laptops on 'planes ?

We're due to be flying longhaul, shortly, from Manchester (UK)
to Doha ( Qatar Airways ), then Doha to Manila ( Philippine Airlines ).

Because of the length of time flying, I was wondering if it was permissible
to take on board ( & use ? ) a lap-top computer ? We will be flying
cattle-class. I am not bothered about an internet connection ( probably
not even possible, aboard an aircraft ?) .... but, also, wondered (
providing
laptops ARE allowed on board ) if they could in any way be powered up
via an onboard connection. My laptop only has about 2 hours battery charge
, before it needs charging again. I asked at our local computer spares
store
& they didn't even know if there was any kind of power-lead/transformer,
for
laptops, that can be used on 'planes .... or if 'planes had any kind of
socket &
or universal power connection for laptops.

Any info GREATLY appreciated !

Laptops are almost required these days on airlines...

Check the airlines websites, they usually list which airplanes have
laptop power connections. Most long-haul flights like that are usually
747/767/777/A340/A330 type aircraft and most of those have power
connections in Coach seats. They may not be in every row, so if you can
find what rows they are in then try to get seats in those rows.

You can get airline power adaptors for most computers at most computer
and electronics outlets, it is a pretty common item. You can get a
universal set-up that depends on adaptor plugs to fit various laptop
types or one dedicated to the specific laptop you own. For instance, if
you have a MacBook, then you are pretty much stuck with the Apple
Airline power adaptor.

You should be able to carry your laptop on board, but note that UK
governmental restrictions generally limit you to one carry on bag per
passenger.
