauding the state's Medicaid program, Attorney General Bob
Butterworth and Miami-Dade County State Attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundle
announced today.
Dr. Gregg L. Friedman, 39, of 190 Golden Beach Drive, Golden Beach, was arrested
March 27 and charged with one count of organized scheme to defraud and one count
of grand theft. Both charges carry a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a
$10,000 fine. Friedman was also charged with 18 counts of Medicaid fraud
punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine for each count.
Friedman, whose practice is located at 1400 Miami Gardens Drive on North Miami
Beach, is accused of billing the state's Medicaid program for services never
rendered and for individual psychiatric sessions when group sessions were
actually provided. Between January 1997 and December 1998, Friedman billed the
program more than $1 million and received $207,000, according to the officials.
Assisting in the arrest by the attorney general's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit
were members of the Miami-Dade Police Department Warrants Bureau.
