LOL! I'm here Graham. I just put the turkey in and now I'm sitting
down to rest. You know we cover four time zones in America so while
some are just cooking their dinner, other's are finishing and heading
to their computers. <g>

What are we in Canada, chopped liver? <g>
I spent the morning at City Hall here in Toronto. All the ex-service clubs, Legions, Naval Club,
Army, Navy Clubs etc. were represented to get the city to waive the property taxes on the various
club facilities. As the older members are dying off, memberships are dropping and the taxes were a
very real burden. We got a 5 yr. exemption from property taxes :-). Perhaps all the local
politicians were intimidated by the gallery being filled with elderly ex-servicemen and women
complete with medals <g>.
Had a few rums at a local club to celebrate the victory, then home.

Home at last. Roger calls his wife's name. Silence. The house is still. He
walks into the kitchen and gets a beer from the fridge. Something troubles
him. A new fridge? Why on earth has she gotten a new fridge? He sips from
his can and wanders upstairs, leaving fridgy thoughts in the kitchen.
Roger decides against calling his wife on her mobile just yet, settling in
his mind for a shower and a lie down. He walks into the bedroom and
discovers his wife in bed with another man. Disbelieving and distraught ,
he takes the gun from the drawer in the side table and shoots both of them.
Then turns the gun on the cat. And fires.....
To Roger's horror the bullet missed Fluffy. In the split second that
these things take to happen he realised that he was going to die alongside
his treacherous wife and her lover Jaques.
In that split second, his eye followed the trail of the bullet. In
appallingly slow motion, he watched as it hit the buckle of a patent
leather shoe, that Glynis had worn to the firm's do only last week, and
stared mesmerised as the projectile flew straight towards his forehead,
growing ever larger as it approached.
The sickening crunch as lead shattered bone was the last thing he heard
and his lifeless body crashed to the floor.
An owl hooted it's approval, and then all was still.
Fluffy licked her lips and went downstairs for something to eat.

Any similarity between the characters in this story and real people, alive or
dead, is entirely coincidental and so it's no good suing me. You'll lose.
Besides I'm broke.

It is made with split peas.
Leak, celery (that thick root, maybe it's called different) celery-leaf, and pork on
the bone. My mother used ribs, so that's what I do. Many people say it should be so
thick, your spoon could stand up straight in it. I don't like it that way. It is
very filling, and is only nice if it is freezing cold outside.
