Two colleagues of Alfred Kinsey ( the modern day father of
'sexology') reported on their research in the 1940's on the lifetime
experiences of male homosexual behaviors for sexual pleasure. The
results are as follows: 83% engaged in oral penis sex, 68% in anal
intercourse, 59% in rimming (insert the tongue in or around the
anus), 10% in urine sex or "golden showers" ( drinking or being
splashed with urine), 22% in sadomasochistic sex ( torture or painful
sex ), 61% engaged in public or orgy sex, and 31% had sexual
relationship with minors. Source: Gebhard & Johnson, The Kinsey Data,

In the largest survey of lifetime experiences of "gay" men ever
conducted, 99% engaged in oral penis sex. 91% had anal intercourse.
83% engaged in "rimming". 22% enjoyed "fisting". 23% admitted to
"golden showers". Overall 76% admitted to public or group sex with
41% saying they had sex in public restrooms, 60% reported sex in gay
bath houses. There were positive testimonials with no apparent shame
from those having sex with (animals) Labrador retrievers, cows and
horses: " My first sexual experience...was...with a cow - not bad
but boys are better." Most homosexuals have had some experience with
oral-anal sex, sadomasochism, group orgies, bondage, or transvestism.
22% to 37% of homosexual men indulge in painful or violent sex and 4%
would eat the feces of the sexual partner for gratification. 23% had
sex with boys. Contemporary gay writers have even suggested that
there is something revolutionary about both promiscuity and public
sex. 40% of homosexual men reported a past history of Gonorrhea and
69% of gay men report a history of Pubic Lice or "Crabs". Scabies is
reported by 22% of homosexual men. Scabies are mites that cause

As more people with AIDS survive longer, many are confronting yet
another serious health problem: cancer. Malignant tumors,
particularly Kaposi's sarcoma and certain cancers of the lymph system,
have been common among AIDS patients since the disease was first
recognized in 1981. But now the array of cancers is broadening in
mysterious ways. Once rare cancers are appearing more often. And
strange geographical patterns of certain cancers are emerging. An
emerging theory is that most AIDS-related cancers are somehow linked
to viral infections. Dr. Richard Klausner, the director of the
National Cancer Institute, said that at least 30% of people with AIDS
also developedd cancer. Studies have definitely linked five cancers
with HIV infection: Kaposi's sarcoma (skin and internal organs);
non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (lymph system); squamous cell cancer of the
conjunctiva (eye); and in situ (early stage) carcinomas of the cervix
and anus. Studies have also suggested an increase in lung, lip,
testicular and other cancers. Most perplexing is that many HIV
infected people are also infected with either hepatitis B or C (gay
men and IV drug users), but often do not develop liver cancer. Dr.
Alexandra M. Levine, an AIDS and cancer expert at the University of
Southern California, said she was "extremely worried that we will see
more and more cancer" among HIV-infected patients. It was the sudden
appearance of the Kaposi's sarcoma cancer in large numbers of gay men
in the New York city that led doctors to recognize what is now called
AIDS. Until then, Kaposi's sarcoma had been rare, and few experts
suspected that it was related to a virus. Further studies suggested
that infection with H.H.V.-8 (herpes) was needed before Kaposi's
sarcoma developed. Source: Lawrence K. Altman, M.D., "Surviving with
AIDS is one problem, cancer is yet another," The New York Times; May

The latest news in the fight against AIDS is that some doctors are
administering medication to prevent AIDS infection. If those doctors
are correct, some lives will be saved. This, of course, is reason to
celebrate. Yet the history of the AIDS crisis suggests that there may
also be reason for concern. Ever since the connection was made
between HIV infection and sexual activity, many doctors and health
officials have agreed with gay-rights advocates that the use of
condoms amounts to "safe sex". The correct term is really "safer sex."
Condoms don't eliminate the possibility of infection, they mostly
reduce it. The only truly safe options, as leaders of the religious
right regularly point out, are monogamy and abstinence. It has long
been recognized that "safe sex" rhetoric is potentially disastrous,
because it leads to inculcate a false sense of security: " If I use a
condom, I'll be ok." But if the public (gay men) perceives
morning-after pills, together with condoms, as part of a new, improved
"safe sex" package, the result may be reinforcement of the potentially
dangerous idea, that any kind of sex with anybody at any time is
indeed safe. Source: Bruce Bawer, "The morning after is too late for
safe sex," The New York Times; June 15, 1997.
The AIDS epidemic exploded into the prison system, affecting many
people who were already seropositive for HIV and creating an ideal
medium in which the virus could spread - a setting in which same-sex
encounters are common and drug use widespread. The 1994 report of
about 5000 AIDS cases in state and federal prisons reflects an
increase of 59% over the 1992-1993 data and describes the "highest
concentration found anywhere in the US of persons already infected
with HIV." Moreover, experts agree that these numbers represent an
underreporting of the problem. AIDS is now the leading cause of death
among black men between the ages of 25 to 44. But not all HIV-positive
persons remain behind bars. In 1991, the revolving doors of the state
correctional institutions in New York discharged 4000 of their 8000
HIV-infected inmates back into the community. Source: ( The

16%. Persons that were positive to the antibodies to herpes simplex
virus-2 were from the following indicators: a history of hepatitis A,
greater than 5 sexual partners in the past six months and history of
gonorrhea, which were all independently associated with HHV-8

which indicates that infectious syphilis among men who have sex with

MSM attending public health clinics. The proportion of cases in MSM
increased from 21% ( 4 of 19) in 1997 to 85% (75 of 88) in 1998 and
1999. 67 had HIV and two others were HIV seropositive near the time
syphilis was diagnosed. In addition, cases of rectal gonococcal
infection in males reported by providers outside the STD clinic
increased from 6 cases in 1997 to 25 cases in 1998 and 13 cases during
January-June 1999. The median age of the 427 MSM who received a

Researches at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
surveyed nearly 2000 HIV-negative people to access their attitude
about maintaining safer sex. They recruited just under 700 out of the
2000 from gay bars who were men who have sex with men (MSM). A major
finding of this study concerned the relationship between reported
attitude to HIV and reported risk behavior. There was concordance
between attitude and behavior among MSM: 71% of those who were less
concerned about HIV reported receptive anal intercourse, compared with
43% of those who reported they did not feel less concerned. Further,
these results suggest a very high rate of risk-taking in MSM who
report that they are willing to take more risks on account of current
treatment options. Source: Lehman Js, Hecht FM, Wortley P, Lansky A,

Paul Denning from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) reviewed data that demonstrates a very disturbing trend in men
who have sex with men (MSM) in the United States. There are over
500,000 MSM (homosexual men) with HIV infection reported through June
1999 - more than any other risk group. HIV prevalence rates among
cohorts of MSM in San Francisco and Seattle approach 10%, and there is
abundant evidence that after years of declining incidence of STDs in
MSM, rates have been increasing in many cities over the past 4 years.
Rates of rectal gonorrhea and chlamydia have essentially doubled in
Seattle, Chicago, Portland and Washington, DC. Is the stage being set
for a resurgence of HIV transmission in MSM? The preponderance of
evidence says yes. The increase in STDs reflects high-risk behavior,
and this is also associated with increased HIV transmission rates. It
is likely that increases in HIV prevalence in those (gay men)
populations will be seen. HIV sentinel surveillance and reinvigorated
prevention interventions among MSM are urgently needed. Source:

The serologic testing algorithm for recent HIV seroconversions
(STARHS) study of 96,000 clients seen at STD clinics in Baltimore,
Miami, New Orleans, Houston, Denver and Los Angeles between 1991 and
1997 found that about 8% of "gay" men became infected each year, 17
times the rate found among heterosexuals. Also, a survey of 3,492
"gay" men 15 to 22 years old in Baltimore, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami,
New York, San Francisco and Seattle found that an average of 7% had
contracted HIV. STARHS testing revealed that 3% became newly infected
each year. Source: Kavin Halperin, " STARHS TREK: How quickly is HIV

Any development of a virginal microbicide should take into
consideration that it will also be used for anal intercourse, Dr. Alex
Carballo-Dieguez, of Columbia University in New York City, told
attendees at Microbicides 2000 this week. Between 1995 and 1996, a
total of 307 Latino men in New York City who reported having sex with
men were interviewed. 80% identified themselves as gay and 30% were
HIV-positive. 93% reported having receptive anal sex within the last
year and half of these subjects said that they either did not use
condoms or used them inconsistently. Source: Reuters Medical News, "

Gay and bisexual men who are HIV infected are 3 times more likely to
have unprotected sex after protease inhibitor therapy. Dr Maureen
Miller and colleagues at INSERM in Le-Kremlin-Becetre, France, studied
191 HIV-infected patients: of these, 81 were gay or bisexual men, 46
were heterosexual men and 64 were heterosexual women. The study
results are reported in the March 10th issue of AIDS, pp. 33-39.
Researches found that, "among gay or bisexual men, increases in
unprotected sexual intercourse were observed, particularly with
partners vulnerable to HIV transmission." In an interview with
Reuters Health, Dr. Miller said, "I think there is a risk that we may
see another little epidemic of HIV, particularly among gay men." As
to reasons for this increase after therapy, Dr. Miller said that gay
and bisexual men "may have felt safer, they may have felt healthier
and felt like becoming sexually active again, maybe after strictly a
period of oral sex." Source: Reuters Medical News, " HIV-Infected

The prevalence of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions and
squamous carcinoma is increasingly high among homosexual men,
according to Dr. Stephen Goldstone, a general surgeon in New York
City. Regular anal Pap testing or human papillomavirus (HPV) screening
may be useful in this population, he says. Dr. Goldstone reports that
of the 200 homosexual men referred to him for surgical treatment
during the past 2 years, 157 had condyloma, 4 had anal squamous
intraepithelial lesions and 39 presented with other benign anorectal
disorders. Anal Pap testing of the 131 HIV-positive and 69
HIV-negative patients revealed high-grade squamous intraepithial
lessions in 53%, acording to Dr. Goldstone. The doctor reported
that among the (gay) men without gross evidence of condyloma, the
prevalence of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions or squamous
carcinoma was 44%. Source: Reuters Medical News, " Prevalence of

Long-term HIV infection increases the incidence of anal cancer among
homosexual men in Australia by 34 times according to Dr. Andrew
Grulich, of the National Center in HIV Epidemiology in Sydney,
Australia. The Australian study also found that lip cancer was
increased by 2.5 times, seminoma by 2.7 times and Hodgkin's disease by
4 fold in HIV- infected "gay" men. " The rates of anal cancer and
HIV were higher in our study than US rates because 85% of the
HIV-infected people in our study are gay men," said Dr. Grulich. The
study used Australian national data on HIV/AIDS reported between 1983
and 1999, which were linked to data on cancer reported between 1982
and 1998. The researches also found high rates of hepatitis B and C
among HIV-infected "gay" men in Australia. Source: Reuters Medical

During June-August 1998, the Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program of
the Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) identified four cases of
TB among young black men. Three of these men also had HIV infection.
The four reported belonging to a social network of transgender persons
( i.e. persons who identify with or express a gender and/or sex
different from their biologic sex). The four patients were also
identified as men who have sex with men (MSM). Some network members
dressed as women and participated in dance and fashion competitions
known as "balls." These social networks include "houses" (i.e., a
guild providing a social framework for young MSM and transgender
persons) that exist in many large U.S. cities. All four also were
commercial sex workers (prostitutes). An additional 22 TB patients
were identified and linked to this cluster through interviews. The
median age was 24 years ( range: 20-47 years) and 22 (85%) were men.
16 case-patients (62%) were known to have HIV infection or AIDS when
TB was diagnosed. Because of the travel by some of the Baltimore
case-patients, transmission of the outbreak strain was suspected in
New York City (NYC). Five of the seven TB patients identified in NYC
were HIV-positive, and three have died. Both outbreaks were related
to one another. The above information was a reprint from the CDC's

Gay men are having more unsafe sex despite the continuing threat of
HIV, according to research. A study published in the British Medical
Journal is the first to report an increase in unsafe sex among gay men
in England since the start of the HIV epidemic 20 years ago. Over a
period of 3 years, more than 6,500 homosexual men - aged 15 to 78
years - responded to a questionnaire about their sexual behavior. The
survey shows a significant increase in the reporting of unprotected
anal intercourse, particularly among men under the age of 25. In an
accompanying editorial, Dr. Andrew Grulich, from the National Center
in HIV Epidemiology, Sydney, Australia says a similar trend has been
reported in Australia and the US. Will Nutland, a health promotion
expert with the HIV charity The Terrence Higgins Trust said..." In an
ideal world we could distinctly reduce HIV transmission by all men
using a condom every time they have sex, but that is not realistic
health promotion strategy." Gavin Hart, a spokesman for the National
AIDS Trust, said "We are concerned if unsafe sex is increasing among
gay men as they are still the group most at risk of (HIV) infection in
the UK." ("gay" men account for about 60% of all HIV/AIDS cases in the

to Kaposi's Sarcoma (KS) cancer. The first cohort consisted of 119
white males who acquired HIV through sex with other men. Of these, 58
patients had KS and 61 did not. The second cohort consisted of a
similar group of 131 HIV-infected men, including 61 with KS and 70
without. (Kaposi's Sarcoma is a very rare and deadly form of cancer

virus (EBV) was present in 67% of "gay" men with HIV infection and 39%
of "gay" men without HIV infection. This compared to only 6% among

recently proposed idea that EBV type 2 infection is an epidemic among
white homosexual men " and that it is sexually transmitted. The
researchers also found the EBV was more prevalent among men with
greater numbers of partners. Source: The Washington Blade, " Another

Unprotected anal intercourse appears to be on the rise among
homosexual men in the UK, particularly among younger "gay" men,
according to survey results published in the June 3rd issue of the
British Medical Journal. Similar findings have been reported in the
US. In another study released in the same week, researchers from the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia,
found that a substantial proportion of men who have sex with men and
inject drugs continue to engage in high-risk behaviors even after
being diagnosed with AIDS. The UK study found that 32% of men polled
in 1996 reported having had unprotected anal intercourse during the
previous year. The rate increased to 36% in 1997 and 38% in 1998. In
each year of the survey, the rate of unsafe sex was highest in men
younger than 25 years old. In 1998 for example, they found that 43%
of men younger than 25 reported having unprotected anal intercourse as
compared with 30% of men older than 40. The researchers surveyed men
at "gay" bars, clubs, saunas and medical clinics in London. Over the
3-year period, they survey 6,671 "gay" men. "Our results, combined
with the reported increase in gonorrhea cases among gay men and the
increasing prevalence of HIV infection (is troubling)..." the authors
concluded. The authors of the CDC survey was based on interviews with
513 men who have sex with men and who also inject drugs (MSM/IDU), who
were all diagnosed with AIDS from 1996 to 1998. The researchers found
that 76% reported having sex with a man and 43% reported having sex
with a woman during the previous 5 years. Nearly half of these men
said that they did not always wear a condom during sex, according to
the report in the June 2nd issue of the Morbidity and Morality Weekly
Report. During the same period 34.1% of men reported using injected
drugs. Of these men, 45.1% said they had shared needles. Source:

The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention, Dr. Helene D. Gayle,
MPH, warned that she's scared that new trends indicate an increase in
the deadly disease (HIV/AIDS) that is believed to currently infect
more than 850,000 Americans. Dr. Gayle tells WebMD that she is
concerned about trends that indicate AIDS rates could rise again after
years of steady decline and stability - especially due to risky
behavior among young (gay) men and women. Dr. Gayle adds that as many
as 5 million Americans are at risk of AIDS due to risky behavior.
Among the findings: Data indicating that just over 2% of the
population engage in risky behavior: unprotected sex or drug-related
risks. In addition, the San Francisco Department of Public Health
reported a striking increase in new HIV infections between 1997 and
1999. The data show increases in infection of about 8% in 1998, the
highest levels since 1991( just about all coming from the gay
community). Dr. Gayle states " I'm scared when we see increases in
rates of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). I'm scared when I see
rates for gonorrhea among gay men increasing. I'm scared when I see
the rates of AIDS cases in San Francisco - which have been declining
for six years - rise again. Dr. Gayle worries that a deadly
combination of complacency over getting AIDS and the availability of
the highly effective HIV treatments is behind a return to risky
behaviors. She cites new surveys showing that young men who have sex
with men (MSM) are engaging in unprotected sex, believing that new
drugs will reduce the risk of dying from AIDS. " We should not have to
have another generation of gay men suffer though HIV infection as a
right of passage," Dr.Gayle says. " Despite the dramatic benefits new
treatments have had in extending the lives of individuals with HIV,
the overall shortfalls of AIDS treatments are becoming increasingly
apparent, and HIV infection and risky behaviors continue at levels far
too high (in the homosexual community)." Source: Ed Susman, "AIDS
could rise again in the U.S., Statistics show - Experts say even
stable numbers can spell trouble," WebMD Medical News, Durban, South

An article appeared (7/12/00) in an issue of the Journal of the
American Medical Association (JAMA) reports that researchers
administered HIV-infection tests to 3,492 homosexual and bisexual men
age 15 to 22. The researchers found that, on average, 7% carry HIV -
a number the report terms a "high prevalence" of the infection that
produces AIDS. The report concludes... " a significant and continuing
HIV epidemic among [homosexual and bisexual males]. The results are
alarming in light of the men's youth and compared with HIV prevalence
for samples of primarily heterosexual youth in the United States," the
report states. John Hylton of the John Hopkins University School of
Hygiene and Public Health says the results are "incredibly
significant...We're talking of men who are just becoming sexually
active - men who are becoming acculturated into the gay social scene."
But the results also are disconcerting because the study's
participants presumably have been exposed to "HIV/AIDS prevention
educational initiatives while they were growing up" the study points
out...nearly 1 in 10 (9.7%) of 22-year old participants tested
positive for the virus. None (0) of the 15-year-olds was found to be
infected at the time of the testing, which extended from 1994 to 1998.
41% of those in the overall group stated they were engaging in
unprotected sex, which heightens the risk of becoming infected.
Researchers called that fact "sobering," and led the scientists to
declare: "Considering their age, the high prevalence of recent unsafe
sex, and the high HIV prevalence in [those tested], many of the
HIV-negative men are likely to become HIV-infected in the near
future." Because youths in the age groups studied are hard to
reach...They scoured dance clubs, bars, businesses, bathhouses, health
clubs, parks, beaches, and social organizations for
[homosexuals]...The half-dozen more limited studies of younger men
that were undertaken in the 1990s also found "high prevalence of HIV
and sexual risk behaviors" among homosexual and bisexual (men)... The
CDC's current records indicate that at least 61% of all HIV infections
in the United States are homosexual or bisexual men. Source: August

and peaked in popularity in the early 1990s, when raves began to

Despite the availability of effective interventions, the rate of HIV

disproportionately high compared with whites, and is not declining
significantly, according to a report by researches from the CDC. The
report states " Between 1988 and 1994, new AIDS diagnoses among

City, 48% in Los Angles and 53% in San Francisco. During the same time
AIDS incidence among white gay and bisexual men decreased in all three
cities." Source: Reuters Medical News, "HIV/AIDS Epidemic Among

Articles about the use of the party drug crystal meth by gay men
have been grabbing more than their fair share of
headlines...Counselors affiliated with Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC)
in New York City," When you're talking about drug use (in the "gay"
community), what do you mean? Taking party drugs or smoking crack?
At a nightclub or a crackhouse? This isn't something that's clear cut
or easily categorized," says Michele Fitzsimmons, outreach coordinator
for the Lesbian AIDS Project. One thing that's extremely common in
the homosexual experience, however, is the gay and lesbian bars and
clubs are often among the first places young queers feel comfortable
with their sexuality. "look at the community. It revolves so much
around bars and clubs," says Fitzsimmons. "When you're coming out,
your self-esteem might be shaky, and drugs or alcohol is a good way to
calm down." Fitzsimmons acknowledges the wide range of experiences
faces within the queer community by stating, "For some people, they
can go through thousands of dollars a week (on drugs); for other
people, it's a question of having their lights turned off or not
having groceries." Source: Micheal Siezak, "Just Can't Get Enough,"

The news about AIDS and gay men from the XIII International
Conference is sobering. David Holtgrave, director of the CDC HIV
Prevention Division notes," The evidence continues to mount that gay
men of all races remain at alarming risk for (HIV) infection. In fact,
risk may again be increasing in some (gay) communities." According to
the Dutch researchers, HIV-negative gay men under 30 years old
significantly increased unprotected anal intercourse over the last 8
years. They note a concurrent rise in anal gonorrhea rates not seen
since the early 1980s. They also note that there was a surge in risky
behavior after achieving undetectable viral loads among HIV-positive
men, and this seems to happen with casual partners rather than steady
relationships. Canadian researcher Livonia Calzavara also notes
increased incidence of new HIV infections over the '98-'99 period
compared with '96-'97. This increase is not only high among 20-29
year-olds, but there is also a dramatic rise in rates among 30-39 and
40-49 year-old gay and bisexual men. They received reports of
safer-sex fatigue from gay men who have grown weary of the constant
threat of disease. Calzavara also notes, " there is also the belief
that HIV is easily treated." For HIV-negative men, reduced concern
about HIV seems to be responsible for taking increased risks with
causal partners. Researcher Ron Stall presented data from the Urban
Men's Health Study, which surveyed gay and bisexual men from
households in four U.S. cities: San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles
and Chicago. The study found that 17% of gay men are currently
infected. Stall notes that, " (it) is particularly important and
strategic time for gay men. Failing to continue in our efforts in
curbing the epidemic could find us again with rates of 50% or higher
among gay men." In summary, the epidemic continues to spread (in the
gay community) despite CDC prevention efforts. We have the same rates
of infection (as Africa) among gay men right here in the United
States. Source: Cameron Wolf, " Breaking the Silence: Gay men report
'safe-sex fatigue,' resulting in risky behavior," Baltimore

Mounting evidence indicates that the concern about high-risk
behavior among men who have sex with men (MSM) is warranted. The
rates of new HIV infection in Calgary, Canada show that gay men are
the highest risk group, according to an article in the Calgary Herald
August 8. The Alberta Health and Wellness report show that 36% of new
HIV cases in Calgary were found among men who have sex with men, as
reported in the Herald. Part of the reason for high rates in Calgary
may be that younger gays are not concerned about getting HIV/AIDS.
Gay rights activist Stephen Lock said the availability of medicine and
the possibility of a cure may be behind the complacency, according to
the Herald. "The disease is becoming more manageable and there is a
tendency to be switched off to its deadly effects," said Lock.

An advisory committee to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will
consider changing federal regulations to allow most homosexual and
bisexual men to donate blood. Homosexual and bisexual men, who
comprise the majority of Americans infected with HIV have been banned
from donating blood for 15 years. The proposal, backed by the
American Association of Blood Banks, would allow donations by men who
say they have not had sex with other men for at least a year and who
pass 9 tests to detect the presence of HIV and other viruses, such as
hepatitis B and hepatitis C. In the early days of the AIDS epidemic,
homosexuals who donated blood or blood plasma were responsible for
infecting thousands of hemophiliacs and blood-transfusion recipients
with HIV. Currently, the risk of HIV infection from a blood
transfusion is calculated to be 1 in 800,000 screened units of blood.

A form of the herpes virus that causes an AIDS-related skin cancer
appears to spread through kissing. Herpes virus 8 was discovered 6
years ago and causes KS (Kaposi's sarcoma) skin cancer. Some had
suspected that the virus was transmitted through sexual intercourse,
but new research from the University of Washington, reported by the
New England Journal of Medicine, contradicts that idea. Dr. John Pauk
and others tested 39 gay men who were infected with the virus but did
not have KS. They found the virus in 30% of their saliva samples and
mouth swabs, compared with only 1% of anal and genital samples. When
presented, the levels were also much higher in saliva than in semen.
"The important thing is it suggests that oral-oral contact plays some
role in transmission," said Dr. Pauk. The study also found that gay
men who engaged in "deep kissing" - kissing that involves a lot of
contact with salvia - appeared to be at substantially higher risk of
catching the virus. 30-50% of HIV-infected people who catch herpes
virus 8 will eventually get KS. Experts say that the virus is largely
confined to homosexuals in the United States and that is why kissing
has not yet spread herpes virus 8 among heterosexuals. Source:

New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
in Atlanta indicate that the incidence of gonorrhea nationally is on
the rise for the first time in more than two decades. After falling
nearly 75% between 1975 and 1996, the gonorrhea rate rose 9% between
1997 and 1999. "...the rise may be also in part the result of better
HIV/AIDS treatments, which could have resulted in some people
mistakenly believing that high-risk sexual behavior no longer carries
the extreme consequences it once did," said CDC's Ronald Valdiserri.
The new surge was first observed among high-risk gay men, and it
appears to be extending to the general population. Cities in the
Mid-Atlantic and South have particularly high rates of infection, and
Baltimore came in at No. 1, with 949 cases per 100,000. Source:

Some 14% of gay men took part in unprotected anal sex, popularly
referred to as barebacking, some time in the last two years, according
to the first-ever attempt by federal health officials to quantify the
practice. The Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
(CDC) released the results of the study... some worry it
underestimates the practice of barebacking. Some 554 gay men in San
Francisco participated in the study; 35% of the men reported being HIV
positive. Questions addressing the motivations of barebackers (found
that) 80% of HIV positive and 65% of HIV negative barebackers said
that the primary reason for their behavior was greater physical
stimulation. "We hit a wall about 5 years ago in (gay) prevention,"

Conclusion:
Not only are homosexual men dying at young ages, but the amount of
STDs, alcohol and drug abuse can only lead one to believe that the
male homosexual lifestyle is anything but "gay". In fact, if we are
truly honest with ourselves, it is sad! Be a true friend to a
homosexual, help them escape the "gay" lifestyle before it is too
late. Take the path less traveled!
One study showed that 65.5 percent of gays had contracted gonorrhea;
52.5 percent hepatitis; 49.5 percent amebiasis; 40.8 percent genital
warts; 39.7percent phthirius pubis; and 36.7percent syphilis
