I've been watching WE tv again, I know the show is kind of lame but I
watch "Full Frontal Fashion" anyway. This time it was "Top Ten Beauty
Secrets". Some of them are a little questionable if you ask me,
but...

10. Create a glow. Don't be "pasty". Use a cream or powder bronzer,
1 or two shades darker than your skin, with some shimmer to avoid
looking matte. This gives the appearance of health.

9. Scent. Have a signature scent for each season. The beauty
editor of Lucky (sorry, I forget her name) says to spray fragrance in
your hair to make yourself mysterious. Trish McEvoy says never spray
fragrance on your wrists and smear them together, you break up the
scene molecules that way, just let them air dry.

8. Baby Powder. A quick fix to de-grease hair: sprinkle with baby
powder and comb out. Best on blondes and those with fine hair.
Philip Bloch says baby powder is great for getting into leather pants
that are too tight.

7. Eyebrow arch. The eyebrow arch sets your expression and opens
your eyes. Don't overtweeze because the hair may never grow back.

6. Face powder. Powder is to perfect the complexion and mattify,
not to add color. To make lipcolor last, use lip balm, then lipstick,
then dust with powder, then reapply lipstick. For thick eyelashes,
put on a coat of mascara, then dust with powder, then apply a second
coat. Put on a heavy dusting of powder beneath the eyes before
application of shadow so you can dust any stray particles away easily.

5. Bright eyes. To take away bags, use Preparation H to "suck out
the water", says an Allure beauty editor. Trish says press
refrigerated spoons on the puffy areas, then apply eye cream. Charlie
Greene says to brighten eyes, use a white liner on the inner rim.
Curled eyelashes draw attention away from puffy areas. Trish says to
go with dark eyeshadow on the lid and bright on the browbone to draw
attention away from problems under the eyes.

4. The right haircut. A proper haircut offsets the cheekbones,
doesn't detract from the jawline and doesn't hide the eyes. Oval
faces look best in layered cuts. Round faces are best with shorter
hair, bangs and height at the crown. Square faces should have cuts
that accentuate from the cheekbones up. Heart shaped faces look best
in soft bobs that give width to the chin area.

3. Perfect lips. To make lips appear fuller, go for a shiny look.
Matte lips make the lips recede. Do not stray too far from the
natural lipline and use a color nearest your natural color when
choosing a liner. Yellow-based skins should go for gold, brown and
orange based colors. Red-based complexions should go for blue or
silver based colors.

2. Moisturizer. Look for glycerin as an ingredient. Moisturizer
holds water in the skin, not adds it. Moisturized skin holds makeup
better.

1. Drink water. It hydrates skin from the inside.

Trish McEvoy's tip was about "what should I carry in my bag?". Her
answer: lipstick, powder, blush, concealer.

Personally I think number 1 is rubbish. I have pale skin and I like
it that way, and I've never been told I'm "pasty" or
unhealthy-looking. Maybe my complexion isn't exactly the porcelain it
was when I was a young woman, but that doesn't mean it looks bad or
needs to be "bronzed". They never even mentioned women with naturally
dark skin (in any of the categories), it's not that I left those parts
out. :|

And I don't spray alcohol in my hair. (They also showed a woman
spraying cologne on her pantlegs - maybe she has stinky knees?)

what's an example of a haircut that does this? I don't understand this one.

__ this can be tricky if you aren't using the right bronzer.. it can make
you look dirty....
but the rec is for matte on the face, shimmer elsewhere and then a touch of
shimmer on just the bones of the face (hairline, bridge, cheekbones and
chin)

** now that's interesting. Not the hair part, that I knew. Don't do that if
you think you might get rained on though. the interesting was not rubbing
wrists together

** doesn't work on curly hair..... if you follow the curly girl guidelines,
you don't brush your hair!

** this does work and body lotion/oil does the reverse

** oh that's for sure. a good rec/instructions is found at Elke's newsletter
and also the Benefits browzing is a good product

for those who don't use lip balm (I don't), try this step with pencil first,
lipstick, powder , then reapply lipstick

For thick eyelashes,

** dorf lash primer obviates this step.

Put on a heavy dusting of powder beneath the eyes before
> application of shadow so you can dust any stray particles away easily.

** providing you are really good at dusting this off and don't have a lot of
under eye lines, this works.

** only the original formula does this.. witch hazel helps in a pinch

Trish says press

** just be prepared for the YEOW when you apply them

Charlie
> Greene says to brighten eyes, use a white liner on the inner rim.

** the eye enhancer from Dorf does this too

*** for MissLivvy,
that means do the interest or changes in structure at the cheekbones or
HIGHER on the square.. if you do it lower it makes the face look wider.

** this is weird because the orange will make skin look oranger. I would say
go neutral and if you want whiter looking teeth (super smile toothpaste and
go smile really work), try a blue based red or pin!

try looking for hyaluronic acid instead. Glycerin is a punky compared to
this ingredient

** Murad disputes this but I completely agree)

of eye cream to create your own concealer, tiny brow pencil because if your
brows fade you look tired (happens to me a lot since I use a light brow
pencil), skip the blush, use the lipstick instead, add the gloss)

some fabrics don't like scent ingredients and stain

The trick I've used is this:
(1) line and fill in with pencil
(2) apply lipstick
(3) separate a tissue into two layers; place one layer of tissue over lips and
press a fully loaded puff of loose powder onto lips through the tissue
(4) reapply lipstick
(5) repeat the power-applied-through-tissue step, then reapply lipstick once
again

I think that the idea is that the scent will float up and around you. This
way, a stronger perfume will be less offensive than if sprayed in the hair
or on your wrists.

I can't seem to get the image out of my mind now of Ross on "Friends" powdering
and lotioning up his legs to get his leather pants back on. Hilarious!

I don't agree. When I put lip balm on first, the lipstick slides right
off. And if I powder, it can leave yucky cracks.

Here's what I do:

1) Exfoliate the lips (I use my braun toothbrush for this)

2) Pat dry

3) Apply foundation (lightly)

4) Apply lipstick that's designed to be long-lasting; give it time to
set while continuing with other make-up.

5) As a last step, apply lip gloss.

I also find it helps to use a lip brush.

OMG! Me Too! When I read that comment all I could think of was Ross (with his
leather pants around his knees) saying "the powder and the lotion have made a
paste!"

Cheers!

Maybe rub your wrists together *before* putting on the fragrance? Warm up
the pulse point area?

Perfume in my hair? no way. With my luck it'd change my hair color and I'd
look like a spotted leopard.

I've read that one way to make upper lips look fuller you line the lips
until the Cupids bow in the middle.

I agree about the shiny look for a fuller look. Even a little gloss works.

I totally agree!
