Bethlem, as Bedlam was spelled in past times, is the world's oldest
institution caring for people with mental disorders. It has been a part of
London since AD 1247 and many people, rich and poor, have played a part in
its history.
One of Bedlam's most famous patients was Richard Dadd. Dadd's masterpiece
of fairy painting was Oberon and Titania. This painting is now owned by Lord
Lloyd Webber.
Funny thing about Lord Lloyd Webber before he became a Peer he Andrew
Lloyd-Webber. When he was elevated to the peerage he lost his hyphen. It
is an ancient tradition in the House of Lords that there are no hyphenated
names.

>It is not often we get to observe the mentally ill. If you go how will we
>know what it is like in Bedlam
I would second that! Elaine has provided a great deal of amusement
over the past couple of weeks. Pity to lose it now! ;-)
