I bought me a brand new 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis LS yesterday. Shore
is purdy.
Vibrant White with chrome everwhere. Leather Power seats, Auto air
control, has a compass in the rear view mirror. It drives like a dream.
I am looking forward to going on vacation next week. It looks a lot
like my old car but has the bugs that I had with the 97 worked out. With
the rebate and my trade -in it cost less than $12,000.00.
Joe and I were sitting in the front porch swing Thursday afternoon just
a swinging and he looked at me and said Let's buy a new car. I said do
you really want to do that? hH said YES I said OK and we went in the
house called our Credit Union and got the Ok. Then we hit the internet
looking for the best deal, how much my car was worth and what had
changed in the car since 1997. Yesterday morning armed with all the info
we called the dealership where we bought the last car and told them what
we were looking for he told me he had a blue one. He called us back and
told us they had a Vibrant White and I told him we were on our way. The
dealership is about two hours from us we got there about 11:30 am and
drove the car off the lot about 5:30.

Congratulations, Dot-:)
Isn't it lovely to have a new car? But what on earth do you need a
compass for? Are you going on a safari??
Anyway, I saw you were off to a wedding next weekend, enjoy yourselves
and don't get lost en route - anyway with a compass, you won't!

Thanks Sue.
We forgot to look at the blue one when we parked behind the white one. I
had two blue cars and liked them but really fell in love with the white
one.

I could use a compass in my car. I have no sense of direction, which made
things fun when I was flying. ;-)

Congratulations. Enjoy it and what a perfect time for your trip. You and Joe
really did your homework. I just bought a new 1999 4 wheel drive Chevy
Blazer. I wasn't in the market for a new vehicle, but with moving to snow
country, I needed it. I really like my 97 T-Bird. Ilene likes the T-Bird too
and she is going to take it. I was pleasantly surprised to find how
comfortable the Blazers are now. It is actually more comfortable than the
T-Bird. I have an 89 Fox VW wagon too that Ilene's SIL wants. So everything
worked out well.

Enjoy your trip. Is it a vacation to see family? Arlin :-)

This is my 5th Mercury I started with a Monarch in 1978 went up to a
Marquis Brougham then got up to the Grand Marquis LS In between I had
a Chyrsler E. Class (A BIG Lemon) and a Chevy Luninia an OK car and was
all I could afford at the time.

Snap. I hate debt too. I was brought up that way I guess - never
bought anything we couldn't afford. Most people were that way then -
not so nowadays.
When I was in Canada in 1997 there was a popular song on the radio about
a Mercury. Know that one?

Dorothy, I had a gimballed marine compass mounted on the dashboard of my
ancient Crown Victoria station wagon for years. It was *invaluable*.
Makes mapreading and figuring out your location on back roads soooooo much
easier!

I can remember the singer Alan Jackson but forgot the name of the song.
I did a search the song is Mercury Blues.
Now if I only had the lyrics guess I will have to buy a cassette to play
in my car.

This is by the Steve Miller band: (of course, Jackson is sexier!)

Mercury Blues

By: K. C. Douglas

Had my money
I tell you what I'd do
I would go downtown
Buy a Mercury or two
Cause I'm crazy 'bout a Mercury
Cruise up and down this road
Up and down this road
I'm goin' to buy me a Mercury
And I'll cruise up and down this road
Up and down this road

You know that gal I love
I stole her from a friend
Fool got lucky stole her back again
Because she knowed he had a Mercury
Cruise up and down this road
Up and down this road
Well, she knowed he had a Mercury
And she cruise up and down this road

Hey now mama
Where'd you stay last night
Your hair's all down
Your clothes don't fit you right
Had my money
I tell you what I'd do
Go downtown and buy a Mercury or two
Cause I'm crazy 'bout a Mercury
And I'll cruise up and down this road
Up and down this road

I'm going to buy me a Mercury
And I'll cruise up and down this road
Up and down this road

I'm going to buy me a Mercury
Going to buy me a Mercury
Going to buy me a Mercury
Cruise, cruise up and down this road
Up and down this road

I'm going to buy me a Mercury
Buy me a Mercury
Going to buy me a Mercury
Cruise, cruise up and down this road
Up and down this road
