Choose your favorite color. I chose one with green and white this
season and I use it with practically everything that isn't too dark. I
also have a pink straw but usually use it when I'm wearing pink. I
think the yellow is a great neutral. As for shoes, I do a lot of tan
and neutral shades in the summer.

I almost never spend "real" money on trendy accessories. (Sometimes I'll
fall in love with something and have to break the rule, of course<G>.) If
you can find an inexpensive source for the bright bags you like, buy 2 or
3--and assume you will only use them for a couple of seasons. (I have
picked up several inexpensive Sac bags at Marshall's this spring, including
a dusty rose and a pure white one; all the bags have cost less than $25.)
For a gift, I bought a straw bag that had flowers, butterflies and such
appliqued on it; I also got a silk scarf with a similar motif and tied it
one the handles of the bag. I felt totally inspired!

well I did one in orange (Posh tote in orange brocade) and also a Botkier
bag in hot pink canvas. The orange actually goes with quite a bit and spices
up most everything since I tend to do neutrals and things like blue, black
and pink. Then the pink bag which is still virgin at this moment is going to
be activated soon and will be worn till it freaking well dies since I LOVE
pink. I have enough pink in the closet to carry it off year round. (this
handbag got sprayed for preservation about 6 x)
I blew the budget on these and I am glad because I am using them--and a lot.
I am finding bargains on the net particularly on ebay. I would check there
for hot pink, yellow (next color of the moment), green and orange. Pick one
that is your fave and do that.
Shoes are neutral or fun.... your choice. Just don't make it boring. I have
worn red shoes with an orange bag; pale blue shoes with same orange bag. as
long as the rest of you is pretty neutral, it's ok

IMHO, these bright bags are the perfect way to update a neutral
wardrobe without spending a fortune or buying a whole lot of bright
things that you may not wear for long. I'd use any bright bag (green,
orange, pink) with blacks, blues, tans, even muted pastels so long as
they are anchored by a neutral (eg, pastel tee with jeans). At the
moment, I think that getting matchy-matchy with a bright purse, shoes
and clothes would be overkill ... but who knows how my eye will adjust
this summer.

I bought 3 colorful bags this season - turquoise Francesco Biasia,
which I'm carrying now (my friend and the SA talked me into it) - it
brightens my day. Also got a pale pink Coach canvas that I haven't
carried yet - I think I have to spray it before using (will have to
email Stevie to see what she used on her pink bag). And...yesterday I
bought an adorable soft medium green clutch - leather with a leather
ruffle. I'm going to a wedding this Sunday and a Bat Mitzvah in May -
wearing a black linen dress with matching jacket (purchased in
Loehmans' for $79 - Anne Klein!) and I wanted a bag to break up the
severity of the black - although since it is linen, I thought it was
softer than it might be in another fabric...
I agree with the others...bright bag, neutral additional clothing and
accessories are safe...but why be safe?

I dropped into Kirtlands yesterday and was surprised to find they were carrying
these colorful summer bags - and inexpensive.

A Kirklands opened recently near my home. Will check these out since I will be
going to JoAnn Fabric store this weekend, which is just 3 stores away from
Kirklands. Thanks.

I'm delighted you took the color plunge in a handbag, Dana.

I bought two bags that incorporate a bunch of bright pastels. One is
Pucci-esque and the other is different patterns with the same colors. That
eliminated the WTW issue for me.
