I saw them talking about this on TV. Glue movies are any movie you can't
stop watching whenever you happen to surf by it on TV.

Doesn't matter how many times you've seen it, doesn't matter if you already
own it .. just forget the dishes, skip the laundry and let the yard work go
to hell .. might as well pop some corn because you're stuck in your glue
movie until the credits roll.

I have several, Caddy Shack is one .. Like Water for Chocolate is another,
also A Fish Called Wanda. I got stuck in a Julia Roberts movie last
weekend -- and not a very good one -- Something to Talk About (with Dennis
Quaid, Kyra Sedgwick, Robert Duvall and Gena Rowlands). The best casting of
sisters (Julia and Kyra), that I've ever seen .. their mouths are even the
same. I don't know why I like this movie, I just do. Also love Bonnie
Raitt's song.

I guess I have three. Sgt York because one of my uncles was in it. No,
not Gary Cooper but Lasses White, the guy that rode the mule carrying
the mail up the mountain in the rain. The Greatest Show on Earth
because another of my uncles was in it. Merle Evans, the bandleader of
Ringling Brothers Circus for 50 years. And my all time favorite, Steel
Magnolias, because it was just a great movie with great stars.

I don't surf, but if I did, there are a few I'd have to watch again - The
Green Mile, Second Hand Lions, and The Bucket List come to mind. I know
there are others, but I can't think of them now. Oh, I'd probably watch the
original Jurassic Park.

This is funny because I was just thinking about Like Water for Chocolate

aren't movies but anytime Keeping Up Appearances or The Golden Girls are on
I usually stop whatever I am doing to watch it.

Forgot 'The Big Easy', 'Blazing Saddles'; Dink: 'The Quiet Man'; Ylem:
'Fargo'.

May I take this moment to unload my feelings of loathing for the
British actor, David Tennant (currently ruining a contemporary version
of Hamlet on PBS)?
I can't remember where I saw him first, but was appalled by him as
Blair in 'The Queen' and David Frost in 'Frost/Nixon'. It's unfair
because there's nothing whatsoever he can do about his weak jaw and
lack of chin, but WHY does he get so much work?

He might be a credible Hamlet, but I'll never know because all I have
to do is see his name or face and I turn away.

I definitely feel the same way about those movies as my "glue" movies,
but I would also include "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles", "National
Lampoon's Vacation", "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation", "Young
Frankenstein", "To Kill A Mocking Bird", "Abbott and Costello Meet
Frankenstein", "Field Of Dreams", just about any of the Marx Brothers'
movies, particularly, "Duck Soup" and "A Night At The Opera, Laurel
and Hardy's "The Music Box", "Sons Of The Desert" , and the first two
"Thin Man" movies.

I'm not much of a movie fan, nor do I watch TV all that much. But one
I would like to see again The Maltese Falcon, or Key Largo, I have
watched Casablanca more than once because folks told me I looked like
that gal. Never figured out exactly why. There was one that doesn't
make the reruns, called Orchestra Wives, made during WWII when there
weren't many men to cast. One called The Women had not a single man in
it.

I dont care for the current movies. - prefer the classics. I would
like to see an old Mae West movie, because I have never seen one all the
way through. . I used ot like Laurel and Hardy, and the Marx Bros. when
I was waiting to go into the hospital. blake

I don't much care for Asian action flicks .. they remind me of PIJoe, who
really loved them. Will be on the look-out for Big Eden .. I like French
Kiss and Snowy River well enough. I have the Kenneth Branagh Henry V CD ..
'bout time to watch it again. Yes, excellent speech.

Just last night I got stuck in a favorite movie - The Commitments - an Irish
film about poor working class youth forming a rock band, "bringing soul to
Dublin." You should hear them do Try a Little Tenderness, Mustang Sally, In
the Midnight Hour, etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDBlBT8BgNc

The lead singer with the blond ponytail is the 16 y/o son of a producer ..
16 years old. He just happened into the role when the other singer couldn't
make it. I can't believe this kid's Joe Cocker voice.

Anyway, this is about the 6th time I've seen it, still love it, great music,
great fun, great characters .. a sad peek into Dublin's slums .. you have to
have an ear for the accent .. which I do.

Sorry, but I don't share your disgust, I watched his Hamlet on PBS the other
night and thought he was quite good .. and after a while I even stopped
thinking of Dr. Who. I enjoyed his delivery .. especially his cutting puns
and dry quips. The play is so dark that we forget its comedy.

The audio sometimes irked me, especially when they were in hallways, but I
didn't mind the gun or modern dress as much as I thought I would.

So, you've never seen him in *anything* you liked?

The actor who played Frost in 'Frost/Nixon' and Blair in 'The Queen'
was Michael Sheen. David Tennant was a recent Dr. Who and also
Hamlet on PBS. Rex.

Possibly, prior to The Queen, but if so I must have felt he was
suitable for the role. Now I can't abide him in anything. Hated his
Dr. Who as well. Eccles was a hard act to follow.

Gasp! You're right. I'm mortified. Both chinless wonders. Hate them
both, but may watch Hamlet next time around...~;-)

Both good ones .. and now I've remembered another favorite - Waking Ned
Devine. An Irish film about what happens in a small village when one of
their elders wins the lottery, then dies of shock.

Excellent, and now I'm remembering Jimmy Cagney's great dance in Yankee
Doodle Dandy .. the song was It's a Grand Old Flag, and he danced up a wall
(and flipped over I think), every bit as well as O'Connor. I saw Cagney
interviewed about that tap-dancing jig .. he said he made it up as he went
along .. won an Academy Award too.

<G> You sound as though you would fit right in with our Godfather Marathon
Weekend -- at least once a year certain friends gather and watch all three.
Everybody brings Italian food and lots of wine .. it takes a week for us to
stop imitating gangsters.

I still loves me some chick flicks though .. like First Wives Club with
Goldie Hawn, Bette Middler and Diane Keaton.

Sophie's Choice is an excellent movie .. and I stuck it out because I was
fascinated with Meryl Streep's acting, had never seen her before. Though I
did cover my face during certain horrific scenes .. like the one where she
has to "choose" ..

And I'm having a Band of Brothers Marathon this week. Complete with 1940's
music and some of the meal. I have a lot of old magazines from the '40's and
love to cook them..
