Just what I heard too. Even saw the plans of the new building which if
built according to the specifications will be the worlds tallest building.
Guess they haven't learned maybe never will.

What makes you think he is a Zionist?
The media says he's a German architect, who
won the prize in the competition to design a new
building. Just kidding, I know there is no
way that this honor would be given to a German.

I think it's fantastic! We are shaking our fist and saying we will
build again, bigger, taller, with meaning and beauty. The tallest
spire is going to be 1776 ft. tall to commemorate the signing of the
Declaration of Independence and the top 27 (?) floors are going to be
a garden, commemorating new life and growth. I think it's beautiful.

Kelly, there is going to be a sunken memorial space 30 ft. below
street level where most of the bodies were recovered. There will be
"Park of Heros" marking the pathways taken by rescue workers and a
"Wedge of Light" designed to be free of shadows every Sept 11 between
8"46 a.m. when the first plane hit, and 10:28 a.m. when the second
tower fell.

It's a complex with a museum and several cultural buildings.

That's good, I was wondering about the memorial.
I should think you have to be psychologically quite strong to work in such a
tower again though.
Or maybe, you get used to anything and don't think of it any longer.
The picture I saw of the plan looked quite nice.

Not all Jews are Zionists and not all Zionists are
Jews. It is pretty obvious that he is a Jew and
his design looks like typical Holocaust art, which
I've seen much of in Europe. The news reports,
that I heard, described him as a German architect,
which I interpreted to be a euphemism for Jewish
architect, since no non-Jewish German would
ever have been given an honor like this. I think we will
have to wait and see. If he puts a revolving
Holocaust museum on top of the building, we
can be pretty sure that he is a Zionist.

Here's a quote from a zionist organisation, Richard. It's not all of the
story but it should give you a lick at the flavour:-

"The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) disagrees with President Bush's
statement that a Palestinian Arab state can be a "peaceful and democratic"
state that will coexist with Israel. The Palestinian Arabs' ongoing
terrorist war against Israel and their culture of anti-Jewish hatred and
violence demonstrates that a Palestinian Arab state will inevitably be a
terrorist state..."

That from a press release you can probably find at http://www.zoa.org/

By contrast, many Jews both in Israel and outside do believe that peaceful
co-existence with an independent Palestinian state is both desirable and
possible.

A Zionist is a person who believes that the Jews
should have their own country, as opposed to
living all over the world in host countries.
The term now includes non-Jews who support this
idea.

Zion is the name of a hill in Jerusalem where the
palace of David stood. The word is now used to mean
the place of the Jewish national home. However,
the Mormons also referred to Utah as Zion where
they established their homeland based on religion.

The idea of setting up a Jewish State in what was
then called Palestine was started by Theordor Hertzl
in 1897. At that time, there wasn't much hope of
getting Palestine away from the Turks who held
it as part of the Ottoman Empire, so Hertzl was
willing to consider other places besides Palestine.
There were, and still are, many non-Jews who
supported Zionism, including Hitler who helped to
sneak Jews into Palestine when the British were
limiting immigration.

Originally, those who opposed the idea of the
Jews having a separate nation-within-a-nation or
a separate nation of their own and wanted the
Jews to assimilate into their host country were
called anti-Semites. Anti-Semite now has a broader
meaning.
