I was transported and treated at St. Vincent's hospital on September 11,
2001 after working at the World Trade Center during the rescue efforts.
Because of this I had the honor of being invited by Mayor Giuliani to be at
St. Vincent's Hospital on September 6, 2002 for the announcement of a new
Trauma Center that is being built. At the last minute St. Vincent's
Hospital decided that it would be fitting to name the new Trauma Center
after Mayor Giuliani.
During the event a reporter asked the Mayor Giuliani if the trauma center
should be called the Rudy Giuliani or the Rudolph Giuliani Trauma Center.
The Mayor recalled how whenever his mother would call him Rudolph he new
that he was in big trouble. His mother passed away less than 48 hours
later.
After the event Mayor Giuliani came over to me and asked me about my
physical and emotional state. He then hugged me and made it clear to me
that he truly does care. The lights and cameras were nowhere in site and he
did not have to do this. His words of support were greatly appreciated. I
know that I will be there in uniform to support Mayor Giuliani and his
Family during their time of need.
