LOL! There actually is one called white wool, but it has a pinkish
cast to it. Weird!
Dalin
Weird indeed, ewe would expect ochre, from the oil, or maybe greenish, from
rolling on the grass...
I am going to paint the bedroom screaming sky blue. Probably a mistake, it's a
north room and we may freeze our tushes off, but we like the color. Also toying
with the idea of scumbling in some cloud forms, hence the skim coat of joint
compound which (Oh, pleeezzze!) will hopefully finsih in forseeable future.
Oh, well, keeps us off the macadam and out of the byres..

If ewe like it, that's oil that matters. <g> Ok, how does a skim
coat of joint compound make clouds?

LOL! I wouldn't dare wear them! But diamonds are nice. :-)
Dalin
AAAAARGH! I deserved that, but it was still 'orrible!
well not all by itself, of course, ewe have to plan the strokes a little, making
roundish mounds and sweeps instead of neat flatnesses. Then when ewe actually
apply the paint, wet the wall first with water & use (dare I say it...) lamb's
wool pads...(gasp!) or at any rate roughly wadded rags instead of a smooth
roller. I have used the technique successfully in miniature, remains to be seen
if will work out right in full scale.

I agree! <vbg>

Ah! I understand! It's going to be textured so it looks like clouds,
but you aren't actually going to be painting white clouds on the wall.
<g> It would be pretty though if you could find a cloud border.
OTOH at $10 a roll for those things....
Good luck!
Dalin
Do you know a better way? <g> Only thing is if I don't like it I'm
stuck as it will be done when we are away so no chance to holler
"stop!" What does your wife do if she doesn't like it? We can't
return opened paint here.

My car is pearl color.....imagine it on a big wall Dalin....if it has a
luster you might not want that......not an easy job.
We almost drove a painter crazy on a custom home site where I worked. Lady
had left the painter a note saying she wanted the room he had painted the
day before a half a shade lighter.....He came stomping into the office
hollering will somebody tell me what a half a shade is!!! We stopped doing
custom colors after that.....most our homes out here come in Swiss Coffee
when completed.
Beth
No, it doesn't have any luster, it's just plain off-white and the
paint companies just like to give their paints strange names I guess.
<g> Actually when they mix them they go by numbers. I wonder how
many people don't pick a color because they don't like the name?
That's a funny story, I too wonder what a half shade lighter is.
Although I believe today on the paint chips I saw whites that were an
1/8th of a shade lighter than the one next to it.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a pearl colored car. It sounds pretty.
:-)
Dalin
I hope you like the color you pick....Tile, also, is ordered by number.
That's why when a buyer comes in the office and says that's not the tile I
ordered that they are installing...It's a nightmare for me, because all we
have on the spec sheet is the number....
Pearl and white cars are best out here.....I've had white twice, so I like
the sheen of the pearl.
1/8th of a shade....don't mention it to the painter, ok?

How perfectly Bwitish. 'Bung it on the wall'. Perfect. Unfortunately
Americans are more likely to smear the stuff on with some sort of brush
thing <lol>

Pearlescent..

When I was a child one of my aunts crocheted big, round, beautiful
tablecloths. She started with a small strawberry-like shape in the first
row, then each succeeding row of shapes got larger and larger. The color
was "ecru," a sort of brownish white, and it was my first experience with
the myriad of "off white" colors. For that reason every time I think of
"off white" the first color that comes to mind is 'ecru." Strange how
things like that stick in the mind.

Saw a 1961 Pontiac convertible done in pearl. The car had been an Indy pace
car as I recall. There was a quart of paint in the trunk. Dealer said it
was for souch -up since it was a one-time custom mix- and worth $50 in 1961
dollars.
At car shows there are now numerous pearlescent custom car colors available
from both DuPont and PPG. I saw a 1940 Ford at a show a few years ago with
a pearlescent brilliant green front that changed imperceptibly to
pearlescent white at the rear of the car. Another pearlescent/metallic
paint now available is called "chrome illusion." It looks like a hologram,
changing colors depending on the lighting and angle of view. I saw a car at
a show this spring that was at once copper and purple. Very attractive, and
very, very, expensive.

Oh I've seen pictures of that "chrome illusion" paint. At first I
liked it, then I though it would probably wear on you after a while.
Too shimmery, too brilliant, too something....

It did, in certain lights. That's why I nixed it.
Except you would. Black really shows dirt. I think the trick
would be multi-colored walls and rugs.

I find it easier if I have less to pick from. I can easily choose
between 10 off-whites immediately, but when you give me 200....

Yes, I occasionally see such cars, and I like the coloring a lot.
I once heard it was wise to get a little paint if it was an
esoteric color, not that I have heeded that advice.

Might have looked odd depending on what color your curtains and
upholstery are then. Good decision.

Out here in the land of 20,000+ new homes a year that we build in LV, men
in white suits, gloves and booties, head and face covered with a hood, go
in and spray the whole house with a paint gun....they almost look like space
men . Come to think of it, maybe the suit is white because it's mostly Swiss
Coffee color that we use.
Beth
No, it's because paints and other spray materials are becoming increasingly
toxic and the EPA is increasing the safety regulations about employees using
them, especially for extended periods. Full body suits and respirators are
becoming commonplace, as are specially ventilated paint booths with very
detailed disposal methods for the empty cans, coupled with fairly heavy
fines for violators. Read the label on any finishing material you use and
follow the ventilation instructions. Some are really toxic.

Enough to drive you nuts!!!!!!! Cultured Pearl sounds good but, there
again, there are several shades of pearls. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Pacer white doesn't give me a clue. But, I'm sure it will look great. Don't
let 'what if, maybe, does it look okay' ruin your vacation time.
